It doesn't make any sense to me business wise... Especially for the shorter games.
Earlier this year I subbed GamePass to play Hellblade 2, finished it and was surprised that MS offered me a refund when I cancelled my sub afterwards. At first I thought that surely they would still charge me for the few days I used GP but sure enough I got the whole money back...
Just now I almost did the same thing for Blacks Ops 6 but in the end I couldn't help to choose to keep GP for the rest of the month even though I don't really want to play another game from GP now. It just felt wrong to get the money back again because I think I got my 18 EUR worth with the game.
Is there a limit on how often you can make a sub for a short time and ask for a refund? If not, then devs of shorter games are screwed as you can basically play their games for free.
