I am terrified of a Trump presidency

Ever since I joined NeoGA, I've never seen a thread putting the GOP in any positive light. You guys make them look like racist, bigoted, backward thinking assholes. Even seeing how people are bashing Trump left and right, some say he is not as bad as veteran republicans Like Cruz and Rubio.

That is because they ARE racist, bigoted, backwards thinking assholes. Trump's entire campaign has involved taking the Republican's racist dog whistles and replacing it with a bullhorn.

Well, what do you expect? Advocating for conservative politicians is advocating for homophobic/racist/classist policies, and advocating those is a bannable offense.

To be fair, Republicans do most of the heavy lifting themselves

But aren't Democrats have people who are also Racist and bigoted? I haven't heard a lot of good things about Hilary personally. Though Sanders seems to me like the most reasonable of them all.

I'm sorry of my questions sound stupid, but I genuinely want to know what do genuine American people think.

NeoGAF is not a representative sample of Americans, for better or...just better.

The GOP has been courting racists and bigots for decades, ever since Democrats started fighting for Civil Rights, and all the pro-segregationist and religious nutters essentially switched sides and voted Republican. It's hasn't changed much with The Tea Party and now Trump essentially being the culmination of that.

ok? what else would someone think? if you are supporting a party whose leaders are racist/bigoted what other conclusion can be drawn?

the thing is on the republican side i don't necessarily disagree with all the fiscal stuff (a lot of it i do, but not all of it) but then you have all of the social conservative shit and i just can't. if you support the republicans on social issues you ARE a racist, bigoted, backward thinking asshole. there is no other conclusion to draw.

I posted this in another thread that kinda died and no one replied, but I thought I'd post it here too because I think this thread is the perfect topic for it.

So how much merrit does this have? Formula that has accurately predicted the presidential winner since 1912 (except once--JFK) gives Trump a >96% chance of winning......

This fits "I'm terrified of a Trump presidency". Can someone tell me why I shouldn't freak out about this?

Because despite everyone saying "the math doesn't allow him a general election win" the fact is he does have a chance, so it could happen.

Better to prepare yourself now for the possibility than end up shocked later on.

He is predicting that Trump will get 54% of the popular vote.

I could go into a bunch of reasons why this model makes no sense, but I'm just going to say he's wrong.

Well, to be fair, he might get 50% of whites, and that's what, 30% of the country? He'd have to pick the rest up from more than just whites and...well, that doesn't seem very possible. In fact, if the polls are to be believed, not even half of the republicans would support him in November.

I'm always disappointed as an outsider by these US presidential elections. They get hyped up like crazy globally like they are then end of the world or the dawn of the age of Aquarius. But at the end of the day the president doesn't mean that much at all. They are swept along by world events and are limited so much by things like the senate.

Hey he might be disaster when it comes to internal USA matters but he would still be upgrade over Obama when it comes to international policy.

As long as anyone else than Bernie wins we should be ok - since Bernie looks like even bigger weakling than Obama is.

hahahahaha

Trump would be a disaster internationally.

do you not realise that the US's internal affairs are regularly disgussed around the world. The view people have on the US is largely based on those internal affairs.

People outside the US already think your police force is shite, you do a disservice to your people when it comes to healthcare and you have way bigger inequality issues than the rest of the developed world.

Okay, makes me feel a little better but I'm still concerned! That record makes me nervous, ha.

Well, the Senate is currently just as insane....so.....yeah.....

Personally I don't think Trump would do much damage to this once great country even if he wins the presidency. The Congress won't give him a easy time, not even from his GOP fellows.

It's just another 4/8 stagnant years for the United States, while the rest of the world keep moving forward.

In theory it's pretty terrifying but I really don't think the odds are in his favor. I mean, he's literally built his entire campaign around alienating huge swaths of people. The only reason he's doing well in the primaries is because those swaths of people aren't registered Republican voters and because the rest of the party is garbage too.

As a Canadian watching these events with a tinge of nervousness, I truly believe Trump is conducting one of the most elaborate, expensive social experiments of our time. He's reenacting Seinfeld's "The Opposite" to see if it will work. There's no way he would actually believe half the things he says. Either he is the dumbest man on earth, or the most fucking brilliant, in trying to expose just how many dumbasses he can get to follow him no matter what he says. "I could shoot someone on the street, and my rating would go up". I mean come on.

He won't win.

And even if he does, he'll quickly realize he can't do anything he wants to and then grow bored.

His followers are the actually scary thing.

Who knows what Trump really believes in. He would probbaly throw all the white working class under the bus too.

The damage he's caused though has been immense. Whether because he is making unacceptable behavior ok, or simply destroying the GOP.

Threatening letter sent to Donald Trump's son, Eric

A source close to the investigation said the letter had a Massachusetts postmark and warned that if Donald Trump doesn't withdraw from the race for the Republican presidential nomination -- paraphrasing -- harm will come to the kids.

The difference between a Trump presidency as opposed to Cruz or Hillary is not worth losing sleep over. Both Cruz and Hillary seem more warlike, and Hillary's handling of Libya showed that she learned absolutely nothing from Iraq. Trump has made disconcerting comments about things like going after terrorists' families, but we already have Obama who has introduced extrajudicial targeted killings (like Anwar al-Awlaki and his son) - it's not like Trump is wildly worse than the alternatives. Trump (and to a lesser extent, Cruz) would have to deal with a congress where even their own party dislikes them, and the Democrats will be outright hostile. I actually regard that as the safe alternative.

The country endured Woodrow Wilson (an extreme racist who got the country into a huge war unnecessarily) and Theodore Roosevelt (another racist and warmonger who had the populism and robust view of executive authority that people fear in Trump). A century later, those two are largely regarded as heroes by many of the same people who hate Trump.
