Yeh I really enjoyed this one, and the lead actress was superb. By all accounts this sort of movies should just be average but it's done very well.

Another movie I can't rate high enough (it's more thriller I guess?) Is Strange Darling. Very very good.

Another worth checking out is Cuckoo, very weird but enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed cuckoo. I forget who recommended it. It might've been someone who I had to block becaue they like their steaks well done. It's a shame really but some things are non negotiable. I've been meaning to watch Strange Darling.

Watched Smile2 at the weekend, damn that's a great wee series, really ramped up the tension with an absolutely stellar opening, loads of great jumps and even though I called the ending right at the start, it was still great, can't wait to see where he goes with Part3

I have the add the entity/demon/whatever is an absolute cunt, what it does to the victims is proper nitemare material, definitely one of the worst bastards out there

I just watched Smile and enjoyed it. Gonna check out the sequel for sure.

Just finished watching it, still not entirely sure how much was real and how much was imaginary.

Contains spoilers for Smile 2 Sorry chaps no idea how to hide elements of this post

Yeah that's why the demon is such a bastard, it really fucks with the victims head, I mean the whole section with the brother who was trying to save her, was he real up until he left the freezer room or was he completely made up, either way it sticking her from that fucked up situation straight to the main stage of her concert was just mean lol and then her committing suicide in front of the entire audience does that mean it splits and infects everyone or can it now hide in anyone of those people, I figure the latter as it looks like people where able to work out where it's at and we're coming after it due to it just jumping from person to person whereas now it'll be impossible to track

From what I've read it infected everyone that saw it, no idea whether it's just the live audience or if it includes any televised viewers. Either way, shit's about to get really fucked up.

Just got done with cuckoo. I'm not sold, the film itself isn't bad but I just couldn't get past Hunter's bloke face and fake effeminate voice. It would likely have been much better with a different lead, someone like Kiernan Shipka or Emma Myers.

They cast a trans actor in a movie called "Cuckoo"? Works on a whole lotta levels :P

Werewolves, with Frank Grillo. Of all of the movies I've watched, this is one of them, unfortunately. You know there are some movies that you wish you could unwatch so you can experience them again? Movies like sixth sense, or usual suspects, that kind of thing? Well, I wish I could unwatch this and leave myself a note telling me not to bother and to put my nuts in a clothes mangle instead as it would be less painful.

That flick was so burdened down with 'mythology' and needless characters, like the neighbor. It MUST have been a series pitch that was converted to a movie. One of the dumbest films I've seen in recent memory, for sure.

One bit that did make me chuckle though was lou diamond philips pronouncing hyperbole as hyperbollay.

Who was trans? I didn't even notice. I really enjoyed the movie one of my favorites from last year

I did not know they were trans. In the film they play a girl.
Obviously I can't speak for anyone else but to me hunter just looks like a feminine man with boobs.

On another note, something I've noticed as I've been looking for these films to watch is that there's a huge disparity in what I class as horror and what other people do. For instance Tucker and Dale, aliens, Constantine, deep blue sea, van helsing, Beetlejuice, and the babysitter films are all classed as horror. The net for horror seems to cast wider than it used to.

I agree the net is wider now

I saw this one on tv 40 years ago. Made-for-TV movies sort of disappeared after the 90s, and made-for-tv horror movies were the rarest of them all. I very much liked this, though. I believe it's available on DVD (and probably a really shitty rip on youtube).

Pentagram. 4 thieves get stuck inside a pentagram and if they leave they get taken by a demon. Low budget, poor acting, not much going for it really. The bones of the story could work in more skilled hands but as it is I would not recommend it.

Horror has always been a cross-genre category. Something like FEAST, for example, is a black comedy, an action/survival film, a lampooning of typical action/horror films, but also clearly loaded with horror elements. Aliens, Tremors, lots of stuff like that. I think the proliferation of relatively tame pg-13 type 'horror' contributes to this, as the kind of classic horror we all grew up with was DEFINITELY not stuff kids should be watching.

If you want something to terrify kids you need to get them watching watership down, you don't need any of the classic horror movies from back in the day. My sister has warned her kids that if I'm babysitting then they're not to watch any film I put on with rabbits in it. 😔

heh heh, I did the double bill of the CG Netflix version with the classic 2d animated version for my kids a few years back.

Still holds up!

OG Watership paired with Secret of Nimh, your kids will NEVER hurt a small animal again!

Classic horror like Rosemary's baby and The Exorcist were before my time. My time was shitty slashers for the most part.

I thought Hunter was good in it personally, no issues with the casting for me.

Also someone mentioned Immaculate....which coincidentally is basically almost identical to The Omen remake in many respects; thought that was pretty terrible to be honest. Just not really interesting.

I did enjoy Heretic, Hugh Grant and Sophie Thatcher were great in it. Kind of felt like it might go in a few directions regarding the story but was happy with the conclusion. Definitely worth a watch.

My wife and I just finished Talk to Me and we thought it was good. Worth a watch for those of you who haven't watched it yet.

Haven't seen Heretic yet. I prefered Hereditary to Talk To Me. Have you seen Bring Her Back yet?
Not yet, but I will. Bear in mind that while I really enjoyed heretic, I wouldn't class it as a horror, but as I said earlier in the thread, there are many films now that are classed as horror that I wouldn't put in that category.

So has anyone seen the Until Dawn movie? Is it really that bad (even if you ignore the fact it's not the based on the story from the game)?

caught the early screening of 28 years later. Holy shit you guys are in for a treat if you like zombie horrors with a good story.
Man I'm reading polar opposite opinions on this one. It's down to 66% on rotten tomatoes. Waiting for streaming on this one.

Makes me think I'll like it. Worst thing a movie sequel can do in my eyes is play it safe.

Still waiting for streaming though.
I watched a review and the guy had some valid concerns about the plot especially the kid and his actions. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say anything else.
