I believe in Phil Spencer

Remember how Phil always says he listens and wants to bring back all these shiny old franchises and then we get stuff like the Rare Pirate MMO that nobody wants, that shitty Conker Eyepet thingy for their AR glasses and the glorious return of Battletoads
as a character in Killer Instinct. Wohoooooo

Its amazing how all the time people fall for this guy and celebrate him for teasing hot stuff and then just underdilivering. Phil is a louthmouth like Don Mattrick, but hey, he sometimes answers on twitter with a maybe, so he is much better.

Even while I have to admit that he is at least way more sympathic then his predecessor. And this works like it seems.

So Rare shouldn't be allowed to make new IPs?

I agree about Conker and Battletoads though. But there's been rumors they're making a new Battletoads game due to all the hints they've given us.

They also owe us a new Conker after what they did with him. If he's not at E3, I'll be upset.

There are a lot of cringe worthy posts in here, including the thread title.

Alright guys, you heard this man, time to pack it up. also notify MS to shut down Xbox. Its all finish.

Seems you missed the past few weeks. The role of Xbox in Microsoft's strategy is much smaller these days. They are moving to Win 10 for gaming as indicated by various comments and talks, while their internal game development is focusing on a few core franchises (namely Forza, GoW, Halo, and maybe something by Rare if they don't get shut down after Sea of Thieves).

Why are you just assuming Sea of Thieves will bomb? For all we know, it could become a big franchise for MS.

i miss Peter Moore.

Peter Moore seemed like the kind of guy who would buy you a beer at a bar if you approached him, but behind closed doors at Microsoft was probably choking people to death for their fuck-ups and bullying developers into exclusivity deals.

Terrible post.

I like Phil but as a primary PC gamer I don't trust ms.

We'll see. Curious to see how gaming for win 10 will work when PC gamers have no interest in the ms vision of universal Windows apps.

I'd pefer an ipad like model. Not crazy about another 360/ps3 generation that lasts way too long. Would rather upgrade whenever I want to. And while I do have a 980m, which does pretty much everything I need it to do thus far, I like that I can at least get an external gpu via a used graphics amplifier or some thunderbolt option.
Or sell it and eat the loss.

I'll second this. Moore was their best in my opinion, by a mile. 360 circa 2005-2008 was really focused on awesome games and I've said this before but they had me questioning my PS3 purchase at that time. Peter Moore was a beast and that was reflected in the early 360 library. Spencer just feels like a continuation of the Mattrick era philosophy with games being a secondary focus to whatever they're pushing whether it was Kinect then, or Windows 10 today. Only difference between the two is that Spencer knows and does PR well while Mattrick had the charisma of a fucking WWE midcarder.

You clearly don't know what the hell you are talking about with that statement alone.

The role of dedicated Xbox hardware is marginalized, not Xbox as a brand.

I had a dream that Phil was my dad. One day I came home with a bad report card and I could see a hint disappointment on his face. He didn't scold me. He didn't let me see his deep swelling anger. He knew the subtle change in his countenance was enough. I just wanted.. I needed him to be proud. So I worked hard, I applied myself and I went from a C student to a B. As I walked home clutching my new report card to my chest I imagined the look on his face as he saw my achievement. I dreamt that he would hug me and say, "well done son, I always knew you would do it". I walked into my house and with nervous excitement approached fathers door. What would he say I thought? I almost walked right in out of excitement but remembered that dads office was off limits without permission. I knocked softly 3 times as to not annoy him too much with my interruption. Dad in his normal kind but serious tone said, "You may come in." I had very rarely been allowed access to the office so I always took a moment To marvel at the ever expanding library father had accumulated. The office had no windows and was lit exclusively by candles which was slightly unnerving in a room of wood floors filled with books. Even though he had not looked up to see who approached and even though I had not said a word he knew who entered. He said, "come in son. I assume you have a pressing matter I must attend to?" I saw him seated at a desk of mahogany with little care to even look at me. I sat in front of the desk and slid my report card in front of him. His gaze moved slightly, only enough that His eyes slightly lit up. I looked a little closer to see that his cheeks were glowing in the candlelight and his dimples looked like deep ominous shadowy caves. He did not say anything but looked up. I had never seen him like this. He had no expression. Not pride, not disappointment. Nothing. I longed that he had communicated something but nothing.. It was a hollow expression devoid of any emotion. He did not say a word. I began crying uncontrollably and fumbled to grab the report card as I stumbled out of the room without any dignity or grace.

The next day father was standing in the doorway to my room as I awoke. He was watching me while I slept. I was surprised to see him there but oddly comforted. He without any sound in his movement approached me and sat at the side of my bed clutching some old worn down pictures. He showed me pictures of a man in uniform who looked just like me. He explained that this was his father. The resemblance was striking. He explained that his father climbed pointe du hoc in the Second World War and if I was going to going to get his approval it was gonna take more than a ruddy B average grade. He said that the Spencer's are a proud family with a distinguished history and my efforts were laughable at best.

I learned an important lesson lesson that day I think.

I've just read this twice and I don't regret it at all. Maybe I'll read it once more after this post.

YT comments compare Phil with Jordan Belfort (Wolfie), wow no hyperbole there, no siree!

MS should have had Phil at the helm before they rushed the development of the X1 platform.

I think that it's the other way around. Microsoft is repositioning Xbox to cheerlead for the Windows 10 Store (and probably UWP). If it fails to do so, it's going to hurt Xbox, not Windows 10.

Why are you just assuming Sea of Thieves will bomb? For all we know, it could become a big franchise for MS.

A colourful, cartoony game on Xbox with no established franchise behind it, not sure why I should assume it will be a success. It would be shocking if it came close to the sales of Kinect Sports and would require a big shift in Microsoft's strategy.

Well, they have been pushing their mobile OS without much success for years.

The Xbox brand is not very popular outside the US this generation. Using the Xbox brand for PC gaming will probably not make it more successful.

Yes he has done some pretty good things since he was put in charge of the Xbox division, I even talked in person with a important person from 343 Industries and he said that if Spencer was in charge of the Xbox division since the conception of the Xbox One we would have a very different console and scenario.

This isn't 2007 anymore. The Xbox brand has become more friendly to colorful/cartoony family games since then. There were quite a few family friendly games that sold pretty well on the Xbox these last several years.

Plus, SoT isn't all that cartoony looking anyway. I don't see how it can't sell well if Microsoft actually put some effort in marketing it. Isn't the game supposed to be like a mixture between something like Destiny and Assasin's Creed: Black Flag? Aren't those types of games pretty popular nowadays?

So Rare shouldn't be allowed to make new IPs?

Of course they can, there are tons of other studios that could do something with a Rare IP since Phil makes it always seem like all of them are returning soon, but Rare could do something in the vain of their other games. They could do a cool shooter or a Jump N Run.

And that theres is no hype about that pirate game only confirmes that its not really that what people wanted.

I think Sea of thieves will be very very big.
It's the first MMO lite (extremely popular genre now) that not all shooting. It could be bigger than Gears or even Halo.

There's only been one trailer. No details at all past that.

People have gone apeshit over lesser, especially when it comes from a famous developer team.

The Souls Devs could record a fart and it would get millions and millions of clicks on youtube and people would make tons of threads.

Tbh, I don't think any of Rare's IPs will make people off if forums go apeshit if they were brought back. If you're talking online, there's hype for it. We just don't know anything about it.

Bigger than Halo or Gears? Ehhh. Not sure about that. But yeah, this game definitely has potential.

I just hope MS won't ignore this game just like they ignored almost all of Rare's earlier Xbox games, and that they will actually market it properly.

The trailer didn't even show all that much. We still don't really know much about this game at this point. Maybe E3 is when the real hype will start?

Also, maybe the whole "play Sea of Thieves first" contest that Rare is currently doing will shed some light on it?

Does your uncle also work at Nintendo by any chance?

Phil begins to wind down the Xbox division at the request of corporate management = Phil spencer is a god, come to absolve us of our sins, TAKE ME PHIL TAKE ME

Never go full Jonestown.

I don't know what's more funny in this thread. The people who genuinely (still) believe Phil is all that great. Or the people whose blood just boils because people seem to like him for whatever reason.

Back when he got promoted he was indeed saying and doing all the right things Xbox fans wanted to hear and see. But since then on the first party side nothing much has changed, still lacking on IP diversity and delays, delays and more delays.

His focus seems to be more Windows Store than Xbox live these days. I wouldn't be surprised if they delayed Xbox one titles so they could launch simultaneously with the PC versions.
