Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

So I finally got the game's LE from iam8bit, but I have yet to receive the steam code -_-

i actually just treated myself to the ps4 le (from i am 8 bit)as an early christmas present to myself (my backlog cries). was wondering how long it took to get the code. the site made it sound like it would be emailed out immediately but it seems that is not the case. amazing collector's edition though. beats the shit out of the lame statue craze we are going through.

I just played this for the first time this morning. Holy crap. I think I'm in love (at least until it gets so difficult that my old man reflexes fail me, hopefully it lets me wade into the pool). It's like a cyberpunk Zelda. The intro cutscene was like something out of Heavy Metal (the mag or original movie). I even find myself walking the edges pushing and slashing against everything like the legend of zelda. so glad i bought this. oh, and i read somewhere that east, north, west, south, center is the best way to progress (i know you can go whichever way you want but south). does this sound right.

Go wherever you want.

But if you want a recommendation, go north, east, west, then south. I feel like north is rather easy compared to east and especially west.

thanks for the tip. the only thing that concerns me is i've read that the north boss can be a bitch and is much easier with the shotgun you get from going east. but i may take your advice.

Glad you are enjoying it, to me it is my Game of the Year and I am not even a fan of Zelda ( Although Breath of the Wild looks good). Once it got it's hooks in me I couldn't put the game down. I would personally go east first because the Shotgun is the best weapon in the game IMO and getting it as soon as possible really made the game really enjoyable for me.

I love the concept of the game and the art/combat but it is obtuse as FUCK to the point where I almost want to put it down

My friend is the same he just can't do it. We did a share play (i've finished the game) and I cleared out some of the east and boss for him. He was amazed!

I think you really just need to be patient and take your time. As soon as it clicks you'll love it.

I'm in the north right now and I talked to a viking looking dude who revealed 4 purple thingies on my map. I tried to go to the southern most one and I hit two purple pillars with no discernible way of progressing.

And I can't even tell what the currency is supposed to be or how to get it lol.

Edit: oh if a 60 fps patch is coming to the bae ps4 I guess I can hold off a few weeks before playing more. Still though doesn't change my personal issues with it.

Can you make dash be L1? I have been trying to find information about the control scheme of this game since it's on sale but from what I have seen L1 is heal but I'm more used to L1 being dash. Also, do you use the D-pad or joystick to move the character?

Edit: To anwser my own question you can't change the control scheme and you can only move with the Joystick.

OK, after seeing GAF always mention this, I thought it was some sidescroller.

Now I hear it compared to Zelda. Can someone tell me is that true? Dungeons with puzzles and bosses? Overworld to explore? Neat side quests (loved these in Oracle of Seasons)?

I think people compare it to Zelda in the overworld feel of it and, in some tiny way, the combat. There aren't really any puzzles or side quests. There are bosses.

It's a tough game to describe. It has the overhead view similar to Zelda, and it absolutely does not hold your hand - you need to figure out what to do on your own. The combat is difficult, but I wouldn't call it similar to Dark Souls.

It's a fantastic game. It has an atmosphere that it creates through color and music and everything else. The game basically says "well, you're in this world now. Figure it out." I love it.

I'm not really thinking this game is good. Is there more to it when you progress and unlock more moves? Because the dash doesn't feel great to do, slashes feel lethargic, and I'm getting really pissed off at being crushed against the wall by these stupid moving blocks in the northern area.

You get more moves, but no, the timing doesn't change. But you will most likely get use to it and get much better at it.

Also, use guns.

For anyone still curious about the game, to me it feels like a mix of Link to the Past and Bloodborne like combat. Focus on timing dodge correctly, using your melee weapon, and occasional gun. Mix in gorgeous art and animation, lots of secrets, and Disaterpiece soundtrack and you have one of the best games of 2016.

Someone talk me out (or into if you must) of opening my iam8bit limited edition. My intention is to keep it sealed, but it has been tempting me ever since it came in the mail a few weeks ago. For those unaware, it is a mock up of a super Nintendo copy of HLD. The box is amazing and I'm dying to rip the plastic off and check out the cartridge inside. I'm tempted to buy another one so I can open this one. Crazy I know. I'll try and post a link to it but I'm on my phone, so wish me luck.

If the cartridge is real, works, and you have a SNES? Do it ! I'd love to see that 24 pager of art work and the map I bet is spectacular.

Put it all back in after you huff that fresh game smell hard.

Nah, the cartridge isn't playable. That would be amazing if it was. The map almost justifies it. Pretty sure I'm going to open it. And there is no smell like new game smell. Love it.

A:what's the least difficult first route
B: best first upgrade?

Exploration and the boss are the easiest in the east, but the enemies are projectile heavy so general combat can be tough without the projectile deflect upgrade. Without projectile deflect, general combat is easiest in the north.

Best first upgrades are probably the projectile deflect or the chain dash, though you'll need to learn the timing on the latter in order to make good use of it.

Question, without spoiling too much: When you start the endgame, is that it? I still have monoliths & keys to find, but I've been playing long enough that'd I like to at least finish the story. So will going through the endgame roll the credits or can I still do stuff in the world?

That's it. There's nothing to get in the last area, but after you beat the game, you can reload your save, which will drop you off right before you went into the final area.

Are there any ques on the timing for the dash?

Not really. You have to just learn a timing. Once it gets going you can hit it faster, but if you mash too much it can also screw it up.

Props to anyone who can do the 1000 dashes without screwing up in the shop keep room. I got to 360 some before my finger gave out.

Just got 1.03 on PS4

Notes direct from PS4

- New Boss rush mode
- New trophies
- New difficulty (newcomer)
- 60 FRAMES PER SECOND
- Bug fixes

Yeahh buddyyyyyyy

Did the Xbox One version get the patch too?

I finished two areas and took a break. It might be time to get back.

Game sorta petered out for me when it became a walk around the edges of the map to find hidden passageways for me. As much as I loved the music there wasn't enough of it and it didn't have enough movement. Worth the sale price for sure.

Best tip I found was to turn off sound when you have sections that require chain dashing. Otherwise it's hard to do more than two or three. The sound is somehow off to me and throws my timing out completely but with sound off I have been able to do at least a hundred in the dash arena.

I'm currently trying to 100% the game & this is very lovely to see. What are the new trophies?

I'm the opposite. I use the sound as my timing cue, like I'm playing a musical instrument.

North for sure is the easiest route to start I found. Also re: secrets, keep tabs on a certain marker, usually on the ground near the entrance to one. Once you have an eye for it, you can easily spot invisible walls and other hidden routes to collectibles without fumbling into them with wall clinging.

I just finished this last night, left feeling mediocre.

The difficulty is pretty trash; the combat is decent enough, but that fact that everything kills you in two hits (and you are often surrounded in small areas) is baffling.

I don't even know if there was a story, I get that they were going for a no dialogue thing but all I got out of it was that my dude has a cold and I collected some triangles to fight a shadow for some reason.

I guess those tablets strewn about are in a "fake language" like Fez? Well, I'll never know what they said, not going to bother with that trash, there's no reason to.

I wanted to like this, and I think I did, but it feels like it just missed the mark.
