Hollow Knight SIlksong releases September 4

I'm gone almost every week in September for work traveling. Which sucks the fattest set of dicks because I won't be able to finish:
MGS3 Delta (day one)
Shinobi (day one)
Silent Hill F (day one)
Cronos (day one)
Borderlands 4
Hollow Knight (day one)
Hell is us
Dying Light The Beast
Trails in the Sky
FF Tactics Remaster (day one)
Daemon X Machina
Alien rogue incursion

Like are you fucking serious!?
You never leave the fucking house, do you? lol

Is it still just a 3 team studio? Or since they fell into a mountain of cash from the OG, they surely added a few?
One dude for coding, one composer and some contractors for additional coding and testing.

Based on what I've read, they took 7 years just because they were having too much fun making the game. :goog_relieved:

Yeah, that is what I got out of it "we just kept adding stuff and I would say yes that's in and add that". Sounds like a passion project and they PLENTY of money to get them by without worries.

The wild thing is I have two kids, a wife, and a job that has me travel the country.

I just go to bed at 1AM/2AM now. Kids go to sleep at 8:30PM on the weekdays and I'll game to 1.

Weekends Friday-Sunday I spend with the wife in the evening. So I really game Monday to Thursday if I can. Trying to spend as much of my time focused on kids and her before I make time for me.

Luckily when I'm not traveling I work from home. This on less busy days lets me sneak in 3 hours if I'm lucky.

Didn't they have a deal with exclusivity for some time with Nintendo!?
It was a whole "mess". Apparently covid jacked up all of the contractual deals or something which is why they landed on xbox gamepass, but yes there was a window of time where there was some Nintendo money going back and forth if the stories are to be believed.

I liked Hollow Knight, definitely not the next Messiah as many go on. But I have to say, the Hollow Knight community has some of the strange fans I've ever seen. But I'm looking forward to eventually playing Silksong. Happy gaming HK fans.

I'm all in for the two I mentioned. I'll get Cronos and this some day though probably. I'm mainly waiting on this cause I never finished the first one and now I want to start it over on the Steam Deck.

I'm also getting the Trails in the Sky remake on the 19th which is another beefy one, those two will easily carry me in to October when there's even more coming out.

And we don't even have that Metroid Prime 4 release date yet either, Nintendo still says 2025. I'd be okay with December at this point!

Don't get me wrong, I loved Hollow Knight overall. But the game, and mostly the community, left such a bad taste in my mouth. There are just a ton of small but stupid design choices that make the game more of a chore to play. The example I always give, and just gave above, is how they make you waste a precious upgrade slot on putting your character's location on the map. That's just stupid and frustrating.

But I can forgive bad design choices, especially when the rest of the game is so good.

What I can't forgive is how every time I'd bring up those issues online in the last 8 years, a bunch of mindless HK stans would make backwards arguments about how those design choices were actually "genius" or some shit. The community has been dangerous to Hollow Knight, making the game seem like it's somehow perfect without any room for improvement.

Because it's so difficult to have a conversation about Hollow Knight's shortcomings and where it can be improved, I'm genuinely worried that the devs never fully received or considered a lot of the criticisms from the first game. I hope they're better than that, but it makes me concerned.

I suppose we'll know soon enough, though. If Silksong makes you spend a fucking upgrade slot just to see your position on the map, I'll know that they didn't learn anything.

I'm going through this with CrossCode right now. There's some sweet spot, some line, that both games step over for my personal tastes. Both games feel the same in a way where when I discover some new sprawling area with ten side quests again, I groan and feel exhausted instead of thrilled. I can't tell you why even because the first Dark Souls is probably my favorite game ever and I never felt that way.

Some games just feel like too much of a good thing to me. Like going to a buffet with amazing food and you keep shoving shit down your gullet after you're full because well, it's there.

But again, like Mr Kacho ova hea, just my two cents. I just read they sold 15mil and good as fuck on them, not every game has to be for me. I'm still curious about Silksong and do kind of wanna try it at this point.

Personally I love it, specially if it's optional content and it's good.
My problem with many long games is that I often feel like they run out of new unique content way before the experience is over. Like you are 30 hours into the game and it has seemingly run out of new enemies and bosses to throw at you, but for some reason it keeps going for another 20 hours. With Hollow Knight I felt like I was contantly encountering fun new content all the way through the game.

My one big criticism of the original Hollow Knight is that I felt the backtracking got a bit annoying during the second half as the map gets bigger and bigger. It should have had at least twice as many fast travel locations so going back to an earlier location just to check something out didn't take 5 minutes. That's the one thing I hope they improved in Silksong.

If you're east coast, we basically have the same situation and schedule. Except I work from home 4/5 days a week. Let alone travel.
You might be the person I should be playing these mandatory co-op games with. It Takes Two, A Way Out, Split Fiction, etc. ha!

Excellent, that means we're only two weeks away from people shutting the fuck up about this

What's so special about it?
The first game was unexpectedly good, starting slow and slowly opening up to reveal a gigantic haunting world. It was also quite taught, rewarding skillful play and exploration, and the patched content gave it a lot of extra bosses, areas, content and even a couple of new (though very hard to get) endings.
It was a metroidvania that felt polished and complete, with many atmospheric surprises one would expect from a Dark Souls game.

This (Silksong) was originally intended to be the first and only paid dlc for the first game about one of it's characters, though it blew up in scope and became a full blown sequel delayed multiple times, so it was teased on the back of peoples minds since the first game's launch.

If you played the first game, you would know the hype.

Dude, I'm not seeing any player marker on the map in this section of the trailer. Not saying it's not there, but pleeeaaasseee Team Cherry… don't pull that shit again.

A lot of bitching about using one point of an upgrade slot on marking your spot on the map, holy shit. You just set it and move on. Or don't and enjoy exploration? Then if you need the extra one point to equip something for a tough boss or whatever you can make that call later. It's hardly a make or break thing.

Dacvak Dacvak map has enough landmarks and indicators already dude, you don't need to a map marker and if you really do, just spend 1 point on it.

One of the best parts of the game is getting lost and enjoying the exploration. I'm glad that it seems they haven't ruined that by making it dumber.

Why the hell does everything have to come out in September? It's way too stacked atm.
You don't need to buy everything the day they release lol.

But to answer your question. Its because publishers want everything out before thanksgiving because Christmas shopping starts right after that.

I think October is actually more stacked, crazy thing is besides Call of Duty, November is empty.

I will wait until they release all updates, DLC and maybe even the Voidhornet Edition or whatever they decide to name the ultimate edition for this game.

I think playing OG HK when it released really hurt my view of that game and how incredibly unfinished the base game felt, I'm not going to make the same mistake this time.

I desperately wanted a more compact map, instead if the long map and slow traversal from the first, but it looks very similar.

I like Hollow Knight, but man, it was slow. Hopefully they added some new gameplay that switches up the platforming and combat.

I didn't have an issue with the map or the lack of a player marker, although having to use a slot to "fix" that was annoying. My main issue was putting some bosses behind things like lifts but not having them reset on death, so each time you failed while learning it you spent half the time just waiting for the opportunity to face them again.

That and the long and empty paths made it seem more like gameplay padding to me than the amazing world others found.

I don't know either. I found the first Hollow Knight to be ok but nothing more. I don't get the hype. It's certainly far away from being the Symphony of the Night killer many Hollow Knight fans say it is. Or I am too retarded to "get it".

Edit: I do wish everyone who is excited for this a lot of fun with it, though! You've all certainly waited for quite some time for this.

Are you saying it's a Simon's Quest? I'll buy it if it's a Simon's Quest.
Sounds like it lol, at least it's grabbing some elements from it.

Have you played The Battle of Olympus and Faxanadu? More Zelda 2 than Simon's Quest, but they might scratch the itch.

I have not. The last Simon's Quest game I played and enjoyed was Bloodstained: Classic 2 Dominique's Curse.

The first one looks similar to Pit from Kid Icarus ironically.

Damn I still need to check the retro-lookint Bloodstained games. They sure look fun.

Infernac was quite decent as well! Worth a try at least.

Lmao. You made me check and yep, they must be cousins or something. :goog_relieved:

Curse of the moon 1&2 are fucking amazing. 9/10 games for me.

Play them. Each one will take you only a couple hours. The second IMO is better.

Do notethey have "true endings" to obtain so that could take you a little longer to get.

Good news though I think the hype it build over the years will disappoint a lot of folks. Temper your expectations, all I see from the trailer is simply just more of the same, nothing new or super great.

While I think HK is overrated as hell and the Ori games are infinitely better I'm still excited for this one and I'm glad the waiting is almost over. Their lack of comunication has been dire for fans.
