So... what's the GPU situation at the mo. I'll probably be looking at throwing in something mid range but tasty around the release of BF3. Are we expecting anything near then?

Bad audio jack/cable. Is it by chance plugged in to the front panel?Nekrono said:Guys I'm having a weird issue right now (at least I just noticed it) I'm browsing stuff on the internet and when I scroll through pages my speakers make a buzzing type of sound, especially when I scroll really fast, seems to be when the PC is reading or loading stuff.
Any idea what the cause/fix may be? It's really annoying.
One thing to note and also another thing that I wanted to ask is that after I got the ASUS P8P67 whenever I play games I get a really audible buzz sound coming through the speakers as well, it's really noticeable when the volume is somewhat low or there isn't much going on in the game, I don't know if this has something to do with Realtek or the GPU and this mobo or something, I know it's not the GPU alone since it wasn't making this noise before the upgrade, and from my research some even say that it's related to when the GPU is in use and some weird resonance or something.
I'm at a loss here, I need your help GAF, let me fix this annoying issue it's the only thing that is keeping me from being extremely happy and content with my upgrade.
Btw, the buzzing sound is audible even when I mute the speakers and also I've downloaded the latest drivers, etc.
No, it's plugged through the back, and also I doubt it's the audio jacks/cables since I didn't have this issue prior to the upgrade, it happened after I switched to the new mobo, also it doesn't make the sound if I sit idle doing nothing. It seems to be only when the computer is reading/loading.mkenyon said:Bad audio jack/cable. Is it by chance plugged in to the front panel?

That's how I've always had it :\. I'm really at a loss here, I'm starting to think it's got something to do with the circuits and/or some sort of static within the motherboard/parts.Borgnine said:Try turning the volume knob all the way up on your speakers and adjusting the volume down in Windows.
I have the same issue. I've read that it has to do with interference due the location of the sound chip on the motherboard or the quality of the parts used. You end up hearing when your PCs under some specific load. I've noticed that it happens in game menus, with VSYNC off, so my guess it's the graphics card causing interference directly, or indirectly by drawing more power, or something. I'm no expert, but thus are my observations. I have FRAPS running right now and it actually measures performance in Firefox (due to hardware acceleration, I think?). When I scroll quickly, I can get the FPS above 260 easily, and the buzzing becomes really noticeable. The same thing happens in game menus when vsyn is off.Nekrono said:No, it's plugged through the back, and also I doubt it's the audio jacks/cables since I didn't have this issue prior to the upgrade, it happened after I switched to the new mobo, also it doesn't make the sound if I sit idle doing nothing. So, my information is anecdotal, but I'll share anyway. There's an Nvidia rep who I've developed a friendship with at a major LAN event. He said that they ran into manufacturing processes to the folks they outsource to (forgot the name of the company), and that Kepler is delayed till late Q1 or early Q2 2012. Maybe they had some sort of breakthrough in the last three weeks where this is no longer the case, but that seems unlikely.garath said:http://www.anandtech.com/show/4572/kepler-gpus-shipping-this-year-nvidia-says-yes
Nvidia is saying that the next generation of GPU - Kepler - will begin shipping this year. Great news if that's the case. We could see AMD and Nvidia with new gaming cards in short order.
Yeah that sounds more like it, man that sucks if it's really what's causing it since I really don't want to buy/have a sound card when my on board audio is more than capable.Rufus said:I have the same issue. It doesn't annoy me all that much, so I've never seriously looked into solutions to this. Only thing that comes to mind is to use a discrete sound card, which should be a lot less vulnerable to interference, whether that just by virtue of being discrete, using better parts, or some other mechanism to cut down on interference.

It's definitely EMI, a sound card is likely to remedy it (although it will never go away entirely, there's always going to be electromagnetic interference).Nekrono said:Yeah that sounds more like it, man that sucks if it's really what's causing it since I really don't want to buy/have a sound card when my on board audio is more than capable.
This sucks, maybe there's other people with the same issue that have found a fix?

Like Lord Canti said, it's totally up to you whether or not it's worth it. Some people demand total performance, some people are happy with turning a few things down. It's subjective.Ooccoo said:Who has the Nvidia GeForce GTX 580? Is it worth it or should I wait for a price drop?
wonderful. let's all hope the 580's drop in price considerably.garath said:http://www.anandtech.com/show/4572/kepler-gpus-shipping-this-year-nvidia-says-yes

The battery is usually the first thing to go. I doubt it is the cord that is the problem (if it is, a replacement shouldn't be that hard to come by).
grab a new power adapter cord on ebay, just make sure its for your specific model. Gotten a couple chargers before and they were only like 12 bucks eachbrucewaynegretzky said:I know its the cord because when I bend the wire in a certain way it works again.
Thanks. There was a great deal on the Crucial in Canada but I missed it apparently =[LordCanti said:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167049

May have to RMA the Intel model if it has the 8mb bug.

I'm starting to feel the same way and I've only had my rig for a few hours. Long enough to get everything plugged in and organized. The only game I have is Left 4 Dead, but its oh so nice to run it on max everything in a window and still get insane fps.
Outputting netflix to the HDTV hasn't been as nice as watching it on the xbox yet. Maybe I still need to fiddle with some stuff. That and get new batteries for the wireless keyboard, mouse and gamepad. Well at least the mouse works at the moment ;P
Holy hell. Thanks for the details. I've got some research to do.
So now that I'm in PC-GAF is there some kind of cape I can wear or something?
If it's like the P8P67:Firestorm said:Thanks. There was a great deal on the Crucial in Canada but I missed it apparently =[
Anyone know the differences between the Asus P8Z68-V LE, P8Z68-V, and P8Z68-V Pro motherboards? And if there's maybe a better bang for buck one than those?
If you want to run 2 cards, AMD CF is your only option with that MB. There is no issue running 1 Nvidia card.McDouchebag said:I have a question about the Asus P8P67 B3 mobo, since it doesn't support SLI but support CrossFire, should I go for an ATI instead of GeForce? I would.Citizen K said:Hmmm, quick query. Is it worth flashing the latest firmware to a vertex 3 ssd prior to windows 7 installation (assuming it arrives with an older firmware)?

Arsenic said:So I did a build for a friend about 2 months ago and he's thinking about selling his rig. Knowing its a tough market out there to sell a rig with parts already put together, I was wondering how much he should get back. He invested about $1200+. Here are the specs (they are not exact, this is off of memory)
Intel i5 2500k (stock)
Corsair Graphite black steel 600t
1tb HDD
64gb SSD crucial c300 SATAIII
Blu-ray burner
24x dvd drive
(2x4) 8 gigs memory g-skill 9.9.9.24
wireless card
350watt power supply
a graphics card not really worth mentioning, im sure it wouldnt appeal to anyone here and should be replaced.
windows 7 64bit
Just based off of this, how much you think he should be able to get? And where would be the best place to try to sell something of the sort?
DennisK4 said:Question: how many SDD and HDDs can I use with SATA3 6GB/s on this motherboard?
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7, Socket-1155 ATX, Z68, DDR3, 4xPCIe(2.0)x16, CFX&SLI, SATA 6Gb/s, FW,USB 3.0, Dolby,24 phase
I was considering getting a SDD for the OS and two extra HDDs for general storage - all of them with SATA3 6GB/s
But I am not sure if I am limited to only two SATA3 6GB/s drives with the third one just running at the slower SATA2 3GB/s ?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Are you sure? The highlighted sorta reads to me like only two SATA 6GB/sLordCanti said:From the product page on Gigabyte's website:
Chipset:
2 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (SATA3_0, SATA3_1) supporting up to 2 SATA 6Gb/s devices
4 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (SATA2_2~SATA2_5) supporting up to 4 SATA 3Gb/s devices
Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10
* When a RAID set is built across the SATA 6Gb/s and SATA 3Gb/s channels, the system performance of the RAID set may vary depending on the devices being connected.
2 x Marvell 88SE9128 chips:
2 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (GSATA3_6, GSATA3_7) supporting up to 2 SATA 6Gb/s devices
2 x eSATA 6Gb/s connectors (eSATA/USB Combo) on the back panel supporting up to 2 SATA 6Gb/s devices
Support for SATA RAID 0 and RAID 1
Four 6Gb, in other words. Check your manual to make sure you select the correct ones.
Yeah I figured so. When i built the computer for him it sole purpose was to produce music, not gaming. So it's not as appealing as it could have been. Its a nice rig, but definitely short for gaming purposes. Oh well.LordCanti said:I would try for $900 or so, and drop from there. Fleabay/Craigslist is probably your best bet. Craigslist would be ideal, since you wouldn't have to ship it (which would cost quite a bit), but then again, you'd obviously have to be careful about not getting mugged/shot/etc.
Someone could put >$300 into that build and turn it into a great gaming computer, but you'd have to find the guy willing to do it. You certainly couldn't bill it as a gaming rig right now.
