Nevermind, i think i sorted it, seems like it was the CMOS causing it to trip out, when I got it booted it said the problem was due to different overclocking or a change in the voltage, I've not messed with any of the OC stuff at all, so i'm presuming it it was due to the voltage, anyone know what could have caused that?
Usually that is limited to an overclock change or unstable CPU. Perhaps your RAM was defaulting to a different voltage as well. Should make sure RAM is set to run at what it is rated at.
So unless someone can see anything wrong with these 2 I will buy today. I am upgrading from a 5770 and 4GB of ram. I just can never tell the difference between the 40 versions of the same card.

That RAM is 1.65V, try to find some DDR3 1.5V RAM if possible. It will run, but is not ideal since the 1155 platform was designed for 1.5V
GPU is fine and is a good one
So mad I missed out on this case! http://bit.ly/vW4KMb Any chance newegg will restock for cyber Monday? Is there anything else like this?
Usually no. BF and Monday are a lot of the time for stock clearance.
Hey guys. I'm in the computer ghetto, I live on hand me downs and stuff.

Here is my current setup

CPU TYPE:
Intel® Core™2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz
CPU SPEED:
2.15 GHz
SYSTEM MEMORY:
3.25 GB
VIDEO CARD MODEL:
Radeon X1800 GTO

My x1800 keeps melting or something, so I was able to get a buddy to give me a BFG Tech Geoforce 7950 GT OC

I'm just happy that I'm getting a card that hopefully will not overheat, but will I see any performance increase with the different card. With all the different flavors of cards out there, it was hard to tell, but I think my new card has double the onboard RAM as the old card, otherwise they are pretty much from the same gen. Also, my new one has all 16 vertex shaders or whatever turned on, while the old one only had 12?

Please educate me PC-GAF
iirc the x1900 and x1950 lined up with the 7900GS, so you should be seeing some small performance boosts., but largely around the same FPS.

the CX430 PSU is enough for a 6770 and i5 2500K, right? The details on the card typically say 450W minimum PSU and I just want to make sure I won't run into any issues.

If it won't, any recommendations for a good 450W PSU at the same price level as the CX430?

Should be running better also because it's nvidia. You should be a-OK with the remainder of this gen. It has a few fps more than the 1950 counterpart and you should be able to run games like MW3 and ES:V

I had the same PSU bought with almost the same setup. I was assured it would be fine but after some searching around I opted for the CX500 which was cost 10 bucks extra. Worth it I'd say.

Posted for new page.
Unless I'm mistaken all Corsair PSUs (and your TX750 I'm guessing) are rated as continuous. I think it is a mistake on marketing jargon for the newegg product page.
Usually MAX rated PSUs are lesser quality than continuous load, but since it is a corsair 750w you are fine either way.

Yes CX430 is fine.
At that price point it only makes sense to go to a 500w or 550w.
Also the 430w acts more like a 380w, but that is still fine. Remember it still is LOW end.
Thanks for the help. Is this one better? I really have no idea about ram, so many different kinds. I have an i5 if that makes a difference.

Yes those are fine.
Will a 560 Ti run on a 400 watt corsair PSU? i have no problem upgrading if i need to.
CX400 is a very solid PSU, better than the 430w they replaced it with. You should be ok. That's a scenario I'd actually try the GPU with the PSU on on personally, but don't run FURMARK and CPU load programs imo.
Still, if you plan on using it another 3 years I'd replace it now, maybe get a nice Cyber Monday deal.

So I'm having a bit of a problem with my video card (GTX460). I recently decided to hook my computer up to my TV on a permanent basis so I ordered an HDMI switcher and a couple of extra cables. When I hooked it up to my TV though nothing was being displayed and I found that the connection to my video card (an HDMI cable with the HDMI->mini HDMI adapter provided by NVidia) was extremely loose. It would come out with even the slightest tug on the cord.

I double checked the switch and the cables with other devices and they all work fine, I also bypassed the switch straight to the TV and the same result occurred. I remounted the video card into the motherboard as well just on the off chance that would fix it, it didn't.

Has anyone else ever had a similar problem? Is there anything I can do too specifically fix the mini HDMI port on my card? That appears to be the issue, as everything else on the card functions fine. I actually had the PC hooked up to my TV a week or two ago just for a football game and everything worked fine then, it seems odd to me that the port would get loose in such a short period of time.

The cx430 is more than enough. Don't throw ten bucks in the garbage

Do gpu's go on sale during the blackfriday weekend? I don't seem to see any online, I'm guessing that I'm probably looking in the wrong places.

Thanks so much Hazaro. I get a little jumpy when I have to open up a system/mobo I've never researched, and though I'm used to being chirped in the ear when troubleshooting hardware I never get quite used to it.

I inherited a set of Corsair Vengeance RAM, and the heatsink on these things is enormous. It is looking like I am going to have to get one of those Corsair watercooling things instead of a heatsink because of how big they are.

Anyone have any experience with the Corsair H100? I've never watercooled before, so I would like to know what I'm getting into as far as maintenance and danger to my other components is concerned.

Guys I need help...

Isn't a 2500k supposed to handle a lot of Wii games fairly well? Even at stock?

I have a 2500k @stock, 4GB RAM and a 6950 and I'm having difficulty running Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M, MG2 is giving me less than 30 frames no matter what settings I use! even if I overclock it to 4.3Ghz still the same exact performance and I've seen people running it at really high framerate even at stock clocks.

Metroid Other M is giving me ~40 FPS in the tutorial area, what could possibly be happening? I know this is not normal even for my processor on stock settings and like I said overclocking it yields the same performance.

I need help :(

$179.99 i5 2500k am got. Now I just need to order everything else. :p

Before I order I Just wanted to make sure... this is the Biostar TZ68 A+ listed in the OP right? And the i5 2500k will work with it?

You can unscrew the top some vengence heatsinks... otherwise you can get new RAM and a CPU cooler for cheap and return/sell your current sticks.
Best value reasonably high performance GPU?

I was thinking some sort of GTX570 or should I go a 6970?
560ti/6950 for value. New 560Ti (448) is soon and might be equal value while being a bit faster.

Sounds like emulation settings instead. I think SMG2 is hard to get running well. You aren't getting a faster CPU on the market today so I'd say it is your settings or build.

Thanks for the responses on the CX430. I'm trying to really maximize my budget so I'll probably stick with it unless I can grab any good deals over the next couple weeks on the 500.

This thread has helped me so much, Thanks OP and everyone else!!!

I'm starting out from scratch aside from my Dell S2209 Monitor that I've had for a while. I bought the i5 2500k processor paired up with a P8 Z68-V mobo from Microcenter (149.99 + 119.99 after 60 dollar cpu/mobo bundle discount) today, and ordered the rest on newegg.

I still have a few items that I need to build my very first rig (since 2004). If any of you have any recommendations on Storage/Graphics Card/Heatsink/Sound Card. Please let me know.

Hey everyone, so from the looks of it, I'm not the only one who is building a new rig based on the i5 2500k processor. I'm still patiently waiting for a good price on a GPU/HD. But just in case you can't wait any longer, just figured out that microcenter also has the 560 GTX TI for 199.99 AR. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0356003

I'll prolly go with these if they prices go down upon the release of the new 560s. But for now, waiting for cyber monday to see what is out there.

Getting excited to build my rig once everything comes in.

Ugh. I've just had my 3-months old stable build (or what I thought was stable) fail to boot up after being away from it since Wednesday for Thanksgiving weekend at my family's.

This thing went months stable, but finally showed it's instability after being left cold for a few days.

Time to readjust some settings and stress test again.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Newegg is sold out of the 2x2GB Corsair 1333 and the 2x4GB G. Skill Sniper 1600. Amazon has the G. Skill RAM but it's 62.99...Was planning to buy my stuff tomorrow but now I'd have to wait for them to restock. Any suggestions for adequate replacements? Or am I just going to have to wait if I don't want to sacrifice value?

Any news on the higher core GTX 560 Ti? I've only heard good things and I'm starting to believe it's like the 8800GT back when that came out; as far as price/performance goes.

Bought a 34$ 80gb harddrive. lol. Downgraded from 160GB after 5 years. It's gonna be a WOW and porn machine.

(My harddrive is dying and will build a new rig in Jan.)

Multiple retailers have had it listed since last week, and have been selling them for days now, ahead of the launch this week. Like the GTX 465, and non-Ti GTX 560, there isn't really a reference design. Expect prices to vary quite a bit, and be higher than expected, in some instances. Nvidia has effectively been selling some version of this card since around the time of the GTX 560 Ti's launch, with certain OEM 560 Tis having more in common with this card, than the retail 560 Ti.

Just a slot in $300 card then. Keep milking those scant sales before new GPU launch I guess.
Not changing recommendation unless it hits like $250.

BTW, the rebate on Amazon has expired apparently. TD and NewEgg are still good, they list 11/30 as the last day. CompUSA and TD are the same rebate and virtually the same site.

I see a second one that expires 11/30:
https://evga.4myrebate.com/Claim/OfferDetailsNewGrid/?Offercd=EGA-13124
Amazon doesn't link to it.

TD, ComUSA, and Newegg all had ones that expired in October.

Well, the full list of the TD and CompUSA ones are:
