House Republicans/Ryan Finally Release ACA Repeal (lol) and Replace (lol) Bill

How can Trump be okay with this plan when he campaigned on more universal healthcare than Obama could even provide? That was one thing that made him stand out from the rest of the GOP.

If I wanted to lower the level of political discourse I'd say he is ok with the plan because he is a liar.

It's not even 'the plan' though. He's already talked about how this is phase 1. Anything not accomplished or solved by this bill can keep being kicked down the road to another phase.

Don't worry, as soon as this doesn't pass the house Trump will say he never supported it, will leave Ryan out to dry

(Not saying that'll work, but he'll try)

So for those in congress asking for a full repeal separated from replacement, can they do that without 60 votes in the senate?

Trumps thoughts on the matter:

I don't think he even knows what is coming out of his mouth. "The plan, is good plan, because the plan is a plan. And that's good, plans. Good. No plans, SAD!".

At what point in time in the US were non-wealthy people able to choose their doctors? If you're on a bare bones insurance plan that doesn't pay well a ton of doctors won't see you. And if you're on Medicaid good luck finding a quality doctor, you're going to need it.

So the underpants gnome strategy.

Phase 1 - release plan obviously worse than the ACA
Phase 2 - ????
Phase 3 - Everybody covered

I though they were living the high life with their iphones, refrigerators and lobster.

Saw Paul Ryan's conference. No more nanny state in terms of healthcare ay. I assume he and his fellow politicians will be the first to give up their healthcare and pay for it through their new plan.

Conway says President and Vice President all in

“The president is confident that the American Health Care Act will pass the House and the Senate and [will] become the law — absolutely,” Ms. Conway said on Fox News.

“He is really husbanding this through,” Ms. Conway said of Mr. Trump. “Some people suggested that he be the closer. Some people suggested he be the leadoff batter. The president and the vice president, are all in here.”

I'm starting to worry this might actually pass. Do any Republicans have the balls to stand up to what Trump wants?

Yes, there's a real possibility they all might just roll over because it accomplishes their #1 goal: sticking it to the liberals and Obama. The problem is it's a really terrible bill, even by conservative standards. While House members in deep red districts don't care, plenty of Senators who foresee long careers will stay away.

Do you guys really think they'll vote for a plan that's opposed by numerous conservative groups and the AARP? Seems like a really good way to lose primaries and elections

It's going to be so funny to see their reactions and them being pissed off and create more internal fighting when Trump gets pissed like a small child from the bill being rejected. I can't wait for him to fry. Well, fry more and more till they are burnt to nothing but pure black coal.

Yeah, I don't see it happening. AARP, AMA, numerous ocnservative groups, and anyone with a heart and common sense are against this thing.

Passing this would pretty much guarantee a democratic takeover of the House for next election.

Trump's supporters seem to believe literally anything he says, and his approval ratings are very high among Republicans. The House is trying to figure out if it's worth being on the shit list of so many people even though the bill is clearly garbage.

They are banking on them falling in line when the time comes. It might actually work that way to be honest.

At the end of the day, they will fall in line. I really think people need to start coming to grips with this passing

The strongest lobby in the United States is strongly against this.

If this were a gun law, and the NRA was strongly against it, you'd likely be saying "this will never pass, the NRA doesn't want it" and yet here's an even more powerful lobby (AARP) against the law.

As written, I expect it to die immediately in the Senate. Multiple Senators are against Medicaid change and multiple are against the tax credits. They would need a half dozen dems at least to pass this in the end by my best guess.

I don't think this has a chance in its current form to get through the Senate.
Too many non-starters, especially the Medicaid [sic] provisions.
Most states aren't prepared to deal with the fallout when the block grants dry up.

Honestly if it had stuck to just fucking up the ACA and not included a bunch of Ryan's entitlement reform wet dreams, it might have had a chance. This bill is too extreme for some, too moderate for others, and just plain bad policy.

Worst part is that if/when this bill gets shit-canned and Ryan goes back to the drawing board, he's just going to craft an EVEN WORSE bill.

Next bill is probably going to do away with insurance for anyone making less than 100k a year. Instead they'll be given a handgun with a single bullet.

"You know what to do if you get sick."

If this thing passes, it needs to be nicknamed Republicare (or something similar that indicts all Republicans and not just Trump).

Let them wear this thing around their neck like a stone fucking albatross.

Someone's been reading the Republican Party platform.

They will pass it for sure. What Trump and co keep hammering is that it's great and will pass, and that things are collapsing, so the Republicans who stand against it will be blamed for the fallout. Forget it, it will pass.

Yeah, the elderly (pre-seniors, in this case, the 55-64 group) are going to turn up the heat, and older folks vote, and often vote Republican due to their biases but the ones that aren't completely in the tank will turn on them in a second if it means higher healthcare bills.

I don't know if they'll be able to reach a compromise on this or not. Ryan's stupid if he thinks the Freedom Caucus is going to fall in line over something like "perfect is the enemy of the good," though.

trump was always just gonna pass whatever so he could checkmark the box and try to use his disinformation machine to sooth away the negatives

Read an article where congressman Mo Brooks was disappointed in the bill but thought the president was malleable about it because "he told me he doesn't care what passes he just wanted to pass something.".

Not that this is a surprise but for his supporters how can you possibly feel comfortable with the president not caring about such an important thing.

You have to give credit for the GOP for this bill. Ensuring that insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and the ultra wealthy in general are able to siphon off as much money as possible from the lower and middle classes and the elderly while also ensuring people aren't getting healthcare and are dying in the street is not an easy needle to thread.

Why will it pass. I see no reason to believe it'll pass in the house or senate. On the far right there's a revolt over it not repealing Obamacare in full, and the inclusion of tax credits (subsidies) for the poor. On the interest group front the AARP and hospital groups oppose it. And then there are angry old white people of conservative and liberal inclination who are upset about it.

You need coalitions to pass major legislation and this bill doesn't have one...outside of some establishment republicans in DC.

The AARP can literally robocall millions of fogeys across America at a moment's notice, get them riled up over the consequences of this bill, say "press 1 if you'd like to be connected to your congressman/senator's office," and connect them right away. They are a machine to be feared.
