How's it to play MGS without radar?

I'm planning to play a second time through MGS 1... I always used the radar when I finished MGS 2 4times and MGS 1time.

I'm playing it on normal atm and I just defeated ocelot, it's too easy in my opinion and I'm willing to switch over to hard and start that part over again.. though, if I pick hard it's without radar.

I'm asking now, how's it to play MGS without that radar? is it frustrating/more challenging?

More challenging, and a little frustrating in that the camera doesn't always jive well with the lack of radar. Still, I never used it in MGS2 or now MGS3. Much more fun.

personally i hate it

which is why mg3 3 is half unplayed.

if your gonna put the camera 10 feet above my head take away my ability to see (radar) and NOT allow me to move at all in first person mode (which is almost all the time), then at least gimme a behind the back OPTIONAL view... I dunno it just makes seeing in front of you cumbersome (aka i have to go against a wall stop and use fps look etc etc)

I'd already beaten MGS a couple times on normal before I tried it on hard. I really enjoyed the challenge of not having a radar. I used first person and the wall-look a lot more, and also used the stinger missile launcher to track enemies. The stinger trick is especially useful against certain bosses.
