was out during the afternoon for lunch and walked around. Saw COV:LOI for about $15 USD. Bought it. Should I be happy or do a local EB trade in? Can't wait to get around to it now that its backlogged ... in about 2 months. :lol I figured being as rare as it is in AUS, the trade in value should be good. :)

Also bought BG+E about a week ago. Somewhere scheduled in the backlog too.

oh shit please trade in before it's too late. You may never recover sane gamer state (if you have any) after playing that clusterfuck of a game. :lol

No, don't trade it in. It's actually a somewhat decent game. The music is wonderful and some bits are worth your time. I would say it's one of the better action-adventures on the PS2.

The use of nonsensical acronyms in thread titles needs to stop now. Who in the fuck shortens Castlevania to COV? Even when the acronyms make sense, they're still irritating. Type the name of the game out, or at least a shortened version that's easily identifiable. I'm sick of "OMG SSFT: TNC is awesome!" threads.

Download the game from the net and trade the game ha ha

I didn't think the game was all that bad either. For $15 I think it's worth it

Trade-in the game toward God of War, which has the one good idea from Lament of Innocence but isn't anywhere as repetitive or dull. Hell, GoW is like Devil May Cry, Ico, Zelda, and Shenmue all mixed into one (the good parts). A couple frustrating puzzle-ish elements near the end, but otherwise it's a highly cinematic, bloody, and fulfilling journey set in ancient Greece. Everything about the game is impressive--for instance, the cinemas and levels employ a mammoth sense of scope (one level is a temple set on the back of a titan, and part of the level shows you walking around the outside -- and you can see his giant arms, legs, and head meandering below). Plus, the main evil dood, Ares, is about 200 feet tall and about as tough to kill as Dracula ever was.

And if you already have God of War, you need to get rid of Lament of Innocence NOW.

Aside: I put off playing God of War for weeks, but between the glowing reviews and my friends pretty much peer-pressuring me into it, I've been sucked lock, stock, and barrel into it. Best PS2 game in the past couple years, easy. Perhaps even best console game overall, although my judgment is cloudy right now. (forgot to mention, the cut scenes are full of bouncy breasts and bloody decapitations and impalements. if you have a weak stomach, well.... run)

:lol @ the LOI hate

is it really that bad? I think I'll bump it up the backlog. Will finish next after my 3rd MGS3 playthrough. :D

It's a Castlevania but without Castlevania gameplay. lol
Oh yeah and forget about the "being in Castle" feel. It's pretty much all on the same plane and you feel like walking through an endless shopping mall or something.
It's the pinnacle of mediocre level design. There's 32 chapels in this castle and there are rooms with 12 fireplaces on the walls and no other fucking furniture or whatever.

Maybe we hate this game so much that you'll like it somewhere. Soundtrack is top notch and the combat system is quite nice. But ALL the rest of the game is so bad that i'm still in shock after more than one year that it's out.

That's a good question. I just went right to LOI. I never even considered COV. Jesus, how could I miss that?

it confused us all, and I'm getting the impression we'll have a follow up of 20 cube of zoe-esque "where did COV come from?" posts

I agreed on the gameplay and level design, the level design was scary bad, but I also thought the soundtrack was terrible and the combat boring, which really didn't leave me with much to enjoy except knowing that atleast I had used a coupon and wasted $5 fewer when I bought it

Poor you dude. What's positive is that you made it through alive lol

I bought Lament of Innocence in a TRU Buy 2 Get 1, and then didn't play it for 5 months... by then it had dropped to $20. Ooch.

Music is good enough.... characters are hot... combat is fine... but the castle... it's just the same hallways over and over and over sprinkled with some cool, albeit short boss battles. At times, I wondered if it was a tech demo that Konami decided to flesh into a full game by tacking on artifacts and bosses.

The final half hour or so is superb... but getting to it is like watching CNN Headline News for 8 hours.... (didn't I just do this? Here again? How many times is that one zombie copied?)

Great graphics, great combat system (very enjoyable to say the least), nice story, the levels while a bit repetitive do not look bad (each level re-uses some of its building blocks a lot, but generally each level/word has unique assets compared to other lvels/world) and the music as other people said it is kick-ass.

Play it and have an open-mind when you do :).
