SUCCESS!!!!!!!!
:D :D

Really pleased for you.

I have a problem, originally i booted ubuntu from USB, it detected both my HDDs (1TB HDD and 60GB SSD), bios does also, i installed win 7 but then i realized i was not in AHCI so i reinstalled completely. Win 7's installer detected both my HDDs, but once im in win 7 its only detecting the SSD and not the 1TB HDD

Help?

So I attempted to build my friends PC yesterday and when I went to mount the mobo to the case there were no screws provided. Only stand-offs were provided. Is this common? Seems a bit idiotic to me.

Alright, i went into the disk management, here's what i found.

disk 0 - basic - 931.51GB - online

system reserved - 100MB NTFS
Local disk d: - 931.41GB NTFS

disk 1 - basic - 55.90GB - online

C: 55.90GB NTFS

Now, for D: i had to assign the drive letter on it for it to be recognized cause otherwise it was just grey. The thing is that win7 is on the C:, WHY would freaking windows 7 but system reserved on the other drive?

Can i move it back to the SSD? does it matter? I just dont think its brilliant to have system files on an HDD that was supposed to be for media & games, if i detach the HDD the system will fuck up

FFS, why would win7 complicate its life like that.

Nope, should be screws in there with it.

OK guys, I really need some input here.

My system from one day to another stopped working. Firstly, it's going through some sort of boot recycle issue. As in, it'll turn on and turn off within 5 seconds. No POST screen or anything.

I've gone as far as buying a new MOBO, which would turn on and stay on, but I wouldn't get any video on my monitor. Returned the MOBO and bought another one. Gave me the boot recycle issue that my original MOBO gave me, so I returned it.

Bought a CPU and RAM. At first the CPU fixed the issue on the MOBO, but still absolutely no video. I've tried each stick of RAM in one slot at a time. Doing that would cause the boot recycle. I tried the new RAM, and trying one at a time, I also got the boot recycle.

I can't return on the CPU, so I'm now out 200 bucks (plus $30 for the first MOBO which had a 15% restocking fee).

I'm bringing this piece of shit in for a diagnosis tomorrow, but I would really like to get some opinions from you guys.

What I know is the PSU, GPU, RAM, HDD all work on my friends system without an issue. My monitor works when connected to another PC.

My system (currently):

i5 760, Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3, ATI Sapphire 5870, 750W PSU, G.Skill 4GB RAM.

iv been having this problem that all of a suden GTA 4 doesnt work and i get 3fps on persia =S it worked fine yesterday, nba 2k10 and stuff works good so does need for speed shift.
what could the problem be

So, thinking about building a new PC. Here's what I'm currently looking at.

Comp_Possibility.jpg

My questions:

1) How does that look here? Good? Bad? WTF am I doing?
2) I've no idea what I should buy to properly cool a system like this. Any suggestions?

filipe: did you originally have a gigabyte motherboard as well? just wondering. I honestly have no idea what it could be.

My actual board that I've had for the past 4-5 months is the Gigabyte. The EVGA turned on and stayed on, but no video. The ASUS did the same thing as the Gigabyte.

Now the Gigabyte with a new 760 (had a 750 before), I can either set it up to actual stay on (no video), or if I put only one stick of RAM in (tried my old RAM and new RAM) it starts doing the boot on/off loop.

Isn't the caviar green more suitable as a media disk, as it is slower than 'ordinary' hdd's?

I wasn't aware, I must have not read the spec right. What speed would be better?

Well both are 7200RPM AFAIR, but green is quieter and slower.
If you want faster hdd get caviar black of Samsung F3

Ah, thank you. Will swap.

Any thoughts on cooling the CPU? I've never built a computer strong enough that it would need cooling...

Woo! A chassi and a (modular Corsair 1000W) PSU are now bought, thanks to zon. Next up; mobo, CPU, GPU, memory, storage and a screen!

Haven't had/built a gaming PC since 2004. I've only used laptops.

Any thoughts? Should I do a fan setup? A liquid setup? Nothing?

what!? so last time you built a computer must have been in 1994...

About 2003 actually, but I was intentionally building a cheap, low end, inexpensive machine that could not play any games whatsoever.

But it had to have had a cooler I guess?

I think it came with a small fan, but that was sufficient as it was just a 700 Mhz processor. This is a whole new ballgame, and I've no idea if a fan or liquid would be better and if so, what type would be best, or if one is harder to implement than the other.

I have a corsair H50 to cool that CPU and it's pretty fantastic. Pretty much any decent air cooler will do the job though.

The Vista on my desktop got corrupted last week, could've just bought Win 7 and wiped the C: drive and probably would've been back up and running, but since my rig is 3 years old decided to buy a new one.

Priced out all the components on Newegg to build it myself but it only would've been about $100 more for the same custom setup via Cyberpower, so I ordered through them. Phenom II X6 and a GTX 470. I'm psyched. My 8800 GTX was running everything fine already, but I'm looking forward to Win 7 on a desktop and 8gb of ram.

Not that I'm an employee of Cooler Master Inc ( visit us at coo....) BUT I'll toss in another vouch for the hyper 212+ cooler, for 30$ the decrease in sound is it in itself worth the price.

Another vote for the 212+. This bitch is huge though, so not all cases can fit it

Sounds like a plan! Thanks guys!

Unplugged the 2nd HDD and reformated everything, reinstalled and now everything's running good.

BLAZING fast, damn, SSD + X6 1090T :o

Downloading just cause 2 on steam :D

I'm still having a big issue when it comes to booting my PC. This just started recent and I don't know what is causing it. Basically I get a single shot at booting correct. Every time I try to boot after that on the current power cycle either does a boot "activity for ~10 seconds" shutdown or boots and continues to go but there is no video signal. I have to reach around back and toggle the on/off switch on my PSU to be able to get back to a normal boot. The LCDs on my mobo suggest the thing is in the "BIOS sign on" phase of boot. Only thing I can think of is reinstalling my mobo BIOS, but I don't know if that would really do anything :|

Had to reinstall dirt 2 twice in order to be able to run the benchmark >_<!
But I finally got it to run and got a ridiculous 110ish avg fps with everything ( that can be set ) to ultra and 4msaa @ 1080p

But that's nothing to how much I bloody love triplebuffering. It adds another dimension of fluidity that....that...well it's just damn great.

Playing dirt 2 with phantomstuttering and tearing with 120fps isn't even half as good as playing it with triple buffering on and a 60fps lock.

Look at that horsie go!

Hey, just thanking you guys for helping me through my first build. You hear all the stories of hardware issues and broken parts, and all that freaked me out. But as luck would have it, I had no issues with my build. I now have a decent computer that can play everything I own at full settings. Not a bad way to spend a bonus. :D

Hey guys, I've decided I want to buy my CPU parts from TigerDirect.com for credit card rewards purposes. I have a build, listed below, however I can't seem to find some of the parts on TigerDirect.com. So essentially I was wondering if anyone could list items from TigerDirect that would make the same build. I put stars next to the items I need replacements via TigerDirect products.

Hey guys, stupid question time. Can you plug 2 mice and 2 kb's (all USB) into a single PC without any conflicts? Obviously my aim is to keep a pair at my desktop and a second pair for HTPC use without having to shuttle a single set back and forth several times a day.

I've set up two mice at the same time before, so yes, that's perfectly possible, works the same as trackpad+mouse. Two keyboards should work as well, laptops don't have any issue with it, so I don't see why a desktop should.

Another vote for this. I have an H70 which I absolutely love, but H50 will probably be enough for most people.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but you're only going to need an an aftermarket cooler for overclocking. Modern CPUs come with heatsink fan that's fine for stock speeds.

Is the x6 1090T the last AM3 processor AMD will make? If so, when do you expect those to go on closeout, and how cheap will one be able to snag such a CPU?

I think I've read that there's a 1035 and a 1075 coming.
