Is it related to GoT? That show was so boring. Couldn't get through the first episode.

The series will never be finished. GRRM will be a cold corpse in the ground before the last book is written.

Best to just accept it and move on.
The book and TV show series is dead to me now. I definitely won't be watching this.

Because they have changed the race of a character that has to be white literally because of plot reasons.

If they don't care about the plot and put their political agenda before it, then that tells you everything you need to know about them.
 
No thx HBO, you killed my interest with the last couple of seasons of GOT.

I guess once it's done and all has been released, if people say it's good I'll give it a chance.

House Velaryon was not in the TV show was it? They aren't even in the core series of books from what I'm reading.

They're not really mentioned in the core books, but are mentioned in Fire and Blood, which this TV series is based on.

Corlys Velaryon

Corlys Velaryon, known as the Sea Snake, was a fabled Lord of the Tides, Master of Driftmark, and head of House Velaryon.[6] He was the husband of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. During the Dance of the Dragons, he became Hand to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.[7]

I'm curious how they handle the whole issue around the parentage of Rhaenyra's children if Corlys (and thus his children) are black. After all, Rhaenyra (the heir to the throne) is married to Corlys' son (at least in GRRM's canon), who has the typical Valyrian features. However, the parentage of their children is in doubt, since they don't share the silver hair of their parents, which is a big plot point that contributes to a succession crisis (sounds familiar, doesn't it?)

However, if Corlys is black, then so is his son (or at least mixed), which would mean Rhaenyra's children have to be mixed looking too, otherwise it would be too obvious that they aren't her husband's. Wrong hair color is one thing, but if those kids are of the wrong race, then there's no plausible deniability whatsoever. As a comparison, imagine if they had cast a black actor to play Jaime Lannister in the original series, lol. Everyone would've immediately known that Cersei's kids aren't Robert's. The only way around that would be if Rhaenyra's lover (and real father of her children) is black too, which would be a bit too much.

Another question is, if Corlys Velaryon is black, then so would be his parents. Does that mean the Velaryons have always been black? But they are a Westerosi noble family (though of Valyrian descend), which has intermarried with other Westerosi nobles (including the Targaryens) for centuries. Does that mean there are a bunch of mixed race aristocrats running around Westeros? And shouldn't the Velaryons themselves have become more light skinned over time if they've intermarried with Westerosi? But the actor in that pic does look very black – not mixed at all, but purely black. And those Targaryens don't look as if they have any black ancestry either.

I guess they could simply change the history of House Velaryon, and make them newcomers from Essos or something. Of course, this would mean Rhaenyra is married to someone different. I really wonder how they write themselves out of this.
 
House Velaryon purpose is to breed with House Targaryen and create dragonriders. You need blood purity for it or otherwise your dragonriders capabilities will be erased with time. That's why Targaryens marry each other, to preserve their blood and the magical capabilities that comes with it.

Genetics are actually a big important part in the lore and the plot, but for the ideologically posessed the only thing that matters is their politics being pushed in everything.

I wouldn't put that much thought into it.

Game of Thrones was a different universe to the ASOIAF books upon which it was based. George has mentioned the 'butterfly effect' many times regarding the differences to the show and the book.

In this sense, it's best to imagine the HBO universe as a totally separate universe to the ones in the books.

Jon Neu's point/issue comes from him caring about being 1:1 accurate with the books, not race. That's why I didn't point him out.

The other guy I quoted above thought it was for a different reason and tried to piggyback from a worse angle.

How is it dumb because my interest in another GoT adaption dropped off due to the lack luster conclusion of the previous series.
I said it's hard to give a fuck, not that I would never watch it. Relax lol.

And for the record I watched the Mandalorian and felt indifferent to TROS; Star Wars is extremely overrated imo, but I digress.

You have a point and if I didn't know Jon Neu Jon Neu well enough, I would have agreed with you. But from knowing Jon Neu's posting style on this forum, things being book accurate is his usual intent. He sometimes does 1 to 3 word posts like that to bait out the more questionable posters here, while also trolling people like yourself. It's devious but it gets the job done and also gets a conversation flowing.

I just used SW as an example. If there's an interesting built world, there's always opportunities for great stories. If you were ever interested in the world George created I can't see how you wouldn't be interested in this because if another story set in the same world. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Well for one, it's an adaption and GRRM isn't writing this show.
One of the main reasons for the drop off in GoT writing was due to the series show runners no longerr having any of GRRM's books to work from.
So forgive me if I'm not keen on spending time getting invested into any show just because.

It doesn't have to make sense to you, it's matter of preference.
