The GOP doesn't care. They'll take and take and take for as long as they can, then walk it back an inch if there's outrage, then take and take and take, then walk it back an inch. They'll repeat this until their most awful-yet-acceptable-by-their-base ideas get through.

They fuck people over when in power and blame the other side for everything when they're not.

Question- Do we know what those in high risk pools would be paying under this plan as opposed to the ACA?

None of them will be able to afford it anyway so it's probably a non-issue. If I recall correctly the CBO originally said for a High-Risk Pool program to work they would need like $110b over 10 years, and this plan gives them like $11b over that time frame. Shit just isn't going to work--and that's the plan.

Jason Chaffetz was just on New Day on CNN explaining the new plan, and it didn't sound good. He pulled a Don Mattrick, responding to Alisyn's question about lower income people not being able to afford healthcare, "well maybe they need to prioritize it... if they were looking forward to buying that new expensive iPhone, maybe they have to put that money towards health care instead".

Fair enough Jason, but what about when that becomes "well, instead of going out and buying $200 worth of food for your family, maybe you should put that money towards healthcare".

GOP just.... doesn't.... fucking....get it.

What's the benefit of this? What are they saying is the benefit, I mean. I was paying almost $400 a month for individual care before I took a job outside of the US. You're telling me that, were I to move back to the US, my premiums would shoot up to $500 a month? Fuck that. This doesn't even go into all the shit they're pulling on the elderly.

Hugs National Health Insurance tightly.

They get it. They just don't care. I mean they are doing all they can to rile up the dem base though. This bill won't even get passed amongst themselves

Ah yes, the good old "poor people have fridges" argument.

Seriously, fuck the GOP.

I hate this stigma of all lower income people have the latest and greatest phones.

Chaffetz is a worm

I'm upper middle class and I don't have the latest and greatest phone. This claim has always seemed like BS to me. Just a dumb deflection to put the blame on the poor instead of where it actually belongs.

I don't know. I heard from a friend of a friend that they saw a woman buy food with food stamps and then she pulled out an iPhone!1!!1! Like way to be a drain on society.

Lol so the GOP is gung ho about "protecting" Americans from the boogeyman outside the borders, but they'll do fuck all to actually help Americans inside it.

If they can make health care the price of a fucking iPhone every year I will personally give Chaffetz a blowjob and vote Republican for life.

Fuck off Chaffetz. Poor people don't buy iphones. They are just trying to fucking survive and provide. What a stupid generalization.

Lol so the GOP is gung ho about "protecting" Americans from the boogeyman outside the borders, but they'll do fuck all to actually help Americans inside it.

Cause it's not about protecting, or safety, never was, never has been, never will be, it's only a means to manipulate and exploit people's fear for political gain.

The only shocking thing is how obvious it is yet still effective

I can see it now. "Oh, nice. I love in SC, but I can get this super nice plan from VT, but that means I can only see doctors in Vermont! Nice!"

At least, I assume that could happen.

What's more likely is "I bought this $200/mo plan from Wyoming, it screws me in every conceivable way and the insurance commissioner laughed his ass off when I called".

Years ago, someone must have done some seriously good convincing to get Trump to believe this is the single best solution to all of our health care problems.

He pushes this as if this is just "one simple trick to save American healthcare. Lawmakers are furious!" when it's a garbage solution that at best does nothing, but at worst severely diminishes the power of states to control their own health costs.

They'd have to be insane to remove it for bills. Reid nuking it for cabinet picks was already considered nuts. Dems better win congress back in 2020 then and ram whatever they want through... Them nuking the filibuster will just result in party swaps every 4 years removing what the previous group did.

I mean, we're already at the first stage of that. I'm not saying its a sustainable path of governance but the Trump administration and GOP Congress are explicitly dismantling everything that Obama achieved during his two terms. I don't know what possible response there is to this kind of scorched earth except pushing for a more extreme swing when the majority flips. Of course the majority flipping may not be possible in the next 4 years and if the GOP controls redistricting in 2020, well... It's not gonna be a fun decade.

Just like Jesus

They should just be calling it what it is -

Dumb Obamacare.

Now imagine. They have people in their caucus who think this doesn't go far enough. There are also members who will vote against this plan because its too much. Thus you realize the predicament they are in. Don't worry tho, the deft hand of paul ryan, the conservative p90x wunderkind, will see us through.

Jesus. 30% surcharge is so much worse than a small tax penalty. Especially because this does fuck all to address rising health care costs. 30% for the year is insane.

Using an iPhone to determine spending habits is like using a groundhog to determine weather except people know the groundhog thing isn't supposed to be taken seriously.

You can get a used iPhone 6 that looks basically identical to a iPhone 7 for $200, get a $30 a month Boost mobile plan, and have spent $250 less a year than someone who gets whatever free phone they can from T-Mobile on the cheapest plan they're willing to mention unprompted.

I think using an iPhone or anything else low-income people use is pretty shameful. He's making a broad stroke about all poor people. Maybe he should get out more.

Wtf . Didn't he write this bill?

Paul Ryan wrote the bill, Rand Paul is the libertarian senator, son of Ron Paul, former presidential candidate.

While I appreciate that he's giving resistance to this, he's only doing it because he wants the complete and full gutting of any form of government sponsored healthcare. His utopia is an America with no social safety nets. But if it helps kill this bill then I'm fine with it, I'd imagine the Hosue Freedom Caucus will pose a similar hurdle for Paul Ryan.

If this thing were to pass I would expect there to quickly be stories of people losing their healthcare for being 2 days late on a payment and then being slowwalked through getting new coverage to the point where they get the penalty rate hike.

Lol Day 1 and Chaffertz can't even resist the fuck off poor people angle in a national interview. How do people fall for this shit again and again?

It's honestly just branding at this point.

Democrats = Evil
Obama = Socialist, Marxist, Muslim, etc. etc. etc.
Obamacare = Disaster

So if you believe all that shit, then when your Team tells you they're plan is better you believe it. They don't even really have to hide what a shit deal it is for people since you are conditioned to swallow whatever they sell you. What's your other options, vote for a Democrat? What are you a baby-killer? An atheist pervert? Bleeding-heart Communist?

Real Americans™ vote Republican.

The freedom caucus won't vote for this, neither will Dems (for opposite reasons). This is dead on arrival.

Just like a lot of us will be if this does pass.
