How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

Nottathing...

Don't support companies that outright try to buttrape. Also think $500 is a bit steep for the company. Don't really care how much money the gaming division has loss, MS can afford to sell the box at a higher loss.

smh...and the way there first party games have dried up is astounding.

For me they no longer have the better controller, superior online (seemingly) or early lead which led to better games. Early $$ money hats aren't enough to fool me, I want a diverse lineup, and so far it seems I'll get that on other platforms.

I'm just done supporting Microsoft in general. I'm pretty knobbed off with them. Sony, Nintendo, PC (SteamOS) will get my monies for the foreseeable future.

Aside from the RROD fiasco, it seems like everybody did pretty darn well with the 360, on both sides of the ball. MS sold lots of consoles, and lots of Live memberships, and a metric shitload of software. And I think their customer base was, by in large, pretty happy with the deal they got. So... why is MS shit canning pretty much everything that got them to where they are? (They are presumably keeping their best-in-class online infrastructure. In fairness, I shouldn't ignore that.)

It confuses me.

This. They were only moderately successful with the Xbox 360 due to Sony's constant foul-ups with the PS3 this gen (even Robbie Bach admitted this), & now all of a sudden, they act like they're invincible? LOL. At least Sony had an excuse to act arrogant due to winning so big with PS1 & PS2.

Microsoft's been losing more & more of their core fanbase by the minute. First, with the last three years in which they handled the Xbox 360, then with the DRM incident & the $500 price tag with Xbox One.

And before Kinect was officially released in November 2010, the install base for the Xbox 360 was at something like 45 million, while the PS3's install base was at something like 41 or 42 million. Y'know who bought the most Xbox 360's starting in late 2010 to now present time? It wasn't gamers, but casuals/non-gamers because of Kinect, due to it's $500 million advertising. The core gamers from Xbox 360 have all moved onto either PS3 or PC gaming for their fix (which is one of the reasons why PS3 eventually caught up to the 360 in worldwide sales & has even surpassed them in sales) & will most likely move onto PS4 while still continuing on with PC gaming.

Go back in time and prevent trying to pull the biggest anti-user power grap that the entire videogame industry has ever seen since its beginning.
Sorry Microsoft will sit the next generation out for me no matter what, even if they are last console on the market.
What happens after the next gen i cant say but currently i dont trust them to not try to pull similar bullshit in the future should they ever be "industry leader" and dont have any serious competition anymore *shudders*

Bolster up it's stable of first party development studios, release a big game that isn't a shooter, and bring back B&K, drop the Kinect from the box, take services like Netflix and Hulu out of XBL Gold.

Really if they do just two of those I'll be happy, considering how much they've already changed their tune. Of course that still isn't going to bring them on par with PS4 because of the power difference, but at least I'll happily buy one as a second console down the line.

I still fail to see what was so bad about their original policies. I mean seriously, do you think you'll still be buying physical discs by the next generation of consoles? Everyone says choice matters but in this case who cares? Let's progress already, go all digital, and in the process figure out how to move on from archaic market policies and invent new ways to buy, share and enjoy media that fits this future.

Quit holding us back you whiners. Jesus.
Physical disc copies. I was looking forward to buying games like TitanFall and others this way, installing the game to the hdd, and then never worrying about a disc ever again. That seemed awesome to me, but nah, you guys had to screw that all up for reasons I still fail to understand. Its easy to complain about something before you have the chance to try it and see if it works; before you get to see the potential something like that could have with how you buy and play games. Seriously, you guys use GAF, you have to be seeing these new game sales as often as I do.
What the actual hell is up with some of you DRM apologisers, seriously?

So all the people who disagreed with the original policies were nothing more than 'whiners' because (shock, horror) they didn't like the idea pointless, bullshit restrictions on a console where the negatives of the DRM vastly outweighed whatever positives Microsoft were trying desperately to spin out of it to convince us all otherwise?

Nothing at this point. I've made up my mind to go with the other guys. Microsoft lost me by being tremendously out of touch.

I warmed up to them for a while but requiring Kinect is a deal killer for me. I don't want that at all. I might take Kinect if the XB1 was $100 cheaper than the PS4 but there's no way I can see paying extra for it.

We'll see, things change but as of right now I'm not that interested.

Haven't done anything wrong in my eyes. I have both consoles paid in full and both console manufacturers are fine in my eyes.

I feel like this thread appears like, once a month.

At this rate, MS will be lucky to get money from me in 5-6 years time. Only if they show commitment to supporting the Xbone for that period of time with a consistently high-quality exclusive lineup. In other words, only if to play a bunch of sweet games, I have to buy an Xbone. This is what happened with the PS3 this generation. I bought it at the end of last year. I wouldn't have bought it before then.

The alternative, that would lower the bar in terms of the number of games I'd be willing to buy it for, is if they come out with a DD-only 'slim' Xbone with no Kinect and no BR drive in a few years for ~£200. Actually I wonder if they might do this if Xbone in its current incarnation tanks. Fingers crossed.

Bring out one exclusive I care about. I don't like racing games, so I don't care about Forza. And Ryse and Dead Rising don't do it for me either. Maybe if I wait a bit a game will hit that I want and I'll get a nice bundle or Target gift card with my purchase.

I am buying a PS4 at launch, but their launch exclusives do nothing for me either. I am just going that direction first because it appears to be the more powerful machine at the cheaper price. Neither of these companies has any loyalty from me whatsoever. They're companies. They won't love me back.

They burned me multiple times this gen via RROD and only fixed them due to a lawsuit that made them institute that warranty(as it did many others...not sure how people can just forgive that).
The price.
The seemingly lack of core focus of the system. They are all over the map with the Xbone, it's very off-putting and doesn't instill confidence.
Power--giving up that large of a gap...even if it turns into 25% real-world performance as DigitalFoundry suggests is still quite big. Especially once it's coupled with the price.
First party--severely lacking; at least in comparison to Sony's output. Anyone who doubts this can just look at the last few years of this generation.

After having the worst hardware quality control experiences ever and experiencing MS going hung ho on games then basically say "meh we did enough" and the flow turn to a drip, they didn't have me. Then they spat in consumers MS style until the mass general media including financial focused media tear them to pieces with the failure of their surface they then "listened" to the gamers? No thanks.

I'll follow it for a few years and once they get the price acceptable, with loads of exclusive and compelling software, and the thing is reliable, we'll see. That's if I'm not more than satisfied by the ps4 and PC offerings.

Drop the penny pinching on Live.

Half the world has no use for most of its 'features' because we don't even get access to them. It's not Microsoft's fault (but rights holders) but that doesn't help us any when all we want is online play.

I'm only getting one console this generation, and it isn't going to be an XBox... between their policies, lack of Indies, and general spirit of ineptitude there isn't a chance in Hell

Maybe next time, MS!

They already did by bringing back the 90s and having Orchid at launch

I just hope they keep it up

The damage was permanently done when MS screwed me out of just shy of 3 years of Gold when I requested they turn off auto-renew for Gold and take my credit card off of the account. In some ways it was my fault for not going the successful Sony/Nintendo formula. It worked perfectly PS1/N64/GB, PS2/GCN/GBA, etc.

I'll go exclusive if MS announces more RARE revivals (Perfect Dark 2, a new true platformer Banjo-Kazooie, new Jet force gemini, get a deal worked out for goldeneye hd, etc.etc.) + Alan Wake 2. Also make the next HALO not suck by creating a good logical story and not listening to focus groups letting the developers imaginations go wild instead. Also please bring back Project Gotham Racing and Crimson Skies.

So much salt in this thread...

Buying both systems at launch...I'm pretty certain that once Halo and Titanfall launch most of the "Nope that ship has sailed" folk will be singing a different tune.

So many people here are taking Microsoft's digital future stance as some kind of personal insult...

Ive slowly come to a realisation that unless MS moneyhat FF or a major JRPG, they wont get my money. Their policy changes show they have no faith in their ideas and will change as needed and will probably change after launch to enact their 'vision'.

Also I expect them to slow down releases to virtually nothing by the mid to end of generation like we have seen with the 360 for years now. And while they will launch with some SOME variety in games, I fully expect them to drop back to the shitty fps genre being the focal point of their releases.

Lastly why would I pay more for a weaker console with features that wont work in my country? At the end of the day the Bone is an american console for americans.

I honestly can't believe that Microsoft had a place in peoples' hearts after the RROD fiasco. I jumped ship from the 360 after one faulty console in 2006 and never looked back (which got easier and easier with all the similar hardware failure horror stories). So I've had contempt for them for years, and that contempt turned into outright malice after their initial Xbox One announcement/strategy unveiling. They've since gone back on a lot of that stuff, but it makes no difference... the cat is out of the bag. We know what they want to do as a company, and none of it is good for consumers.

But the DRM made things incredible on the xbox one.

1. Games are available day one digitally and also at brick and mortar stores. You can wait in line but if you don't want to, fine, just download it at home. Either way, you can install the entire game to hdd and never worry about the disc again.

2. Sharing the disc. Now that it's installed on the HDD, you can either set that disc on fire, or let your friends borrow it. You can only loan a game once, but eh, because there are other ways to share.

3. Family sharing would let you have 10 people that could access your full library of games. That also means that if you had an xbox one, I could just go to your house, digitally transfer my account, and play the games there at your house. Not to mention, my brother 5 states away could play my games as well as 9 other people across the nation. And even better, I get to play their games as well. That sounds great to me.

All of that seems amazing to me. F physical media; it only means limitations. How about being able to spread out your media collection as wide as you want, just letting MS check every 24 hours just to make sure you're not abusing the system because you know people would if they could. Nothing was stopping people from buying or selling used games. Nothing was stopping people from letting friends borrow games. There seemed to be no limitations except people being scared of new things.

What about Halo 4's story wasn't logical? It made sense, the details were just scattered amongst other mediums.
