Most exhaust are 80 or 120mm, if its an old mATX case that has 92mm I'd just look up on newegg for 92mm.

I didn't realize how small the differences between the deluxe and pro were, so thats switched out. I doubt I'll be adding another card soon so I switched the psu out as well. As far as cpu goes, I'll also be doing a lot of rendering. Is it not worth it to give it that extra little nudge?

I mean people who leave the voltage on auto, set multi to 45 and never look at anything else (like voltage or stress temps). That's all.
LLC and power options don't matter much until you go past 4.5
I think 1.3V and 4.4 or so is a nice general idea of what you can get.

But they don't. That's the problem. Having a 2 core intel match a 4 core Phenom II at the same clock speed is just ridiculous. I had the x4 in the budget build for a long time until I really looked at it and said it didn't belong.

So i went ahead a bought the Phenom II X6 1055t w/ motherboard and 4gigs of ddr3 ram for 200$.

Is the stock AM3 cooler loud or is it just mine? I'm ready to head down to fry's and pick up anything at the moment due to how loud this is.

It's done, and damned near self-aware. Got a day or so of updating and general housekeeping before finally working through the overclock regimen. Should be fun.

Randoms thoughts on the assembly:

- LOVE LOVE LOVE the Corsair 600T case! Holy shit, it's awesome, both from a looks-in-person standpoint, and from an enthusiast builder's standpoint. My previous case (the Coolermaster 690) looks like an archaic piece of flotsam next to it. There's more ways to route cables than I could use. The ease with which everything comes apart and can be moved around continued to astound me. Really, I have very little complaints, except two: 1) total lack of documentation. Would have been nice to have a manual included. 2) Cabling for the front control/input stack left something to be desired.

- Loving the Gigabyte motherboard. The thing reeks of quality build when you first lay your eyes on it, and then again when you pick it up. The layout was great except for the fact that the GTX 580 extended over the top of the SATA ports, but that isn't Gigabyte's fault really, not entirely anyway. Can't wait to see how she overclocks.

- High props to Noctua. Not only was the NH-D14 a breeze to install, despite it being the size of a small moon and humans being able to see it from space, but it was also expertly packaged and documented. The parts were in individually labeled bags and everything just screamed quality and thoughtfulness. I won't hesitate to use them in the future. Also, their compatibility list for what RAM will fit under the heatsink/fans was dead on, the G.Skill Ripjaws fit just fine with a little room left over with no moving of the fan by me.

- Finally, it wouldn't be a custom build if there weren't at least one panic moment, and mine came when I got ready to power it on for the first time and all I got was 2 seconds of fan spin and lights before it would go dead. Turns out I forgot a minor little thing called the 8-pin 12v power connector! Once that oversight was corrected, she booted in grand fashion.

Thanks again for the help PC-GAF. Having not done a build for 4 years, it reminded me once again how much I fucking LOVE hardware. Worship it, even.

Read up reviews on it from sites in the OP and decide for yourself if you want more CPU power.
It's extremely capable and has HT, plus 1155 offers a nice clear upgrade path.

Hey guys, long time console gamer who's finally looking to get onto the PC scene. For information, I've been using iMacs primarily for the last ~6 years, I've built PC's before so I know how to string one together, but my knowledge on what parts I should actually buy, is minimal.

Basic Desktop Questions:
Your Current Specs: It's an iMac.
Budget: £700 UK (inc. 24" monitor)
Main Use: Gaming & Music.
Monitor Resolution: Erm...24" screen!
List SPECIFIC games that you MUST be able to play: Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Witcher 2
Are reusing any parts?: It's all brand new, except keyboard & mouse.
When will you build?: Towards the end of August.
Will you be overclocking?: Not initially, but I've no doubt I'll end up doing so anyway.

A friend came up with this build when we were discussing a custom gaming rig a month or so ago. My minimal knowledge of parts says that it looks pretty decent to me. Ultimately, the point of this rig is to play BF3 at a high setting. Will it handle 60fps? I don't know.

The budget is fairly strict, I could maybe push the budget up by £50, but not much more than that.

That's a decent enough set-up. It looks like you are trying to save where you can. So that + 5830 is pretty solid.

That's a very good list. If your budget is pretty strict that is about all you are going to get. If you can find some way to get a H61/P67 (Look at the OP) motherboard and an intel i3 you'll have an upgrade path and it will probably be slightly better for gaming. It's really for the upgrade path though.
If you overclock the X4 to 3.6Ghz or so that will help you out.

Only change I'd do is knock the PSU down to the 600W of that OCZ model to save you $10.

Secure one side with the metal hook, then push down hard to get the other side to snap in.
Instructions should be with your cooler and motherboard. Plus internet.

Is there anything better to read/see about it? I managed to find a youtube video but it didn't say anything about the paste

The issue is I tried, but I can't seem to move it left and right. now it's on the stuck on the CPU due to the thermal paste. I'm nervous cause I do not want to break it. On the first picture, the latch is "stuck" under the two grooves on the fan. Making it impossible to push it left or right.

Am I fucked?

Thanks everyone for helping me with the case in the old thread. So now everything is running fine in the 1k model (thanks for picking the parts OP) and I want to OC this bad boy, do I need a radiator for the top of the case or will I be okay with the CPU cooler in the build?

I have no idea as I don't have my parts yet. I'm sure someone else on here has done it and could provide you with more useful advice in that regard. I also noticed in the comments in the article the author recommends three lines for the 212+.

You can unscrew the fan and look to see what happened under. You should be able to just adjust it though, can't think of why it would be stuck. I don't have a ton of experience with broken AMD stock coolers though.

I just put a small pea drop on the cpu, and the weight of the hyper 212 spread it out. get great temps too
