I prefer Germany's decentralised system compared to the UK's where everything is London centric and the rest of the country suffers for it. Hopefully the northern powerhouse changes the status quo.
Whaaaa? I mean, Bremen is debatable, but Dresden is a very nice city and one in which rebuilding after being more or less annihilated during WWII went (mostly) very well.Berlin is interesting if you are a tourist because of the history which gives Berlin a different vibe than other capitals or as student because everything is way cheaper than in Hamburg or Munich but you aren't stuck at ugly places like Bremen or Dresden.
Grüne Neustadt and the villes around Bühlau are nice, but other than that? I grew up in the city, but I don't think it's particularly good looking. After living in Hamburg for a few years I don't really want to switch back.Whaaaa? I'm surprised most of the replies here put the blame only in negligence (both in the planning, building and awarding of the contracts) and won't even dare mention corruption (again, in all sides). The costs of a project don't balloon such an incredible amount just out of regular ineptitude. We're talking about a ludicrous overbudget. The same way Calatrava's projects always scale out of proportion and even when everybody knows this he still gets the contracts. And then he does it again. It's not just a matter of poor management.
True teminds me how hypocrite Germany is with corruption and Greece. It's not even strictly illegal in some cases, our government refuses to comply to the EU anti-corruption guidelines. And especially bavarian politicians get very sweaty when this topic comes up. Not that other politicans don't have massive dirt, but Bavaria is somewhat shining.I'm surprised most of the replies here put the blame only in negligence (both in the planning, building and awarding of the contracts) and won't even dare mention corruption (again, in all sides). Okay, I only visited Dresden as a tourist for a few days, so I can't really say how it is to live there. Also, for some weird coincidence Hamburg is one of only two major cities (out of the top 20 by population) in Germany I never visited besides Nuremberg (and yes, I know I need to change that), so I can't even compare that.I lived in Dresden for my some time and outside of the city core there is nothing of worth. No jobs, ruins and ghettos.
ARD and ZDF are the only German networks to produce quality content. All the private channels create is scripted reality garbage and the dumbest and cheapest shows possible. Other than that, all they air are US shows that they usually run into the ground quickly with daily re-runs. It's embarrassing.Sure, but ARD/ZDF wasting money on crap like Tatort or The Oscars isn't ideal either. At least they didn't get the rights to the next two Olympics this time, let's see how that'll work.
Tatort Münster and Tatort Weimar are fucking awesome. Especially if you like random, dark comedies. Not for the lowest common denominator though. Your enjoyment largely depends on your education and upbringing. Münster in particular has lots of commentaries on Christian student fraternities and similar organizations.Really?
R-E-A-L-L-Y?
Why? I want to understand. I need to understand.

Lot of them, big and small. The Venice of the North is only nice when you're a tourist, it has a lit of culture and history and works well to present and preserve it. However under the hood you got huge tensions. Left and right are very strong in tue city and by god don't be close to the city center when Dynamo Dresden has a game. This football club is just plain bad, but it has a huge crowd of vocal and violent fans to the point where Daxony regularly has to hire police from other countries to deal with them on big games.Okay, I only visited Dresden as a tourist for a few days, so I can't really say how it is to live there. But I'm honestly interested how many "nice" cities there even are in your opinions if Dresden is not included in this.
Auch ein blindes Huhn findet mal ein Korn.Except RTL's amazing Deutschland 83 of course.

Still, doesn't make up for shit like "Die Trovatos", "Die 50 [random superlative] [random substantive]", "Verdachtsfälle", "Bachelorette", "Adam & Eva" and all that other cringeworthy, braindead garbage.

It starts to suck badly if you want to work for a living.
I agree. Berlin is ok once your too drunk to care. Last time I visited that city I got swine flu just from using the S-Bahn.
This made me curious about how that Seattle tunnel thing is going.

Not well, apparently.
