I miss "The Evil Within" so much...

The first is great. Brillant game.
Mikami is the boss.

Second one was a huge dissapointment.
I agree with this, I personally LOVED the first game but second game not so much and I hated the fact they didn't continue Ruvic's story and instead they went generic story of him looking for his daughter.

Evil Within gets better each time I replay it and better understand what it's going for. Mikami was a GOAT of designing gameplay scenarios that are built to serve the game mechanics. Like in how RE4, the combat is designed around the fact you can't move and shoot at the same time.

Evil Within 2 is more polished but loses some of the charm, too. It didn't feel as hellish and grimy as EW1.

Polarizing series. I enjoyed both entries, but prefer the first. My least favorite aspect was the far fetched storytelling. It was not the easiest to follow if i recall. Or just kinda dumb/too surreal.

First game was great, it was what a resident evil sequel could be, but with a smaller budget.

Second game flipped the franchise on its head and instead of RE/SH became TLOU.

Both games have their pros though as well as their own cons.

Both were mid tier at best.

A Mikami fanboy that I am I went into the first one expecting the 2nd coming and found myself playing a convoluted mess. Like they just thought about some cool horror levels and then made up a nonsensical plot to tie them together loosely.

My disappointment knew no bounds. 2nd one was a bit better but not much.

First game is nothing like Resident Evil. It is not action or puzzle oriented with sci-fi horror themes. It is not even structurally like any Silent Hill. It is a disjointed mess. It is like if Siren had tried to imitate Resident Evil 4 and incorporate grindhouse aesthetics and Saw themes. It played with many objectives and level designs but half assed them all and could not decide what to cut.

Second game is like a mix of Silent Hill (traversing surreal suburbia with monsters to find loved one) and Matrix (battle in a virtual reality). There is more hand holding in the first game than this one.

What the actual fuck
It is a weapon with no aim, almost no ammo, no range, and is useless against many enemies. At best it is a trap with super limited temporal and spacial utility. Various crossbow bolts can do that much better.

It's a special game that despite some clunkiness, is one of my favorites in the genre. For anyone that feels the story is confusing, the 3 DLC that released for The Evil Within are, imo, vital in explaining things in more depth about what's really going on.

I completed my Akumu mode run of this game last year on my path to getting the platinum. It was an exercise in extreme frustration when literally anything that hits you kills you instantly. But it was so satisfying to complete.
