Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores - How To Prepare

There was a poll just a few weeks ago where over half of the people said this DLC was going to be a technical marvel and a generation defining moment. There are big expectations for this DLC.

I wouldn't take the results of that poll seriously. There are only two options, both of them extreme, with no middle ground. Either it's "generation-defining" or useless. Very "all or nothing," with no reasonable middle ground (e.g., "Technical improvements over HFW, but nothing mind-blowing"). The poll forces people to choose between one of two extreme options. If it had a range of options rather than just two extreme options, you'd get very different results.

I don't know how one can take a poll like that as serious, and attempt to use it as to why you are the way that you are :pie_roffles:

It's best to pay him no mind on this one. Of course the actual poll choices weren't intended to be taken so seriously, but rather to spark dialogue.

I would like to push back on the bolded; new streaming tech is confirmed to be implemented in the DLC:

The cityscape ruins of LA and its surroundings are highly detailed and require a lot of processing power as well as fast streaming technology to run properly; especially when the player is flying over the lands and can see a lot at once.

This was my #1 ask in my poll thread. HFW pop-in is egregious, especially during flight traversal. Now they're telling us we can fly faster with new streaming tech? If you don't see that as potentially mind blowing especially for one of the most dense, detailed open world games ever made, I don't know what is. Seamless/invisible LOD transition for such a dense open world is equally as stunning as RTGI in my opinion. I think a lot of folks will be eating crow in a few weeks and I'll be there to serve it to them after all the flack I received in my thread.

Ok. I was just pointing out that the poll options constrain choice so much that any results are going to be way off, and so it doesn't make sense to claim there is lots of hype for the DLC -- much less that over half the respondents actually expect a "generation-defining experience."

As for your second point, I honestly don't see being able to fly faster as "mind-blowing." It's a nice improvement, yes, but it doesn't knock my socks off. Granted, I'm not all that into the technical side of gaming. I'll often wander into what they used to call "graphics whore" threads and feel puzzled as to why people go on and on about what I consider technical minutae. But to each his own!

Should I wait for the DLC to come out before I start the main game?

I remember in Zero Dawn the DLC had some neat quality of life improvements for the main game. Is this the case here as well?
My guess is yes, though they should actually patch the game sooner so people can do what this video suggests and jump back in to play to reacclimate yourself.

@SlimySnake is one of my favorite posters. This is literally all you need to do to be a great poster.
1. Have interesting opinions.
2. Be honest about it
3. Argue the topic and not insult others

Thats it. He blows past 70% of the posters here who either focus only on insults or dont actually have detailed or interesting opinions about games. Who cares if you agree with every opinion he has? I dont. Talk to him about it. He responds just fine.
