So the first time I played R3, I'd basically tuned out the music since it R1/R2 wasn't anything particularly special, but replaying this on Steam, the music's actually really good compared to the first two ReBirths/first two games.
The endings are mostly shuffling shares around. Just make a savestate and get yourself the different endings by using the colloseum. But do Conquest before Holy Sword!
I have a question regarding the DLCs for Re;Birth 1 in Steam, are they necessary or not? Asked in the Steam sale thread but didn't get an answer so I figured this would be the place...
This will be my first Neptunia game if so, please don't hit.
I played the game with all DLC enabled from the get-go, but..
I think the additional characters are really nice to have for variety. I had loads of fun fighting with Plutia / Peashy and can't imagine playing without. If I remember correctly, Histy isn't unlocked until later on in the game and as a result I barely used her, so maybe pass on her for now and consider later. Hard to say whether the characters are necessary but I'd certainly recommend.
Not so sure if the additional content packs are essential to start with. I just felt overwhelmed with the number of quests / plans / colosseum battles in the game and skipped the majority of them. Some battles etc. will make your life easier but not knowing precisely what each pack contains makes it difficult to know whether to recommend or not. The increased level limits are good to have for late-to-end-game though; so maybe consider leaving these until later as well and then getting them as you need, until you get fed up of the post-game activities.
Bought the characters and one dungeon in Rebirth 1. The characters are nice and fun to use but if you expected actual story scenes with them, expect to be dissapointed. Think of them as a preview for when they appear in Rebirth 3 (still playing rebirth 2 and I've yet too see Plutia and Peachy, Histoires is a optional character unlocked in game). I will say this, if you plan to do all the achievments the dungeon DLC's will make your life much easier for doing the Money achievement.....it's the only one I'm missing so I can platinum the game and I got burnt out on it. I'll get back to it eventually and buy the other 2 dungeons to finish it.
Since the DLC is cheap (on psn at least) I would say get them if possible.
I'm making a guide for Extreme Dimension Tag Blanc vs Excessively Long Game Titles and could really use the help of anyone else who has the game to do multiplayer. Hit me up with a DM, tweet (@sirtaptap) or PSN request to Barakku (please state you're from nepgaf at least). Not sure I'll be checking the thread too often so one of those methods is preferred.
As for Blanc Game impressions, it seems it is very strictly a multiplayer game and the Story section is basically training/an excuse to cram the comedic dialog in there. Story Mode basically plays like a more straightforward Nep U with less location variety (but bigger locations), extremely short levels and only one real boss. They held back multiple locations, normal enemies and all but one of the Monster Hunter bosses for multiplayer. This, of course, complicates matters for those of us outside of Japan that want to play all of it.
I could also use the help of anyone who 100%'d Victory 2, my V2 guide could use some help specifically for hidden item collection--WTF is the symbol attacks in a row requirement? I can't get it to trigger. Hoping to finish that guide before V2's english release. If you have suggestions for any of my guides of course feel free to let me know.
I'll start on a guide/menu translations for Sega Hard Girls once I get it, next week at the earliest I'm guessing.
Since it's been a while here's some Neptunia spam swag to catch up.
I got the 2012 and 2013 CC2 anniversary books officially from Cyberconnect 2! Still missing the Happy Birthday Box because Amazonjp doesn't ship it to the US.
I was going to get the English PP limited edition to complete my Vita limited edition set until I noticed the Japanese set was a bit better and much cheaper.
Yeah there's like 3 brick wall bosses in story mode in Rebirth 1...there's really nothing like it in any of the other games. I REALLY wish they'd go back and patch it because no matter how old it is, it's the starting point of the series. Just nerf 3 bosses people, seriously.I know multiple people who have had their first impressions of the series soured because they gave up or tried too hard on these bosses.
Serious question......is Vert always OP good in every game? She is beastly in Rebirth 1,2 and U. Is it the same for the rest of the games? Or am I just being biased here?

Basically yes. Lots of hits on normal attacks which is always good (either for SP or EXE), only magic user of the main CPUs (plutia is OP for near identical reasons), Kinestra Dance is simply amazing, Spiral Break is great with all it's debuffs (nerfed a bit in Victory 2). But in V2 she's extra OP due to certain bosses basically requiring elemental damage to hurt and Vert being by far the easiest source of it among the cast after the Twins.
Noire is usually great as well, with normal attacks that paralyzed/poison, tons of debuffs and great AOE on Infinity Slash, minor access to elemental skills. Plutia is straight up OP with too-high damaging normals and a cheap super damaging SP skill--I think enemies must have lower mdef as magic is a commonality between Vert and Plutia.
She's also five times as silent in English!
I disagree since I just can't bear anyone's voices in the subbed version, like ultra nasally Noire and helium based Nepgear. Also I think there's just a difference in how personality is brought across, because I feel everyone is far more generic in the subs.
Of course I'll still take voices I dislike over complete silence since the dubs are so incomplete. I'm glad the PC versions let you open the menu and switch between subs/dubs on the fly.
Welcome back SirTapTap. It's been too long.
Sadly I can't help you with your searches. Have you considered using the Japanese wikis?
This isn't always true, after all she's first to really join you and stick around in ReBirth 1 after Noire leaves the party.
Anyway, as stated above magic damage is pretty strong in the series and Vert is a mixed fighter/magician with strong debuffs and long multi hit attacks to build EXE. VII did nerf her a bit by making some of her attacks rely on Strength instead of INT for example.

Matter of taste I guess. I mean, Neptunia's humor is basically self-aware, tropes-pushed-to-the-extreme, something which I don't think made the transition to English too well. Mind you, I think Neptune's actual dialogue is pretty well captured, but I feel that the VA suffers from "oh is this one of those toon games, listen to me try too hard to toon it up ehehe" syndrome.
Also I'm probably rather biased because the only two franchises with VN/bust-style presentation that I can tolerate with English voices are Disgaea (because it's so bubbly and exaggerated in a completely different way) and Atelier. No idea why for the latter.
Otherwise, it's like watching Bollywood movies with an English dub. Misses the mark completely for me.
I muted Plutia, Ram and Compa in Blanc Game because there's no English dub. Can't deal with the squeaky or desus. Only voice I like better in Japanese is actually Uni's Black Sister form because the english VA just...doesn't do that voice for some reason. Not a fan of squeaky higher pitched Japanese "young girl" voices, though the lower pitch ones (Uzume, Tamsoft) can be pretty good.
I really don't get why people dislike Eng Nepgear...Japanese Nepgear is almost the exact same pitch. I swear their "jump!" samples are almost the same.
I really do think it's largely a factor of what you hear first though. I played Neptunia first in English and only the limited dubbing bothers me (really hope they take this seriously in VII). But I can't really imagine Senran Kagura working as well. But SK, oddly, doesn't have any Japanese VAs that I can't stand aside from "I am 6 years old" minori.
Got my Dengeki Neptunia issue (the 5th anniversery thing), definitely worth it. Lots of nice full page art, sticker set, big poster, and a bunch of tidbits about the games I of course can't read. Only 1800yen + shipping of course, Amazon.jp ships it international.
Nice, calendar looks great. Not sure I could resist putting those stickers to good use. Looks like it's 2675yen + shipping now that it's been released, for anyone interested.
Looks like Noire figure is released and on it's way, hopefully arrive before Xmas. Was in stock earlier @Ami but looks like it sold out fast. Black Heart figure still showing stock.
You're definitely right in general. Although my personal edge-case anecdote is I played half of the original Neptunia in English half a decade ago, way before I started picking up Japanese due to work.
maybe it also has to do with association that way considering how terrible the original Neptunia was ehehehe
According to IFI it's "on the table".
I wonder if there's some difficulty since the SeHa girls were never introduced in the West in any proper capacity. But really it's only been out for a week and a half now.
Anyway, wake up people! IFI had an event yesterday (seems like people had more fun there than at the VGAs).
MegaTagmension should be a word and I'll try to use it in regular conversation from now on. Pleased at the announcements, though I'm probably more interested in seeing Trillion impressions from their PSX booth over the next few days.
It'll probably be a little while before they announce that...I was surprised they announced Blanc Game so early, but the Vita's kind of out of games for them to localize for now so it makes sense I guess. I started an import guide for Neptunia vs Sega Hard Girls btw. Aside from not understanding certain UI stuff early on and one awkward road block the game is pretty easy to brute force your way through.
Why is the Sega Saturn fight by far the hardest thing you can possibly encounter at that point in the game
.
Also found this Japanese wiki for the game which while also incomplete, has some stuff I don't yet, like trophies and classes. Does anyone know how to get all the classes? The wiki has classes I've never found and I've gotten all endings and beaten all available missions, unless some classes are NG+ only. Which would be silly, because you've exhausted all difficulty in the game by the the time you beat the final boss once, and it doesn't have that awesome NG+ from Victory 2 that lets you pick which aspects carry over.
I take it IF and Fellistella do not cooperate at all on their respective games? Basically all improvements in Victory 2 are missing from even the latest remakes and even Nep vs SeHa. And a couple of the improvements in Rebirth 3 would have been nice in V2 (fuck the SP system and Stella though)
It also just generally doesn't feel like they put the money/time/effort into the side games they could, because I know Tamsoft can make more satisfying combat, better sound design etc. than Blanc Game/Nep U show. The sound design really takes the punch out of the big bosses.
I got my Noire and Blackheart as well, I didn't actually mean to order the crystal thingy along with Noire, but it's actually really nice so I guess I don't regret it. Waiting for my new curio case to set them up.

"Megatagmension" (this not a word) Blanc for Spring:
Honestly they should really just kill the "xdimension" part of the names at this point and just start with Neptunia: Words. Neptunia is recognizable enough, the names are always long, and they've gotten really weird with the dimension stuff.
Also the planeptune/Neptune wank is getting kind of annoying at this point. Taping Neptune on Blanc Game's title and the SeHa game (while sensible alone) is getting really excessive when Neptune/Planeptune already have major over focus in every game (Victory 2 in a way does this better, but it also has about a third of the game with only planeptune CPUs).

I hate stickers, I WANT to like stickers but I can't stand the thought of using one then getting rid of whatever I stick it on, or wanting to put it on something else, messes with my collector's mindset. All sticker sheets should come with one sheet to use and one sheet to keep.
Might be it, a lot of people judge the series for the first game. And I'm sure it's as bad as people say it is because plenty of super fans have said so to me too, but it's a bit much that the whole series gets painted for it. Especially when the humor/characters are the focus, but often get ignored.
Looking at this, I think Neptunia won the postgame event vote that ran in September, but they're still gonna add an event for the SeHa girls anyway (coming next week as DLC).
Well, that's that then. I had felt that the only thing still holding me back from jumping into GOG was the absence of Hyperdimension Neptunia. I primarily play JRPGs and I don't think there is a greater sign of a platform being welcoming to JRPGs than having Hyperdimension Neptunia. I feel its the series which best represents the quirky side of the genre and if you don't let in the quirky side you end up with just the usual stuff.
Good ending makes way more sense than the true ending of Victory though. Obviously victory ending spoilers:
Based on most Histoires Coire is at least, what, a foot tall maybe? Gets trapped in a bottle? The fuck kind of bottle is that? Also the thing where she, you know, transports between dimensions freely. But not while in a bottle. And Croire's "What? No. Fuck you." to Neptune in the Good Ending is just. Perfect.
Unless they changed that to make more sense in Rebirth 3. Haven't finished it actually. Played too many remakes in one hear I guess, and the return of the SP system from Mk2 didn't really excite me.
I think Victory 2 retcons that somewhat though.
Best I can tell "kid neptune" is now "adult neptune" and she has some sort of ridiculous magic book for some reason. Still OP but sort of makes more sense I guess
I recommend playing the others too, Victory is pretty good but kinda sucks at showing the non-Neptune CPUs, especially Vert. Vert is for some reason a crybaby and is insecure about her boobs which is...pretty much the exact opposite of every other representation of her. I blame Mary Sue. And it's the first game that goes way too hardcore on the "lonely heart" BS, even if that one scene where she's like "every time I don't call her it gets harder to do it" is pretty damn real.
Also Neptune/Noire is such an awful ship. Neptune/anyonewithabrain is a pretty awful ship though tbh. Her Thing is being a funny moron, don't know why they keep trying to cram some shipping fodder in there.
Looking at this, I think Neptunia won the postgame event vote that ran in September, but they're still gonna add an event for the SeHa girls anyway (coming next week as DLC).
Oh, THAT'S why that scene had none of the hard girls. And arg, DLC, means I can't actually get it, wish they'd just patch.
I heard someone say that some Japanese players complained Nep vs SeHa feels "unfinished", is there more detail on that? I can sorta believe it, the difficulty ramp is a bit wonky, there's very few bosses and only THREE map bosses, and almost all the Class quests have almost the same item requirements. Also, a Japanese wiki lists 4 classes per char but I've only found 2. Might just not have understood something because Japanese though.
The game isn't bad, but it's definitely a bit awkward here and there and not a full-force effort like V2. Blanc Game feels very neutered next to Estival Versus too, I know Tamsoft can do better. Even if they're side games I wish they'd put a bit more into it. Especially since I believe this is the first non-F2P game to feature the SeHa girls.
Nep vs SeHa does do some really cool stuff though, love the turn system and the (story/structure spoilers)
time loop
deal. But it feels really experimental and you fairly quickly run out of actual difficulty after you manage to climb over one brick wall of a boss.
Also, death to having to set skills to use them. I get it for the normal attack combos, but it's super annoying to have to baby sit your characters skill lists. Especially weird since I don't think a mainline Neptunia game has done this since Mk2?
I think the main IF team needs to peek in and smack Fellistella with a ruler when they go backwards on some of the game design/UX improvements the main series has already.
Reb 3 SP is broken as shit though. Cave gains more SP than she spends with an already OP skill. The games have always been very focused on multiple hits over single large shots and IMO the Reb3 SP system makes it way too prominent (mk2 did so too, mostly because of it's extremely high damage mixed with extremely low damage cap). Also the unlocking EXE drives by using 100 skills, especially in a game where skills cost real time to regen, was a poor way to go.
IMO Victory 2 has the right idea with the "renewable resource" crap. EXE meter instead of refilling SP, and EXE isn't an I Win button, it's just a slightly stronger skill with more cooldown and more buildup time.
In fact victory 2's normal/sp/exe attacks are oddly well balanced to the point you can deal very similar damage with a normal attack compared to an SP skill, so SP/EXE are mostly used for their AOE or special effects. Which is pretty cool IMO. "EXE = I Win" was always lame, especially in a series that isn't particularly difficult.
I didn't think EXE skills were going to be that powerful till I got Yellow Heart/Purple Heart EXE and they did over 150k in damage and MAGE's EXE did something close to that amount.
Can't say I'm excited about that LE, only really want the OST out of it to be honest, US store says $85 so can see it being £75 or something close to that. Not worth it to me personally, although if somehow it's low enough I may be tempted to bite just to get that OST. Plushie of Nep or another character I would have been fine with though mind.
It seems that poor fish has provoked a similar reaction in a lot of people. Now he's getting some hate before even being in his first game. Oh the fishmanity!

I feel like IF themselves are just big fans of the fish. At PSX one of the VII buttons they passed out was of the fish.
As for the Gematsu thing.... many people feel threatened for either PC taking over, and something something "my exclusiveeeeee!!" something something. Getting worked up over nothing that will change the industry, but bring more people in. Ah wells what can ya do.
I'm curious because I have a friend who has decided to additionally use games for practicing Chinese and the reason this game in particular stands out to me is because as far as I know its the first time the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise is getting a release in Chinese and if the translation were to properly localize it and use Chinese gaming community memes and such I think my friend would find it interesting.
