Hype Check - Black Ops 3

I'm actually extremely hyped after playing a lot of the beta on X1. I have been trying to tell my clanmates, but I think there are a lot of different titles coming out that some players forget about COD or overlook it. They don't realize it's a first-time developer and that it's looking to be pretty fun. At least that's my opinion!

I have to admit there's a certain allure to it. Zombies specifically looks great, and some of the other shit I've been hearing sounds great too.

But then, I thought Advanced Warfare sounded great too. I played half the campaign, hated it, and never managed to enjoy multiplayer.

I'm not being swindled again.

I wasn't originally going to get the game, but I cancelled my NFS pre-order and put it towards COD instead. It is one of the games with a $10 gift card at Best Buy, so now will be the cheapest time to get it for quite awhile, and I really enjoy the campaigns. I couldn't care less about the MP, but the Zombies stuff looks interesting.

I had the same doubts

The beta won me over, and possibly most people with doubts

Did you get to try the beta?

The game is what AW isn't, fun.

I've honestly never played a Black OPs game (I actually never played the series past Modern Warfare 2) but those commercials look amazing and I might bite

Surprised i'm hyped as well after playing the Beta... really impressed me.

Mind sharing what made the beta stand out to you? Anyone else please chime in as well that played it. I keep hearing about it, never got the chance to play it so I am curious what made it so awesome.

I fell off the CoD hype train after MW3, and with the Overwatch beta I have my MP FPS fill for the year. My brother bought the game though so I'll probably try it out through Steam family sharing.

On that topic, is this like a continual story line or are the games standalone?

Storyline goes:

World at War -> Blops 1 -> Blops 2 -> Blops 3

That being said, Blops 3 will still have its own plot that will be introduced and resolved in the context of its own game, but it takes place after and makes reference to the other games.

I've not played a COD since Black Ops but for some reason this game is on my radar. It just looks interesting to me. Not sure yet if I'll buy it or not. Will wait for GAF impressions on campaign and possibly black friday deal.

Despite all the new movement mechanics and abilities, it still managed to feel like old school call of duty with combat being mostly grounded. This was something Advanced Warfare completely failed at. The maps were also pretty great.

Edit: At least that is why I enjoyed it.

Sure!

1) Player movement. Nailed what AW went overboard on. Fluid movement of jumps, wall-running and slides but it's restrained enough that you don't have people flipping all over the map in the air like in AW. You still will dominate even if you spend all your time "on the ground".

2) Map design. Back to the three main corridors/pathways through maps. Teams must control the map like you had to in BO1 & 2. From the 4 or so in the beta i didn't play one i didn't enjoy!

3) The specialists are very fun. Each has his/her own weapon/super and ability. Brings a really cool, new twist to the game.

I'm reasonably hyped. Having a lot of fun with halo 5 multiplayer right now - that said the black ops beta gameplay was really good.

I'm never hyped for the campaign but I suspect it will have a better campaign than halo 5 did

Oh thanks for this!

Damn....maybe I will have to dish out another $60 this month after all.

All the beta videos do look very nice! Either of you play on PS4? Curious about the performance

Played on PS4 and XB1... was damn good. Did have an occasional red bar mess up a lobby but that was maybe once or twice.

Have bought every COD since MW in the first week and this will be the first one I do not buy at all. I really thank Treyarch for making the beta so I could make that decision.

Out of nowhere I am getting some hype for a new CoD game. I guess it's the fact that CoD games are generally solid and I know what I'm getting.

Very exited for this game. Have a question maybe someone can answer. I preorded the digital version from amazon. I know if you order it from the ps4 store the preload has started so it can be played right at 1200.

When will it start for people who ordered from amazon? Will I have to wait until 1200, get the code and download the game? Thanks.

Thanks again to both of you. My wallet does not share the same gratitude though.

Lol! No prob. I feel you... i have to buy two copies now that we just finished our gaming room... the girlfriend and i play side-by-side on our own monitors and PS4s. Ugh, at least she doesn't like Halo... only had to buy one copy lol.

Time to pull out the good ol' CoD cycle. ;)

I was a bit hyped last year to play AW because the Kevin Spacey trailers were very cool. Played through the SP campaign, it was all right but nothing really memorable. I thought Titanfall was more fun as a MP game.

Played the BO3 beta on triple systems a few weeks ago - ps4, xbone, and PC. Found it ok, but again the wall climbing aspects felt "slower" than Titanfall and the TTKs felt insanely fast compared to something like Destiny or Battlefield.

I have BO3 on preorder but it feels just like AW is gonna be - I will play the SP campaign, play a week or two of MPs, trade the game in, and never touch it again. I just sorta enjoy Destiny, Titanfall, and Battlefield more than CODs style. Dunno really why.

The new live action trailer was cool for COD but again didn't really make me hype to get the game, and I wasn't even sure I had pre ordered until I checked my bestbuy account.

I hope we see Halo 5 player numbers before/after the release of BO3

I really hope Halo 5 holds a good player base.

First one I've been excited about in years. The Beta was fantastic, and it's the first one that has had me itching to play more since the first Black Ops.

That sounds well worth the price though. Will be lots of fun for both of you I am sure!

To all of those who act like it's embarrassing for the industry to have Call of Duty one of the most popular AAA games, I'll just say this:

I used to think the same way. I've played every Call of Duty from Modern Warfare 2, onward, and along the entire way I would make fun of not only myself for being engulfed by the FPS craze and Call of Duty, but the industry as a whole. As a result I never really appreciated some of the much better Call of Duty titles as I should have. I played multiplayer endlessly and would always say, "This game sucks. It's fucking shit. It's garbage." But then I began to realize how asinine that sounded since I was always playing it! So I started to back up little by little until I stopped playing almost entirely.

Now that I can look upon the series in retrospect because I haven't played Call of Duty in over half a year (longest stretch for me since 2009), I can appreciate the IP that much more. I can't make fun of it because it's one of the only FPS games that does nearly everything right, from campaign to multiplayer (especially multiplayer). These games are well polished and Black Ops 3 looks to be just as good, if not better, than the last few Call of Duty titles. Treyarch are mighty fine developers and their Black Ops series proves just that.

I'm no longer on the wagon to hate on Call of Duty just because it's popular. Doing so would prove futile and I'd be completely wrong. Sure, we get yearly installments of this series, and there may be growing fatigue, but the fact remains that Call of Duty, specifically Black Ops, is one of the most consistent FPS brands out there for good reason. I can't wait to get in on this when I buy a new PS4.

I don't see the hype, and I played the beta. The whole time I was playing it, felt like Titanfall jr., cept a lot less inspired mechanically.

I didn't play much of the beta but what I did play I enjoyed. I'll be picking it up on Friday and it'll be the first CoD I've gotten on day 1 since Black Ops 2. Wouldn't say I'm super hyped though.

I'm probably in the minority who loved AW, so the similarities in BO3 combined with the good experiences I had with BO2 makes this my most anticipated game in a long time.

AW is easily my favourite COD, and I'm a bit sad it now comes to an end.

I wouldn't call myself excited for the game, but I'm definitely getting it next year at a reduced price. I haven't been interested in CoD since Black Ops, and I haven't liked a CoD game since 4.

This is another thing. I have to admit that AW was very well made and that its multiplayer, although not the best, was pretty good. My issue was - which really isn't an issue - that I wasn't getting normal K:D ratios of 3.0 or higher as I normally would in previous Call of Duty titles, so I deemed the multiplayer shit because I was capping at a K:D ratio of 2. But after spending time away from the series, I've realized how ridiculous my obsession with K:D ratios was and that AW's multiplayer was nowhere near as bad as I made it out to be (although it's still one of my least favorites).

This isnt a therapy group : D

But yeah, I think I'm this hyped for BO3 thanks to taking such a long break too.

I never had that hate for being popular on CoD tho. In a lot of other things maybe, but not on CoD, because I played it and I know I had great fun.

BO3 seems like the perfect time to come back.
