...which kind of sucks. Last year I was pretty good about getting home around 11:30 and being in bed by midnight. This year it doesn't matter when I get home, I don't feel like going to bed until around 2, if I get in bed before then I'll simply lie awake and probably take even longer to fall asleep. I'm sure I'm pretty conservative about my sleeping habits compared to most of this forum, but does anyone know what the hell is going on here? I get up around 8:15 every day, so it's not like I'm getting an overabundance of sleep...And I REALLY don't feel like getting up after only 6 hours.

So. I have no solution, and I don't think GAF will have one either, so what's the point of this post?

2am? pffft. i usually cant sleep until around 3-4 even when i have to wake up early. Not sure why that is. It doesn't seem to have any negative affects on me.

Yeah, I realized most people here would scoff at 2 AM. But for me it really sucks because if I'm tired in class, I'll just start staring off and not paying attention. A professor actually noticed it last week because I sit in the front and wasn't paying attention. He just stopped and stared at me for a minute before I realized it :O

Some of it might be I have my own room this year instead of a roommate...I was always cautious not to wake him up...but damn if I can find another solid reason

My sleep schedule changes constantly. Every coulple of weeks I change from going to bed around 1 or 2 A.M. to near 5 or 6 A.M. Right now I'm on the six in the morning schedule. But generally before 2 is too early for me as well, unless I have specific reason to have to be up around 8 or so.

Sounds like you may have a serious problem that needs a doctor's attention. If you'd prefer to give other remedies a try first, there's always drinking. 5 servings of alcohol 2 hours prior to your desired bedtime.

Additionally, you can try taking NyQuil or one of the Tylenol sleeping pills. Probably better to take over-the-counter sleeping pills rather than just take medicine that has a drowsiness side-effect (eg: NyQuil, Tylenol PM). If you down a shot of NyQuil, make sure you have a good 10-12 hours of sleep....wake up any earlier than that and you will be just as groggy and dazed as if you only slept 5 hours.

Both alcohol and NyQuil will be bad for your liver in the long run, though. Use them to get back on a proper sleep schedule, then quit. If you can't get back to normal sleeping hours then you really should see a physician.

One more random tip: Don't stay up on the computer, don't play video games. Those are the two things that will keep me up until sunrise even if I'm super-tired. Reading is a pretty good way to make yourself drowsy.

Yeah, I have a problem with staying up late too. I made my University schedule fit around it, so I'm fine.

I think a solution is to wake up earlier and earlier every day, so you're tired enough to go to sleep. Or, find a relaxing activity to do before you go to bed.

Strenous exercise might be a good solution as well. I live a pretty sedentary life at the moment, but I never had any trouble getting to sleep when I was working jobs that had lots of manual labor (home repair/concrete repair).

hmm, I work out hard three times a week and I don't drink so those are both out. I don't know if it's really as serious as all that, but it's kind of annoying. What is nice, though, is that since I'm an 'aspiring writer' I get in this zone around 1 that unblocks my mind, so I manage to get something done if I feel up to it. But staying awake in class is a little toough...

Sleeping pills work fine for me, but then I find that I can't sleep well for a few nights after I quit, so I try to avoid them. Right now I keep watching this dub dub thing and laughing my ass off over and over, ahaha

I can't sleep until 6am nowadays. This might have a little to do with only getting up at 2pm working a shift from 3pm to 11pm.

But it's never too late to start up a healthy drinking habit!

If pills and booze aren't working.....and you don't want to see a doctor....then the only decent solution is going to be re-working you class schedule. Tough out the rest of the semester, then make sure you don't have any classes scheduled before 11 next semester.

I hear milk and cookies help. but for me i'm up at night cause of Heartburn and stomach problems so i have to sit up. Might as well be dominating an army of things in Homeworld 2 than sleeping.

My body clock gets stuffed around all the time because I work at Maccas and do a mixture of day shifts starting at 5am up to 12pm to night shifts finishing at 2am or 6am. 24 hour Maccas suck to work at ;p

I find it pretty easy to get back into a normal sleeping pattern though. You really only need one night where you get like 4 hours sleep, maybe less, and then you should easily be able to go to bed at 11pm-ish the next night. Just make sure you don't get too much sleep the next night though. Maybe 7 - 8 hours. After that sleep as much as you want.

One time recently I did a night shift from 10pm till 6am in the morning and then came home had a shower, played some games and then had to go out to breakfast with my dad for father's day, and then to lunch and finally a movie. I got home about 2pm and I was ready to collapse! So insanely tired. Went to bed about 2.30pm and then woke up at 10pm. And then had to start work next day at 5am so I had to try and go back to sleep again after I just woke up! lo. So just stayed up till about 1am and then went to be a for a couple of hours.

read a book. it doesn't make me drowsy, but it clears my head and allows me to wind down. Makes going to sleep a smoother process.

I stay up too late, end up being damn tired at work, then nap for 2 hours when I get home each evening and then stay up too late again. Bad cycle but college messed me up with having mid-day/afternoon classes so I could do the 3-4am->10-11am sleep schedule for several years.

Yeah so I started writing around 1:30 and quit around 3:00, didn't get asleep till around 4 and the sprinklers woke me up by pelting my window again per usual at 5. I'm sorta tired now... :(

Do you drink a lot of soda throughout the day?

I used to drink Moutain Dew hardcore. I'd have it with every meal, baby. That shit got me wired, and I had a similar situation to yours.

So I switched things up a bit. No more Mountain Dew evar! Now all I drink is water, gatorade, anything that doesn't ahve a lot of sugar/caffeine. Gets the job done.

It happened to me several times and it sucks when you have to get up at 6AM to go to work. I usually passed all the day as a zombie...
Try getting used to go to bed earlier...It's beginning to work to me.

I got the same problem as you, buddy.

Last year I went to bed regularly around 11-11:30. I had a roomate who I was careful not to wake, worked out heavily daily, and kept a really rigid schedule.

Now I'm on my own though and I'm going out of control. I stay up to 6am way to regularly. Sometimes I just stay up all night and don't even sleep for a day.

My sleeping patterns are completely erratic. I find that 6hrs is usually plenty though. I was a zombie at work the other day (up at 6:30) with only 3 1/2hrs of rest. :X

I always feel worse when I get more than 8hrs of sleep too..

I've got some advice counter to that. :) I find doing a rote task on GBA (say, leveling up in Pokémon) helps dull me to sleep... plus I later get to take advantage of more powerful creatures.
