Horizon Forbidden West: outsmart your enemies

I'm mad (figuratively speaking) at that flashy melee combat. Should have went out of their ways to make more dynamic ranged with way trickier enemies instead, but oh well guess they wanted to please the wannabee ninjas asking for it to be better
Read the article. They have made the enemies smarter. The OP melee stuff will likely only be for people who make melee builds.

I collect all new hfw gameplay videos in one video and it's actually 2,4 minutes of gameplay , and I really don't know why Sony don't release any new full length gameplay video until now and the game Will released in next two months

There is a 13 min video of gameplay, how can yours be only 2.4 minutes?

The game looks amazing but the small robots are too weak. two arrows to kill a robot. Easy stealth kills... i dont know..

Demo\showing are usually played on easy for the gameplay flow, you are not gonna beat the raptors with 2 arrows on max difficulty and probably not even on normal.

Ramp up the difficulty then, trailers always play the game on easy

I remember people saying this about the demons souls gameplay reveal in september lol

It's like the criticism of, "omg why is the protagonist talking so much!" Like, people are just now seeing their first video game trailer

If you are a bit skilled with tps and action rpg play the game on ultra hard if you don't wanna stomp enemies after 10 hours.

They are gonna fuck you up in the beginning but the sense of progression is gonna be worthy.
Thanks for the advice. Can the difficulty be changed on the fly?

Sure.

For example, the sun trials where you need to get gold in all of them to unlock the best weapons in the vanilla game are basically impossible on something more than normal\hard so i highly advise to tone down the difficulty for that occasion, unless you wanna punch your tv.

Ultra hard is basically soulsborne difficulty mode but you still have some stupidly OP weapons anyway.

Yeah, maybe i should try the first game on ultra hard and see how it felts. This is what i found on the HZD game wiki:

Detailed Comparison

The Ultra Hard difficulty also introduces the following changes:

  • Enemy health bars are disabled.
  • Multiple enemies can attack simultaneously.
  • Enemy perception range (both visual and auditory) is greatly increased.
  • Machines and humans are harder to knock down using the heavy spear attack.
  • Vendor prices are up to five times higher.
  • Vendors no longer offer free sample boxes.
  • The Machine resources merchant no longer sells hearts. In addition, they only sell 4 types of lenses.
  • The Thunderjaw's Disc Launchers are no longer especially vulnerable to Tearblast Arrows.
  • Using Lure Call while enemies are actively searching for Aloy will immediately reveal her location to them, even if she is hiding in tall grass.
  • Machines that were more inclined to flee will now prefer to fight. This applies to Striders, Broadheads, Chargers, Grazers, and Lancehorns.
  • Humans will attack more frequently.

Some of those are actually kinda fun, but the restrictions on crafting and healing, meh. I like TLOU2's difficulty system. I can increase enemy A.I aggressiveness and awareness to max without losing half my health and dying in one hit. I dont want to have a miserable experience playing this game, just want a challenge.

I hope they use the DualSense fully, like Astrobot i want to feel the sand on the beach and the water. That game blew me away how much impact the controller had on the gameplay and the feedback you get.

i'm fine with those numbers and extra changes, remains to be seen in still fun. Im gonna start a ng+ today to try it out.

Ultra hard is honestly not that difficult if you got the op armor

However it gets really intense in Frozen Wilds

Healing has no limits that i remember and crafting being harder make you play better because you can't just spam stuff and can't trap dinobot on the ground all the time with the ropecaster (a noob op weapon let's be real)

But yeah, tlou2 making custom difficulty modes where you can change single aspects is the best.

Tomb raider series does something similar.

Ultra hard is not miserable, it's the only way to play the game if you wanna some challenge after 10-15 hours, also the only mode that force you to play with the rpg part of the game that many people snob.

Let me put it this way, horizon has a lot of OP\fun weapons, ultra hard is the only mode where you don't feel bad for using them because enemies are absolute killers and you are gonna die a fuckload of times anyway.

And even ultra hard eventually become a cakewalk so we are not talking doom eternal max difficulty mode here...

The tech armour is kinda useless on ultra hard, one hit and they completely fuck your shield, another 1-2 hit and you are dead.

I used the other armours for melee damage\ranged damage\elemental damage with a lot of purple coils to improve them, they are all slightly better than the tech one tbh.

The tech one looks cool tho.

Looks brilliant! But seems like there pushing more into hyper-realistic approach with those exaggerated moves and agility. The first game had much more weight, but this seems to have more fun factor as it seems.

Well, not every game has to be a walkie-talkie, walking simulator to make me happy so I welcome the change.
Yeah, I like that they've added some flash to Alloy's moveset, I bet the later valor surges look awesome

Yes that's vastly more preferable.

Aggressive and smart A.I. is way better than insta-deaths.

The canned takedown animation thing is kinda played out and makes games feel super casual.
The animations look very nice, but anything that takes control away from players and leaves you watching a 2-3 second cinematic during every enemy encounter is just not my cup of tea. They are essentially QTE's without the button prompts.

Yeah but the game is not that difficult if they have to shoot you 5 times to kill you.

I just adjusted the resources to very hard instead of grounded but i left everything else to grounded.

I just love too much how meaty the gunplay is to only rely on melee.

Let's be honest, the ia is still highly exploitable, name calling and telling you were they are searching is immersive but not smart per se.

We are still far from capable, realistic IA.

I mean you're not supposed to get hit to begin with so. The shield is a life saver in Frozen Wilds for a bunch of good reasons

Yeah but saying that the game is not that hard BECAUSE of the tech armour is not really true since it save you from one single hit, and in situations with multiple super aggressive dinobots, one hit is not that much of a protection...

Like i said, the other armours with a lot of coils in them can save you from 2 hits, not much, but still better.

That's why i said that ultra hard force you to play with the rpg part, even for the weapons, having a specialized tear blaster bow, a specialized damage bow, a specialized ice weapons etc. is very helpful.

I even used the machine gun wannabe with a lot of fast handling\damage coils and it was shredding mofos, and that's a weapons that nobody use really.

It was fun to play with the rpg part and that's why i always advice to play horizon on ultra hard, same for gow 2018, the rpg part is pretty important on the latest 2 difficulty modes.

In general, the highest level of challenge make combat\rpg machanics shine because you can't just button spam your way to victory and you have to think about actual builds.

that's why i buy a fucking action RPG to begin with :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Yes A.I. has a long way to go, and I don't expect major improvements this gen either.

However I hate games which take an inordinate amount of life off you. I was thinking more of the first Horizon game with my comment, and from what I remember even hard mode could be quite cheap in that regard, the only change being the amount of damage taken.
