We've had a broken snowblower sitting in the garage. I've been BEGGING for a month for someone to get it fixed. They blew me off, it snowed a little and I shoveled. So why do you wait for 20 fukken inches before you finally get it repaired and it won't even be ready til tomorrow. So of course I'm out there for 45 minutes nearly having a goddamn stroke before someone decides to help. Now my body aches, I'm sick and I have MF'in migraine.

PS. This is why the northern territories didn't have slavery. There is NOTHING you could do to make a person in this shit.

I shoveled my walkway and the lower part of my driveway. The dude next door just walked a few extra feet when he was snow blowing his sidewalk and knocked mine out. That was nice of him. A good 10 inches too...I got 4WD so I just busted out of my driveway no problem.

I saw snow once when my family went up to Lake Tahoe in the winter. Snow sucks. You play in it and it's solid, but then you stop and go inside and you're all fucking wet. It made me go insane when I was a kid.

Yeah shoveling was a bitch today. It wouldn't have been so bad had it not been for the damn wind. Because of all the drifiting some parts of the driveway was clean and other parts had like 4 feet of snow.

Hmm...I'm guessing you guys have never dug a ditch or trench? Now, THAT is a annoying. :) Especially when the ground is about as hard as a brick.

I shoveled my drive twice today. Once in the afternoon when 8 inches of snow had fallen, and again at about 9PM when all the snow drifted back into the drive. I seriously have 3 and a half feet of snow all around my drive. This wind is nuts.

I've never understood the point in shoveling snow. If you wait long enough, it will melt. Unless you're physically unable to get out of your driveway, I just don't see the purpose.

Well the snow at this point in New England could certainly make it difficult for people to leave their driveways.

Yea Ive done that in our house's back yard. I hit rock solid dirt that seemed impossible to dig.

You must've had some sucky snow. When it's packable it can be great. And powder is great for sledding and skiing and such. I don't want to hear you ever badmouth snow again.

in canada, you are required to do it by law, if someone falls and injures themself on sidewalk in front of your house within reasonable time... you are liable. ($$$)

I'm gonna start taking long walks looking for driveways that aren't shoveled and fake some falls :D Time to make some ching ching!!

It's illegal here, and most likely in the whole state (NJ), to NOT clean your sidewalk in front of your house. They give you up to a certain amount of time to clean it, usually until the end of the day after the snowfall. If you don't, you get a fine.

And you can't 'wait until it melts', if the next time an above-freezing temperature comes is in another few days, or even weeks.

UPDATE on storm in NJ- already up to 12 inches here, not including snowdrift. My area is supposed to get 16-20 inches by the end of tomorrow.

You're not missing much. It looks nice for about a day, then it gets all black and dingy and muddy because of cars and general pollution.

Also, possibly yellow, depending on the local dog population.

I used to hate shoveling snow, but that's because I was a lazy bastard back then. I don't mind it much now, however here in Chicago we are getting close to 12 inches and hot damn that's no fun. Ah well, should be quite the experience tommorow morning. As long as it doesn't snow again...I'm not holding my breath though.

Wow, I didn't realize people were actually legally obligated to do it in some areas. For once, the Midwest is good for something I guess.

You must be lucky. I live in the Midwest, and the sidewalks have to be shoveled. If not, the city comes in and does it and ends up charging you like 150 bucks.

Jesus, that's fucking bullshit. I would assume that there are a bunch of home owners associations somewhere that make a big deal about it but it surprises me that the government cares.

It's wierd. I don't mind cutting grass/raking leaves etc. I even love snow/the winter season. But I HATE shoveling the shit. Especially when its 12+ like it was today.

12+? What the hell does that mean? Your fahrenheit stuff suck. Why are americans using this stupid system? How about using the one that actually makes sense? You know, the one when it gets below 0 stuff actually freezes.

He meant inches of snow, not degrees Fahrenheit; clearly, this comprehension error on your part shows that people who live in countries which have adopted the celsius scale are deficient in their critical faculties, the cause of which is undoubtedly systemic in nature. One more reason we haven't made the switch yet. ;) :p

Americans: able to read and comprehend sentences* :D

I don't give a fukk where you're from snowfall is measured in inches/mm not degrees last time I checked.

So you don`t say inches? Just 12+ ? I thought he meant 12+ fahrenheit. Oh well.

So given the context, you'd sooner infer that he meant degrees rather than inches of snow? Nice try, Gregory! :D

(I can see how that'd happen, though- I'm just being a bitch because I'm bored :p)

heh, actually yes. I thought 12+ fahrenheit was perhaps pretty cold which made it a pain in the ass to showel the snow. 12 inches (around 30cm right?) is not what I would call a lot of snow though so I didnt make that connection. I`m used to 1-2 meters of snow.

i love snow but when i had to shovel at my old job.....ugh.
we're getting 12-18 inches in NYC today/tomorow. (that's 24-36 cm for you euros. :D )

Feel the same way. I was soooo disappointed when I first "played" in the snow. Damn I love living in California.

Like I said, I realized how/why you might make that mistake, because shovelling in the cold IS a pain in the ass. :p

1-2 meters of snow? :lol Where do you live, Siberia? :D

Hah, I'll pass-- my car is currently under about 3 feet of snow all around. We made the pile around my car since I have nowhere to go until at least monday night. :p

It's gonna be fun digging it out, though... :(

Nah, I still have my winter 20 on (as in, "pounds"), but I usually do all the shovelling for my house, my neighbor's, and my aunt's place around the corner. I could use the exercise, considering. :p

Wow, crazy.

Hah, you must be laughing at us for crying like girly-men over a foot or so of snow. :D

I take it everyone has a snowblower up there? ;)

Wow, just finished digging out the sidewalks here at work (northampton, MA). Sent the staff off for breaks, came upstairs to complain about the snow on GA...then I see Gregory's post. So much for that.

Snowed about 15" or so here, plus moderate drifting. Took us three hours to dig out 80' or so of sidewalk. Yes, the fucking snowblower is broken.
