I miss the pace games came out last gen.

I feel like games take forever to come out or don’t come out at all. I noticed I spend most time playing games from pre-2020, so I was thinking about how fast games came out last decade.

Titanfall 1 came out in 2014. Titanfall 2 came out in 2016. Apex came out in 2019. How the hell did respawn do that!? And why did they stop?

Division 1 came out in 2016. Division 2 came out in 2019. Why can't they get division 3 out the door in 6 years?

Destiny 1 came out in 2014. Destiny 2 came out in 2017. 3 years in between and now 7 years of jack shit.

What the hell is going on that games are taking ten years to make these days? Or they get canceled after years of development. Or they just don't bother. It's all very frustrating.

The endless puruist of reallife graphics over style. This is what graphic chasers get. Poorly managed western developers, budgets out of control, feature creep. Somehow Japan just does it better right now? Salaries and CEO's out of control. Chasing GAAS, I can go on.

Less skilled employees and managers/directors.

I miss the pace too.

Don't think it's really that much different from last gen. In fact, destiny and Titanfall have just became GaaS.

I do think it's a problem, but feel like it goes back longer than you think

Different teams. Titanfall 2 is also a small iterative game.

They'd love to. They need to figure out how to make money from it. Can't keep remaking live service games and expect players to migrate to the new one. Better to keep adding content to the base game. Imagine Respawn releasing Apex 2 today.

Same as above. 3 years ago was a bad time to release Destiny 3, and now is an even worse time.

I get the frustration though.

Fortnite ruined a generation. Publishers and developers are/were rushing trying to find that next flash in the pan.

So many studios have been destroyed the past few years because of this incessant live service push, or projects pushed back because of it.

Just get in to like Falcom games and RGG Studios, shit is coming out even faster. There’s been like 4 brand new Falcom games in 12 months
Eh, Falcom just makes 1 game per year, at most 2. Still great for their size and what they're set to do, I think Falcom is one of the best video game companies out there.

I miss the pace of games released back in the day. Street Fighter had something like 12 entries in 12 years, and then 3 entries in 12 years.

I don’t know, I currently have soooooooo much game to catch up.

This year alone both MHWilds and Xenoblade X DE will almost take over entire year for me.

I don’t have much issue waiting for games to come out because already so much games to play.

The contrast is kinda spectacular.

Compare halo for example, halo 3 only took 3 years to make, launched two years after the 360 released and is arguably the best game in the franchise

Infinite took 6 years, launched a year after the xbox series s/x and is arguably the worst of the franchise
(Granted its kind of a toss up between 5 and infinite. But at least 5 didnt take over a year for basic features like FRIGGIN’ CO-OP to be added)

Capcom is the only one still somehow keeping the pace with RE - or Activision with CoD.

But yeah, I agree. So much talent wasted on nothing ever being made. PSone + 2 days I could not keep up with all the releases. Buy now I caught up with everything I always wanted to play and I running out of games.

Aside from Service Games, I do think though that the huge library of games available has kinda ruined new game dev intentions. I mean, some games still slip through the cracks and are super successful, but generally the risk of bombing is too high. People have too much to play and if some new game is not special is some way, chances are high it’ll be lost.

I wish someone made a GaaS as good as Fortnite.

They put out Final Fantasy 7,8,9, and 10 in 4 and a half years. 2 of which were groundbreaking in terms of production value.

The output back then was absolutely insane.

Meanwhile these days it's gonna take like 6-8 years to just get the full ff7 remake.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Feels like forever because some dev or publisher will release a CGI trailer today for a game that is 2 years away from release.

And ‘pre order NOW’ kind of shit at the end of it.

They discovered the wonderful world of GAAS. Constant revenue at a fraction of investment required.

While there's some chasing of GaaS, and the pursuit of more and more realistic graphics. We can still lay blame at the coof sending everyone home at the same time mass hiring to expand teams. You now have groups with a bunch of people having negative productivity on the rest of the team. These people can't do anything on the creative side and end up moving to being management. They suck there as well and just kill any project they are on.

It's not just games. Look at how few movies and TV series there are now. There's going to be a turn of the tide, but this generation of console hardware will be obsolete by the time the correction is finished. But don't worry, the PS5 and the like will get plenty of great games that stress the system through the life of the PS6 and even PS7.

DEI hires, HR, management and consultants eating all the budget while slowing down actual game production.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
When I play an old game they sometimes put a group photo of the developers in the credits. Games used to be made by less than 50 people.
Yes. Smaller teams are more agile and it's easier to maintain the same vision between them.

When teams get bigger and suits are included, the vision blurs.
