I am a repeat offender. ( AKA: I've bought 10 versions of the same game)

I've done this for a couple of games...

I bought FFVII for:
PSX: 3 times, because I lost the first one and the second copy's disc 1 broke.
PSN: 2 times, once on my friends account before I had a PS3 and then on my Vita.
PC: 3 times, OG, Squenix and Steam versions.

I bought FFX for:
PS2: 4 times, traded my first copy to GS then wanted it back, lost it, bought another one and bought one for my friend.
PS3: 1 time
Vita: 2 times, cause I sold my copy to a friend and then wanted it back.

I bought Persona 4 for:
PS2: 3 times, sold it the first time because I just couldn't enjoy it back then, bought it again later and loved it then bought a copy for my sister.
Vita: 2 times, digital and physical.

I'm sure there are more but those come to mind first.

Yeah I'm pretty bad with Resident Evil also, I own almost every USA release of each game except for 6, Operation Raccoon City, and the recent remaster of REmake. I'll probably buy the rest of them out of habit anyway. There's something oddly fulfilling about having over 10 copies of Resident Evil 2 stare at you.

It is hands down my favorite series and I do actually play through the various ports of the mainline games to get a feel for any differences.

Next would be various fighting games, I own all the Marvel related releases from Capcom in particular.

Super Mario World

Original Super Nintendo cart
Super Mario All Stars/World cart
Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World cart
Super Mario World VC Wii/Wii U
Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World VC Wii U

i don't understand what drives people to do this, you guys could be buying nice food or even alcohol with that money

Alcohol and boredom are probably how I ended up with All Stars/World and Advance 2 Wii U.

Hmmm would I rather have a bunch of copies of the same game or a bunch of copies of different games. Sorry OP but I don't understand. Especially since they're just modern disc based games and not something collectible.

I've bought Heroes of Might and Magic 3 many times because I kept losing the discs. Exact same versions most of the time too.

Heroes 3 Restoration of Erathia - Retail (3DO)
Heroes 3 Complete - Retail (Sold Out software)
Heroes 1-4 Collection - Retail (Ubisoft)
Heroes 3 & 4 Double Pack - Retail (Sold Out software)
Heroes V Complete Edition - Retail (Ubisoft)

Heroes 3 Complete - Digital (GOG)
Heroes 3 HD - Digital (Steam pre-order)

I only have the big Heroes V CE and the 3+4 bargain bin pack now. All on PC of course.

I also bought Diablo 2 around 4 or 5 times because the installation and play discs were notoriously shitty.

I only double diped some games

RE1 (PS1 Pc)
RE4 (GC PC)
FFX (PS2 PSV)
FFXIII (PS3 PC)
FFXIII-2 (PS3 PC)
MGS2 (PS2 PSV)
Persona 4 Golden (digital, physical) I will probably buy the LE and Ps2 version of the game it's my favorite game of all time
Demon Souls (digital, physical)
Mass effect trilogy (PS3 PC)
Football Manager 2014 (Pc PSV)
Gta San Andreas (PS2 PC)
Hotline Miami (PS PC)
Jet Set Radio (PSV Pc)
Mirror's Edge (PS3 PC)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3 PC)
NFS Most Wanted (PSV digital PSV physical)

That's with counting games I sold and rebought later.

I've had a couple of GOG/Steam double dips, and a couple of Vita games I wound up getting PC duplicates of via bundles and gifts, but my personal worst was Need for Speed Most Wanted: 360 at launch, PS3 when it went on PS+, Vita when it was £4.

Kingdom Hearts 1
Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix

Kingdom Hearts CoM
Kingdom Hearts Re:CoM

Kingdom Hearts 2 JP
Kingdom Hearts 2 US
Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix +

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep JP
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep US
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix

And then of course I bought the HD collections on the PS3.
If they come out with a PS4 collection I'll probably buy again

Done the same thing for a few FF games too, namely FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFXII and recently FFIV.

I've bought three copies of KOTOR (PC CD-ROM, Xbox and Steam) and I sadly have never played any of them.

I've done the same thing with Metal Gear Solid 2 onwards: I bought it for PS2, The collection (also for PS2), the PS3 HD version and then the Vita version.

Thats crazy, i had bought a few games out of "support", sometimes i like them, sometimes i dont.

I wanted to buy a digital version of Bayonetta 2 (and was going to gift it, but its kinda difficult to do that :/) but had difficulties with the hard drive and then all the money on my bank account was stolen, so im dealing with that now.

Between Virtual Console, 3D Classics, Steam and the annual Sonic Collection games I'm pretty sure I own StH 1 more than 5 times.

Also Super Mario Bros (original, deluxe version, gba version, 3DS VC version, All-Stars on SNES and Wii if they count).

Edit: I guess I also own Super Mario World three times. 2 GBA versions (I got my original GBA stolen with World in it so I bought it again) and one on Wii VC.

I own multiple copies of a few games, but the game that I own the most copies of has to be Sonic the Hedgehog.

Original Genesis version
Sonic Mega Collection (GC)
Sega Genesis Collection (PSP)
Xbox Live Arcade version
Sonic and Sega Genesis Collection (360)
Steam copy
Sonic the Hedgehog HD (Android)

7 copies is the most I have. The rest of the duplicates I own usually come from wanting the pc version of console games via Steam sales or humble bundles.

i have
Metal Gear solid 3 on PS2, PS3, PSVITA and 3DS
Uncharted 2 (1 normal and 1 goty) im still looking for the first edition of uncharted 2 with the old ps3 box layout
Uncharted 3 (1 normal and 1 goty)

Try embracing the idea that none of this shit matters and everything around you will turn to dust.

Go spend that money on raising your children or traveling around the globe or somehow enhancing your knowledge.

And here I was feeling stupid for having three versions of Borderlands 2 that I have barely played because I have no one to play it with.

I'm the same with Metal Gear, i own every US physical and digital copy of every Metal Gear game, LE, and Bonus dvds. I don't even own a psp or Vita and I have the games for those systems too

I have a ton of stuff I love that I double dipped on digitally, rebought for versions, or triple dipped for platforms. My whole physical collection pre-2012 is gone, though, so yeah why wouldn't I have digital ones or newer releases/ports/remakes etc?

Never for the same system but I've bought pc version and console version of Dark Souls and Arkham City. I considered doing it for Dark Souls 2 because of the delay but it was only a month. I might do it for diablo 3 because of how different the console version is from the pc.

Somehow I own every version of Arkham Asylum. (Played it on PS3 initially. When I bought Arkham City on 360 at Walmart, it came with a 360 version of Asylum free. Someone gifted me the PC version during a Steam sale.)

Lemme see, off the top of my head:

5 copies of Project X Zone. (day 1 LE and digital for me, 2 physical copies for family, and 1 physical for a friend)
4 copies of Ace Attorney 1-3 (DS, WiiWare, iOS, 3DS)
2 copies of Mario Kart DS
2 copies of Super Robot Taisen Original Generation GBA (1 boxed, 1 loose)
2 copies of Endless Frontier (1boxed, 1 loose)
2 copies of Mugen no Frontier EXCEED (1 LE, 1 standard)
2 copies of Pokemon Silver
2 copies of Pokemon Emerald
2 copies of Mega Man ZX (1 Japanese import, 1 English)
2 copies of Mega Man X4
2 copies of Mega Man X Collection (1 GC, 1 PS2)
A banillion copies of Sonic 1-3&K cause that's all SEGA re-releases
Two of Star Fox 64 3D (1 physical, 1 digital)

The only time I've done this is through ps+ or humble bundles. I've never knowingly purchased the same game on a different platform or purchased a remake when i owned the original.

Apparently I'm in the minority in this thread. I would consider it for a full blown graphics update for ps1 classics, but nothing else.

The only games I've purchased multiple times are:

Resident Evil 4 (GCN, and then for Wii as a gift)
Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Xbox, 360 XBLA)
Capcom vs SNK 2 (GCN, Xbox)
Half Life 2 (Xbox, 360 Orange Box)
TMNT: The arcade game (SNES, 360 XBLA)
Street Fighter II (all for SNES, Xbox SF Anniversary collection)

I have a soft spot for MGS2/3

MGS2 - 3 times (vanilla, Substance, HD Collection)
MGS3 - 3 times (vanilla, Subsistence, HD Collection)

I will also probably get the Legacy Collection sometime in the future.

I purposefully skip remakes of games I already own for the most part.

Only ones I've got multiple copies of...

Smash 64 (N64, Wii VC)
Wind Waker (GCN, HD remake)
LOZ: OoT (Wii VC, 3D remake)
LOZ: Oracle of Seasons (GBC, 3DS VC)
Super Mario World (SNES & Wii VC)
Super Mario 64 (N64, DS)

Only titles I've bought multiple of on purpose. There's a few on Steam like Cave Story, but a lot of those I have on Steam because it came packed in for super cheap with other titles and they wouldn't let me gift the code to someone.

I've only double dipped a couple of times and it was mostly because it was crazy cheap during a Steam Winter or Summer sale.

Although I'm going to be triple dipping once the new version of State of Decay comes out.

Fuck...I don't even want to speculate on how many different versions of Super Mario Bros I have that I spent money on.

Or Street Fighter 2 and its family. Or Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, for that matter.

Or Tetris.

Or Mega Man 1 through 6.

:(

Between the 1996 original and the 2002 remake, I've bought the first Resident Evil twelve times (actually it's eleven because the remaster was cross buy on digital).

Resident Evil 1996 PSX (JP)
Resident Evil 1996 Saturn (JP)
Resident Evil 1996 Saturn (EU)
Resident Evil 1996 PC (EU)
Resident Evil 1996 PSX PSN (JP)
Resident Evil 1996 PSX PSN (US)
Resident Evil Deadly Silence (EU)
Resident Evil 2002 Gamecube (EU)
Resident Evil 2002 Wii (EU)
Resident Evil 2002 Remaster PS3 (JP)
Resident Evil 2002 Remaster PS3 PSN (EU)
Resident Evil 2002 Remaster PS4 PSN (EU)

It's a pretty cool game I like it.

Dark Souls - 2 times (three if you count the dlc) for PS3 and PC.

Dark Souls 2- times for PS3 and PC. Will probably buy a third time when sins of solar sun or whatever its called comes out on PC.

Resident Evil 4- 3 times (PS2, PS3, and PC)

Mass Effect Series- I Have two copies of Mass Effect 1 and 2 (PS3 and PC).

Diablo 3- Bought it on pc at launch. Then bought the ps3 version for couch co op. Bought ROS on pc and then bought Ultimate Evil edition for ps3 for some co op again. So I think that's 4.

Arkham games- Have a copy of Asylum and City on both ps3 and PC.

Borderlands - Have ps3 and pc verison of Borderlands and Borderlands 2(though I got borderlands 2 on ps3 via ps+)

Dragon Age: Origins- have PS3 and PC version.

Super Mario Bros:

GBC
SNES (All-Stars)
Wii (All-Stars)
3DS (VC)
3DS (GBC VC)

SMB2/3:
NES
SNES (All-Stars)

Sonic 1 / 2 / 3:

GCN
Xbox 360 (DL-version)
Xbox 360 (Dreamcast collection)

Ocarina of Time:

3DS

And I've only listed the games I own at least 4 times
