The game is looking good so far, the protag looks like she needs a bit more muscle mass on her arms. Someone that is consistently using a bow on the regular doesn't have twig arms.

It's a compound bow. So most of the strength you need is in the draw (where an experienced hunter would be using a movement encompassing the muscles of the shoulders, back, and arms in combination for speed and fatigue reduction) and at full draw, the nature of the cams on the bow affords a "let-off" up to around 75% of the draw weight of the bow, so it doesn't take nearly as much arm strength to hold at full draw while aiming, ect.

And why humans would want to hunt them? (what resources do they get?).

She says something like 'Ok, they're filled up' before taking the first adult one out -- and it looked like all she did was knock one of the green canisters off its back.

So my guess is that the dinos can convert vegetation into fuel quickly and efficiently, and the humans use the fuel.

I didn't rewatch it or anything, though... that was just my thoughts during the conference.

As for 'why dinos'... who knows? Clearly either humans or an AI thought it was a good idea... perhaps a Jurassic Park style resort gone wrong [unlikely] or an AI settled on dinos for some reason [perhaps it decided humans were a plague and wanted to return the planet to a pre-human ecosystem]. We'll find out.

hope the game has seasons and not just weather changes. i'd like to see the seasons bring out different animal mechs.

makes me think they have some king of organics in their interior, because she seems so apologetic for killing them. maybe grateful for what they provide, like native americans have known to do. or that her society has reached a point where AI is worth feeling emotion for.

Not all seemed like dinosaurs though. some of them had antlers, like reindeer. or moose.

also, the one at the end looked more like a giant eagle/falcon than a pterodactyl.

Wait, are those giraffe things rocking AWACs? Like they run radar/advance warning for the grazer-bots?

Such brilliant visual design.

Customizable looks has nothing to do with a game being an RPG. As a matter of fact, so far very few games have done a great job with create your own character (not in looks) but narrative.

i don't mind her.

i think what i'm looking at is the gameplay mechanics. how deep the crafting system and all that will be. i don't want them to just have in the game and i don't use it. need it to be built in but not forced i guess.

and loot. hopefully it's fun stuff. lol and any word on a day/night cycle? i guess they will be?

You gotta remember this is the nature she knows, maybe she doesn't know they are machines.

"After we finished Killzone 3 we started working on preproduction and speak with everyone in the studio," said Hermen Hulst, managing director of the team. "We got 40 to 50 contexts and ideas for games, and Horizon emerged from one of them but at the same time, collecting ideas from all others."

"Here you are Aloy, the main protagonist and part of a primitive tribe, which obviously disadvantaged party against these mechanical creatures and you have to prepare and be smart before, during and after the fighting," he said. "" There stealth, no mechanical traps and there are a lot of agility, you have to put everything on your part to take down these monstrous machines. "

"We will talk later about RPG elements, you have seen today that there is a system of plunder and resources you can collect these machines to create new ammunition, arsenal and stuff," he continued.

"The setting of the game is something post-post-apocalyptic, has been a disaster for thousands of years and here's the twist, the human being is no longer the dominant race. They are the machines that reign" he said. "In the role of Aloy you not understand why you're there and what are these machines, what they do or how to relate to them, so we'll take a trip to discover all these secrets."

She probably doesn't have an internalized concept that machine AI is inferior to biological AI, because she was not part of the world that was making the robots. She sees a mechanical animal that seems about as smart as a biological animal, and treats it with the same kind of respect. I thought that was pretty cool actually.

My father used to call non-compound bows 'Shakespeare bows'. I don't know if it's a regional thing (I'm from the U.P. Of Michigan/Northern Wisconsin). But yeah...anyone who's tried to hunt deer with a bow used a compound unless you're just trying to show what a bad-ass you are. My shoulders ache just thinking about holding aim with a non-compound bow.

The idea for this game is just so absurd and ludacrous, yet seeing it in action it's amazing. Those robot dinoursaurs are jaw drapping.

I'm not normally one for online co-op but I really hope this game has it. Hunting a robo t-rex online with other cavemen would make this GOTY material.

I'm currently playing through it and it definitely has noticeable aliasing.

It's good for a console game, but not stellar.

I'm also playing on a monitor, so it'll be more noticeable to me than for others playing on a TV in their living room.

You may have a point, but it is no jagfest. In fact, it is quite impressive in areas with lots of angular pipes and architecture for a launch game.

I play on an IPS monitor as well, and even the scree-grabs show little aliasing to be considered (jagfest).

Easily the most gorgeous art direction I've ever seen in a game...

Sentient AI are basically living things at that point

I seriously was not expecting this level of fidelity in an open world title this gen.

Agreed with these sentiments. The artwork is just astounding with a fantastic blend of nature and machine. Some of the best I seen in a long time in gaming.

The execution is much better than I envisioned.

Can't wait to go hunting/exploring in an abandoned futuristic city! This game has so much potential, after playing the witcher 3 i can't wait for an action rpg with this kind of setting.

Doesn't anyone else find that hunting giant metal robots with a bow and arrow......a bit stupid?

as opposed to your bare hands? how do you know what resources the world in question has? she picks up the gun that fell off the dinobot at one point I think, doesn't mean she could keep it going...
