How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

But the DRM made things incredible on the xbox one.

1. Games are available day one digitally and also at brick and mortar stores. You can wait in line but if you don't want to, fine, just download it at home. Either way, you can install the entire game to hdd and never worry about the disc again.

2. Sharing the disc. Now that it's installed on the HDD, you can either set that disc on fire, or let your friends borrow it. You can only loan a game once, but eh, because there are other ways to share.

3. Family sharing would let you have 10 people that could access your full library of games. That also means that if you had an xbox one, I could just go to your house, digitally transfer my account, and play the games there at your house. Not to mention, my brother 5 states away could play my games as well as 9 other people across the nation. And even better, I get to play their games as well. That sounds great to me.

All of that seems amazing to me. F physical media; it only means limitations. How about being able to spread out your media collection as wide as you want, just letting MS check every 24 hours just to make sure you're not abusing the system because you know people would if they could. Nothing was stopping people from buying or selling used games. Nothing was stopping people from letting friends borrow games. There seemed to be no limitations except people being scared of new things.

wtf is this....

1. This is already available.
2. This feature did not exist once the game was installed on your machine the disc could not be installed on any other machine.
3. that wasn't real, as far as we know it was a 60 minute limit.

BTW it was stopping people privately buying/selling used games, the discs had to be re-activated "at participating retailers" The games could not be lent physically at all, the disc was useless. You need to take another look at the DRM. I thought GAF was past this amount of uninformed FUD.

If this was so amazing, MS wouldn't have backpedaled on it. At the end of the day, they ditched the idea (probably for now) BECAUSE the majority of people must not have liked it. Just as it is impressive for you, it wont be the case for others.

Nothing. Now that they've shown their hand with their true intentions, I'm out for at least a generation. And Xbox 360 was my main console.

Consoles are not ready for this at least not now. And still sounds horrible..i am even glad they did a u-turn. But still they didn't listen to the core gamers and doing stuff that doesn't make sense.

Cheaper cheaper cheaper...

That is it. They already have a solid lineup of games I want to play, mostly Forza at launch for me personally. If this thing was $349 with or without the kinect I'd be getting one day 1. Its hard to sit back and see everything that's happened with the XB1 and then still be able to justify $500 when there is a much more appealing offer on the table for less. Granted there aren't many exclusive games at launch I want to play on PS4 evne though I have one preordered.

But I am biased as I will be getting a PS4 no matter what down the line anyways to fuel my MLB: The Show habit.

I was day one for both systems since the reveals so the question doesn't really apply to me, but I don't think it's a good time to ask it. By now most people have made their decisions and any promises MS may make isn't going to change them.

Once both systems have been out for a bit and we get a better sense of the capabilities and vision for each (and how well that vision is realized), you'll see more people open up to each console.

Ditch the Kinect.

No kinect

Scrap kinect

Remove kinect and drop the price. It's that easy.

No Kinect would be a decent start

I don't like Kinect and won't pay an extra $100 for a device that will be unplugged from day one. If they release a XB1 without it, I'll think about it. But given how many 180's MS has done, who is to say they won't 180 right back into where they were after they have your money.

I don't understand how this sounds horrible though, because technically it never took anything away. If anything it added an extra layer of functionality for digital games; something that's not limited by physicality. The only thing that might be a problem for some would be the 24 hour check in.

Honestly, I'm not sure they can. And it's not really out of the usual "OMG THEY BETRAYED US" talk, though I didn't like their DRM stance on principle. The fact of the matter is, it's $100 more than the PS4, and most of the games it's going to get will either be on PC or PS4 (and potentially be better on PS4 and almost certainly on PC).

Their exclusives don't really interest me--I don't need Halo or Gears, and Fable might as well be dead, so that basically leaves Forza. Which I will gladly buy if Microsoft can come up with more compelling reasons for me to buy the thing. Their TV initiatives won't be available in Canada for a while, it seems, and even if they were there at launch, guess what? I don't have cable and barely watch television nowadays. Kinect is only interesting to me in the sense that I could theoretically have a voice-activated music jukebox, but considering how bad both Microsoft and Sony were at DLNA media management and UI last gen, I don't have high hopes for this working at all. Anything involving the actual camera? My living room setup is poorly suited to it.

PC's got the best indie games collection, bar none, and many big-budget games will look and play better there too. PS4's got the Japanese market locked down, so I'm expecting the next generation of JRPGs to hit PS4 first (and possible exclusively). Or maybe they'll stick with PS3 and Wii U for another few years, which is also fine with me.

In summary: what Microsoft needs to do is open up a whole new area of gaming that the others can't or won't serve at the moment, because all my gaming needs are better met by other devices already.

You do know why pre orders didn't live up when they announced it right? The Hardcore gamers didn't want this and still don't even the kinect. And it shows everywhere when Sony did show what gamers wanted. Games but a side of that it was not smart in the long run 24 hour check ins,one time to give a game once every 30 days is just to dumb for example. Also the PR has been a disaster even after the 180's. Looking at digital foundry against Xbone i found it laughable how they twist and turn again.

This have been very amusing ride for me so far, how do you shatter a mather of trust in consumers with horrible drm's restricitions and what not. Well they did and like i said even after a 180 turn i still don't trust them it's like Sony in 2006 and well they learned a lot and look how far we are now.

To me when a company shows what needs to be shown and what i needed to hear then you can have my money. Vote with your wallet and think a little clearer how they approached every consumer, look if you want to buy it..go ahead give them your money but a matter of trust for me has been broken. Still but loads behind a paywall. Still 100 euro's more expensive and still a kinect camera i never liked for example.

Dedicated server for all mp games. No lag ever again.

Lagless mp experience will be a bigger draw than better graphics.
Its evident a big chunk of GAF are not online gamers.
Dedicated servers is the biggest news of all for the next gen. MS has an actual announced plan for dedi servers and we know the games that are using them - on the flip side, Sony has said next to nothing about the subject.

Seriously?

1. Games are available day one digitally and also at brick and mortar stores. You can wait in line but if you don't want to, fine, just download it at home. Either way, you can install the entire game to hdd and never worry about the disc again.
Games are already available day one digitally and the same trend will carry on into next generation, regardless of the DRM.

2. Sharing the disc. Now that it's installed on the HDD, you can either set that disc on fire, or let your friends borrow it. You can only loan a game once, but eh, because there are other ways to share.
Okay, this was pretty cool - but by originally having this mandatory, disc space would have been a concern, especially without the ability to replace the Xbox One's hard drive. The only being able to physically loan a copy of a game once was pretty ridiculous.

That sounds great to me..
Funny thing is there were restrictions on how to get people on that list, and there were rumours floating around that this feature was going to be time restricted. The fact that it got dropped almost immediately without a trace with the 180 sort of suggested Microsoft were either reluctant to incorporate the feature in the first place or it wasn't in any form ready - or at least not for launch, along with a lot of other things at the moment.

All of that seems amazing to me. F physical media; it only means limitations. How about being able to spread out your media collection as wide as you want, just letting MS check every 24 hours just to make sure you're not abusing the system because you know people would if they could.
Oh, please. You know this wasn't the only reason MS wanted you have to be connected to the internet every 24 hours. Not only that, but requiring an internet would have cut a huge chunk of the consumer base off - not everyone can hook their console up to the internet.

Nothing was stopping people from buying or selling used games.
Yes there was...

Nothing was stopping people from letting friends borrow games.
Erm, yes there was...

There seemed to be no limitations except people being scared of new things.
Scared of new things? Please. People didn't want to have DRM and used game restrictions of their console, that's why they complained - this is some crazy-ass revisionist history going on here. The backlash had next to nothing to do with people being 'scared of new things'. Do you really think anything that happened following E3 would have happened if all these features were there without any form of DRM?

The only thing they could do is make XBLG free and drop their bullshit DLC policies. And they will never do that so they can fuck off for all I care.

For me to even consider a Xbox One, Microsoft would have to show that they are not going to re-implement those horrible restrictive policies such as having to connect online once every twenty-four hours and restricting how many consoles an individual game can play on and avoid those restrictive policies for the 9th gen.

But I don't trust Microsoft to have the best interest in their customer, so...

"How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?"

Considering I now have 3 RROD consoles in the closet I'm hoping they put some thought into the reliability of their console this time around....

XBOX One: [babbling and struggling] I love you. You... you can game on me. And I just...

PopcornMegaphone: Shut up,

[Pause]

PopcornMegaphone: just shut up.

[Pause]

PopcornMegaphone: You had me at Halo. You had me at Halo.

Again, there really wasn't horrible about the DRM policies. It's only been inflated to seem that way after the fact.

Realistically, especially since the "horrible" DRM policies were removed, the price is the absolute and only real problem. People can say otherwise, that it's a multitude of things, but unless you're a GAF'er, wont care about the other stuff come release day. Removing the kinect isn't the answer, but they do need to drop the price somehow.

I think they should open more to the fans and maybe give even more support to indie developers. Most of the people these days are focused on the machine specs, to be honest what matters to me is being able to play quality titles.

P.S. I'm also looking forward to play great quality titles with Sony's console.

I will say it again..it's about trust. And i don't trust them anymore even when they did 180's. My money is on sony. And why did i do that? They showed what i wanted to see games, games and games, good hardware and a low price.

Remove Kinect. I'll wait for a revised Xbox1 that doesn't have a power brick or even if it does the console is smaller.

There was a lot wrong with it.

That makes sense. The PS4 is an awesome rig. But there's no reason to trust Sony more than MS. Just because you're not saying much doesn't mean you have nothing to hide.

If Microsoft puts their reputation on the line and promises that they won't try to sneak the same anti-consumer policies on XB1 again, I might start considering it. But I'm talking about a press conference where they'll categorically deny that they'll do it again.

Sony has consistently been far more open than MS this time around. Pretending that Sony is just going to do the same things MS already had planned and rumored is ignorant. This argument has been shut down so many times.

They never had it, never will. The only Microsoft product I use/own is Windows, and it's staying that way. I went from Xbox, GameCube and PS2 to PS3 and Wii. Now it's just a one console future for me. The Xbox brand has been burned in my eyes. I hope they stick around for competition purposes though. They've pushed gaming into the future in terms of Live and indie gaming.

That sounds so... emotional. The only reason I'm buying a PS4 this fall is because it's cheaper, not because MS tried to wrong the gaming world and upset a couple of crybabies. They already have a lot of interesting exclusives so it all come down to the price.

I honestly (and unfortunately) can't go back.

I've been a Microsoft-only gamer since the first Xbox (yeah, bring the "Xbox One" pun) and it's hard to let it go from now on, but that's what's gonna have to be.

Even after all the dust has settled, I just can't let they slip away with everything they did and said. I can't forget how disconnected Mattrick (he left, I know, but he was part of the vision) and the team were and how disappointed I was with a business move so silly I don't even know where to start. And to be honest, the word "disconnected" is more an euphemism for "disrespectful". The reasons why they wanted to adopt so many controversial features and stick to them while trying to fight overall skepticism and negative feedback (and then just giving up) are all beyond me.

They turned back in the end, but that was solely because of the backlash. Had we not been active (and GAF was a lot responsible for this - another reason I really like this forum) enough to complain about it, they would be really happy about it.

It was really sad to see a small and dedicated team create an amazing system - I still believe the first Xbox was the best system I ever had - build a strong user base and just blow it all (or a good part of it) away, me included. The PS4 will be my first Sony console, but I'm actually happy to be valuing my own consumer opinion above everything.

$250 or less + kill Paywall for everything + better design of the console - I'm not getting caught red-handed with that fugly brick.

If Microsoft puts their reputation on the line and promises that they won't try to sneak the same anti-consumer policies on XB1 again, I might start considering it.

And this too. Make a public conference telling the world that people can sue MS openly if they ever introduce anti-consumerism tactics like they did with Xbone 1st attempt.

$399 Kinecless SKU with XBL Gold matching PS+ for value or $349 Kinectless SKU with XBL Gold staying the same.

PS+ is huge for Sony. I'm going to enjoy having Resogun and a version of Driveclub for free when I pick up my PS4.

Time. They've done the damage, and I won't be getting an X1 anytime soon. Maybe next Fall, maybe better but only until I'm sure they won't try pulling any more BS and when they have some worthwhile exclusives I can't get anywhere else (including PC, so no, Titanfall doesn't count). I honestly wonder what MS would do if they didn't have that game locked down. It's like they're banking the entire console on it, or at least it sure feels that way.

They don't need to.

Make a cheaper console and have a varied game's library and I will eventually get one.
No need to get my heart really.

Not in a rush though. And I don't plan to pay for Xbox Live ever again. It sucks compared to PS+.
