I find Pop-GAF utterly baffling (RANT)

In all seriousness though, in regards to the sales discussion.

In pop, when you sell. Those same people that buy your records aint buying more than 3 or 4, because Pop music is fickle. Couple years none yall gonna be buying these peoples music lets be honest.

Some hip hop artist may have smaller fanbases, difference is they loyal fanbases. That will always support the music, buy the tickets etc.

Pop artists come and go, are interchangeable and are ten a penny.

Hip hop fans have loyal, dedicated fanbases for years on end.

Wu Tang is 20 years deep with a cult following. I lost track how many shows i been to over the years.

Pop stars get their shine then fall off the face of the earth.

If i was given the choice, id take making money over a long term, then getting one big lump sum (During their 15 minutes.)

Wu-Tang is for the babies.

Storming the stage to promote another POP artist.

You must have never been to ATRL.

There are tons of pop stars that have maintained relevance over many years and are still successful. Rih is 7 years in the game, Britney and Xtina are over 10, Madonna is at 100, etc.

And they all have dedicated fanbases.

Like, what are you talking about?

and there is more

Keep trying to shade out of context. You see how I didnt equate sales to talent, and no one was shading them for selling low? HAHAHA. We actually act civilised in Gaf Hop in comparison to yall heathens. Thats quite a feat.

Y'all getting feisty. No one needs to get done over this thread.

Also, the gotcha-politics on that "GAF-Hop posts sales too!" one is Trump-tier.

I think this kind of works both ways for some hip hop artist, and pop stars. The main people I enjoy have been in the business for over two decades. So there is definitely some cases of longevity in pop.

Yes, I love the Music Is Fun room too, despite certain members' pressed attitude towards pop music (none of which are from GAFHOP, incidentally).

But this needs to be clarified...

The same service that HiRes introduced you to?
POPGAF was the place of birth for the plug rooms on GAF. We were already seasoned vets by the time MIF came along.

Yes it is. The idea of it was actually spawned in our thread and was made by Hires.

Boom. Headshot. His credibility is gone.

Edit:

Regarding Plug, Gaf-Hop mainly plays pop music whenever im in there. We love your music. Also, MiF wasnt even close to our first room in Plug. We were cutting our teeth on that other site well before too.

Not true. There are plenty of Pop artists that go on to maintain minor relevance years or even decades past their prime. I could name them all but that would be pointless.

Hell, Wilson Phillips is about to tour. Wilson-fucking-Phillips.

Meanwhile there are also rap acts that don't go on to maintain these "loyal fanbases" you speak of, regardless of their peak relevance. Been to any Lil Zane concerts recently?

Each genre has their own share of has beens, nobodies, cult acts and legends.

No one has done that though. I don't know where you're getting that from.

But you're right about the shading, and when 80% of my faves are irrelevant, it can get to you

LMAO at the bolded...

Just to me seems when pop stars fall off, they fall waaaaaaay off and a new flavour of the year pops up. Pop fans are generaly younger, and with that comes people growing up and changing their musical taste.

Dont quote me with sassy comebacks and metric tonnes of gif.s, actually talking to yall here.

That's because Pop acts simply reach a higher peak than the smegma you're used to stanning for.

LOL. When my favorite artists are relevant to more than just teenage girls, I think I can call that a win. You havnt moved past that awkward stage in your life yet it seems.

Mostly no one in PopGaf equates Talent to Sales, but luckily some of our faves have both

but its cute how you keep trying to generalize all of our community while trying to make yourself look better when all you have done is continue to move the goal post and coming off as a hypocrite.

Doesn't care about sales, says he is sad when an album doesn't sale

Honey, no one is buying it

MIA, Kimbra, Florence + the Machine, Lykke Li, Janelle Monae, Sleigh Bells, Azealia Banks, Ellie Goulding, Fiona Apple, Jessie Ware, Katy B, La Roux, and Lily Allen are relevant to teenage girls?

oh, I wasn't aware.

Well...

Britney's album releases from 2000 to 2009

1. Oops!... I did it again
2. Britney
3. In the zone
4. Greatest hits: My prerogative
5. B in the mix: The remixes
6. Blackout
7. Circus
8. The singles collection

Beys album releases from that same era

1. Dangerously in love
2. B'Day
3. I am... Sasha Fierce

8 albums vs 3.

And Bey is STILL the best selling record artist overall.

List of number 1 albums, what about the talent though?
ARTPOP will outsell all your faves. It will go to #1 in twenty countries at least, and be the best selling album of it's year. *

If Adele doesn't release an album too in 2013.
What about the talent though?

OH LAWWWWD. You really out of touch. I dont think anyone in gaf hop has ever brought up Soulja Boy.

And Bow wow? Yall really do think like teenage girls.

No soulja boy is a perfect example of a popular hip hop artist who quickly faded away, which he contested doesn't happens in that genre.

READ.

i like rihanna but i wouldnt say rihanna has talent. she's more like a shitty book you wanna read when your brain isnt working. or like when you're drunk

Doesn't matter, he's one of your ilk. You can't ignore the unsavory parts of your genre if you're trying to #clapback, son.

That only works if anyone in the rap community gave a shit about him. I dont equate some bum fuck in bred trash trying to sing at the local mall with pop music. Just because he does it, doesnt mean he is it, nahmean?

How's soulja boy doing?

That's because Pop acts simply reach a higher peak than the smegma you're used to stanning for.

Id consider Soulja boy pop to be honest. He wasnt making music for hip hop heads.

Smegma seriously? Missed the part of my post where i asked not for sassy bullshit but an actual discussion. Clearly that cant be done with some of yall.

Some of yall made some good points, i dont pay enough attention to (Underground?) pop stars from way back to see if they still making money. Was just a thought to discuss.

Unfortunately theres a minority of Pop-GAF who cant have discussions without childish replies so ill leave it there.

Peace out yall, lets do this again sometime.

Dont call us, we'll call you.

Sales usually come up when PopGAF is trying to have some fun. You don't really think we care all that much about that aspect of music, do you? Admittedly, it does come up more often than it needs to, but we don't have thousands of mixtapes to listen to like GAF-Hop...

READ.

I did. I see nowhere in 36's post where he stated it never happens. He actually explicitly said "some," which restricted the domain of those acts with lifelong fanbases.
