Horizon: Zero Dawn | PS4 Exclusive | Screenshots

Since its an RPG, does this mean the main character can look how you want? Not a fan of her, but like the world'ish.

I don't think so

Horizon Zero Dawn is set in a lush, beautiful open world where nature has reclaimed the ruins of a forgotten civilization. It is a world where mankind is not the dominant species, and highly advanced machines sit at the top of the food chain. You play as Aloy, a young outcast from a tribal society, who has learned to hunt the machines. Intent on unraveling the many mysteries that surround her, Aloy embarks on a quest that will lead her to discover her own destiny.

Along the way, Aloy will face off against an entire menagerie of machines – some traveling in herds, others roaming in solitude, all of them presenting a formidable danger. You will need to learn their behaviors, attack patterns and weak points in order to survive. You must use the beautiful environments to your advantage, and employ stealth, agility, and cunning to approach your prey unseen.

They make sure to refer to her gender, so everything points to her being a set character. If that's from a create a character then it would mean that Guerrilla had also created a character creator that's on the level of Black Desert. Probably even higher given how good her hair looks. You don't get create a characters that look that good.

really love the overall concept of this game. I really like the idea of a post apocalyptic where the machines take over. I know i saw someone mentioning the machines taking on the persona of the most successful species on earth it makes sense. I cant wait to see the world they build. Definitely will have the GG polish, Lets see if they nail the story.

As a Xbone owner pondering a future PS4 purchase, I was disappointed by last years exclusive output from Sony and it didn't push me over the edge. Equally, the kickstarter shenanigans and reliance on timed exclusivity for third party content at this E3 left me cold (not a big fan of MS doing it with TR either).

This though. This game. Cripes. This could be the one.

Uncharted 4 looks great (hopefully runs better than the demo) but this one was designed with me in mind. I loved everything they showed of it.

Game of the show for me I think. Looks like it could be something really special. I like Guerrilla Games (I don't think Killzone utilized its potential) so I'm glad they are getting a shot to make something different and more unique.

pretty glad to hear she's the main focus of the game. as much as i like create-a-character, she seems to well designed to throw away.

Game of the show for me. Love to see a female protagonist that isn't half naked or dependent on males for her survival. Not the first game to do this, but I'm saying I appreciate that another one is coming. Also, aside from that, the game looks beautiful, interesting, and fun.

Does this have a date?

I mean visually it's incredible and the setting/story just looks amazing. Gameplay seems like a cool mix of action and stealth too.

Yeah, they have always shown flashes of brilliance in their games. It was only a matter of time, as they have added even more talent to what they already had.

I'm not going to lie, this was probably the highlight of Sony's show for me. I felt disappointed when I realized Shenmue was a Kickstarter, I never cared for FFVII (Like, at all), and although it was great seeing The Last Guardian again, I had my reasons for expecting it, and we didn't see too much outside of a short puzzle.

This game, on the other hand, was completely fresh! I always loved the concept of a world growing back over itself after an apocalypse, and the packs of robot animals were pretty rad. The only downside was how much the heroine just kept repeating the obvious, but I'm assuming that it was just for the trailer, to give you an idea of what she's like/what she's doing. I can't wait to see what they do with this game!

This is the first female protagonist in a AAA IP that has grabbed my attention in a very long time and that's sad to say. Well done Guerilla, I may come off as one of your critics but you completely nailed the IP from setting, scale, atmosphere, sound, gameplay and character design.

Despite all of the nuclear bombs dropped during the Sony presser this is the game I am most interested in.

Same here. We've seen Last Guardian, FF7, Shenmue, and Uncharted before so to see GG apply their technical wizardry into an open world RPG that looks near CG quality has me pumped. My poor x99 gaming PC is now relegated to Adobe Creative Suite and cat pictures on Imgur... that is until HL3 comes out!

edit: Remember, folks. This isn't the first time Sony has had a red haired female protagonist front and center. Don't forget Nariko from Heavenly Sword.

Nariko was a terrible character from a terrible 3rd party studio. Dumb, try hard motivation story, generic personality and dressed for a bachelor party not battle. Aloy all the way!

Marketing, why the "Zero Dawn" subtitle, though. It feels so arbitrary.

What's wrong with just "Horizon"?

My guess is that such a common word as the game's name would contribute to future confusions etc. with other properties with the word "horizon" in their titles.

Really impressed how much the actual game turned out looking like the concept art.
That's a wonderful thing, as the concept art is fantastic.

Can't wait to see more.

This looks so damn good. I hope there's a man vs machine thing going in the end and that the dinobots are not made by other tribes. That said, this is going to be a long and grueling wait :(

This game looks sick!!!

Really looking forward to hearing more about the universe - really curios to see how the robo dinosaurs came about!

I fully expected this to be a FPS game like Turok from all the leaked shots and the fact that GG has made Killzone all this time. I was shocked (In the best possible way) by what I saw. It look beautiful, the gameplay looks really fun and third person (I like seeing the character on screen).
I can't wait to play it, for sure the game from the Sony show that blew me away the most.

I always love the art direction in Guerrilla Games, this one is no different. The demo was impressive. Aside from the hunting game play, which does look fun, wondering how exploring the world will work. If it's a linear story, open world with mission markers, I didn't really get much information out of that presentation. Still, it looks pretty fun and has potential.

Ah, doh, thanks for the info.

You could get games with some preset faces, oh an archetype face that you just modify. Can see Mass Effects one being that impressive, we shall see. :)

Well, you have no choice in Witcher either. I personally prefer to play as Aloy than as Geralt though.

Yeah, not a fan of Witcher either although I haven't played 3 yet. haha Like making my own people in RPG's and customize their style, its half the fun. Especially didn't like the two sword system they 'forced' on you. Assume the bow is going to be 'the' weapon in this game as well.

Will wait to see more then, still curious on 'how' this world works exactly.

So, is there any hint at why the world is littered with robot dinosaurs acting like wild animals? A failed themepark (robot Jurassic Park) or something? lol.

And why humans would want to hunt them? (what resources do they get?).

Whyyyyy??? I want to understand this madness.

(game looks amazing)

If it's an AI that created them, maybe it was looking for the best/most efficient form, researched dinosaurs and said, "Hmm, these things thrived for over 100 million years. They must've been doing something right...

And they look badass!"

Me neither. ;) Bought the game at launch, but haven't had time to start it yet. Given the choice, I always play as a female protagonist.

.

Customizable looks has nothing to do with a game being an RPG. As a matter of fact, so far very few games have done a great job with create your own character (not in looks) but narrative.
