OC'ing is half the reason to go with sandy/ivy. Two values in bios nets you 20-30% linear performance.

It's not the scary thing it used to be. If you are still dead set on not doing it, get an H77.

I don't doubt that, but the ability to OC has a price too (different MB and CPUs, which are quite a bit more expensive), I'm a bit tight, and that's why I was wondering about the H61 since it cost a lot less.

Thanks, guys. Grabbed the TZ77B deal on Newegg, since they're running a MIR and I didn't see any impressive combos.

mkenyon: Not saying I won't OC at all, it's definitely in the cards. Just saying it's staying on air and not too-too loud, so I'm never going to be probing the far limits and don't need diamond-solid OC features, so to speak, when I can get away with rock-solid ones. =D

You don't need high end stuff to top out Ivy. Even for full on proper water cooling, the realistic 24/7 clock is going to be 4.3-4.6, which one can do with a Hyper 212.

Don't buy the EVGA cards. Buy an Arc Midi and a pair of Corsair SP120 quiet editions.

Any guide as to how to do this? Also, what can I expect to get with a 3570K on the stock heatsink safely?
OP. The P67/Z68 are the same as Z77/Ivy, but you just use less voltage.

*edit sorry for double post.

@JJBro The Corsair 500R is on NCIX US for $80, HAFXM on Newegg for cheap.

Phantom 410 is a good case, but I know the NZXT cases can be picky with aftermarket fans, and I can't research on my tablet :)

Definitely keeping an eye on that for upgrade time, maybe even earlier. I did realize it was easier than the AMD egg-fryers I played with in high school, but I didn't realize it was that much cheaper and quieter.

It's almost frustrating how easy it is in a very elitist sort of way. But really, it is freaking awesome that they have made it this easy. On the flip side, that easyness means no OCing non-K parts since BCLK is locked down at 100mhz.

wanna get this doubt cleared since its been a while since ive had the opportunity to check other high-end cards (as in, not mine)

the noise im basically getting with this 680 (and with the previous 670) is something akin to this:

http://youtu.be/-svRvAjgfLQ?t=7m20s

that whine you hear in all 3 of those cards under load. Difference here is that the pitch of that whine changes depending on what's going on in the screen (where I look at, etc)

now, I know this is not the high pitched whine I get when I let frames reach the 1000s and whatnot, but is this still considered coil whine and is it normal on every card?

Seeing all these black friday deals, I think, hopefully, I can go 2 years and build a whole new system on Black Friday deals. I just have to resist the urge for 2 years.

god damn I just ran 3Dmark11 without locking the framerate and man, I thought the noise I was having with v-sync was bad. The chirping the card makes once it surpasses 80fps is INSANE.

I think my dreams of a 120hz monitor with a single card just died :p

dont have $500+ to spend on a monitor anyway

Wut @ the max temps of my motherboard. I left it on overnight to download from Steam.

You need someone else to confirm, but I read somewhere that the AUXTIN value of HWmonitor is pretty much useless anyway. So I wouldn't worry about that.

I have a somewhat open case and I can hear none of that with my 670, even under load. I cap my FPS to 60 in every application, so maybe it would start if I let it run freely. With my 560 Ti I only got the high pitched noise when it got into the 1000 FPS range as well.

OK so this weekend I'm in with a change of updating my desktop.

I've got £200/250max to spend patching it up.

Thinking about going here http://www.falconcomputers.co.uk/ tomorrow to pick some stuff up.

I need a new wifi card too, my current one is terrible.

Dang bruh, looking really nice. How's the 550D?

Pretty good, but crammed for what I have in it, I lost half my sata ports unless I cut more into the case, but I only have an intel 520 480gb in there right now and will probably only add a 2tb black so I dont really need the other ones.

the h100i is pressing on the cpu power connectors, and for the rive to fit I had to cut a decent chunk out of the case near the bottom right corner of the mobo. I knew I was getting into this though when going down in size.

on the + side I added a 3x hdd bay in the top bays leaving the bottom 2x 120mm fans and the area around them open and I might add 2x h80i's and have 1 on each GPU.

No CPU upgrade is going to help you on that motherboard.

I'd get a better GPU like a 6850/6870, a VP450 power supply or similar, then save until you can get a new motherboard and CPU.
Damn, that's nice.

Seem to avg around 45fps @ 2560x1600. Lowest I've seen it get is 30 fps. It's quite the looker. I know I'm late but it looks so good.

Your CPU will still bottleneck.

Here's an example with your CPU vs. Intel's cheapest I would reccomend: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/28?vs=404

That said I highly recommend you get just a TOUCH more money if possible and go with this:
http://www.falconcomputers.co.uk/co.../asrock-skt-1155-ddr3-micro-atx-hdmi-out.html
http://www.falconcomputers.co.uk/co...-socket-1155-sandy-bridge---retail-boxed.html *

http://www.falconcomputers.co.uk/co...ter-gx-lite-500w-86-single-12v-rail-230v.html
http://www.falconcomputers.co.uk/co...gb-ddr5-hd7770-pci-express-graphics-card.html

Totals to 290 quid. I really suggest stretching as you will get a lot more performance out of an HD7770 than an HD7750.
Nothing will beat performance/price from that shop on that budget with quality parts.

On the flip side you can buy a PSU and GPU now with that money and upgrade the rest later. I think actually that would be the way to go if you can't stretch now. *YOU SAID YOU COLD SO WHATEVER*
http://www.falconcomputers.co.uk/co...ter-gx-lite-500w-86-single-12v-rail-230v.html
http://www.falconcomputers.co.uk/co...7870-gddr5-pci-expresss-30-graphics-card.html

Totals to 215 and gives you roughly 3x the GPU power you had before. Your CPU will still hold you back to some degrees, but it's a good place to save for later. Athlon 64 X2 with a 7870 feels funny though. I almost think the CPU disparity is too much and you'd get better FPS with the above config.

Updated. If you nab the 7870 for 175 it'll scream as a system, but that's probably a bit too far out of reach right? Would be 365 total, running away a bit there :p

Ok, so I have a Fractal Arc Midi and an Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard, I'm noticing that the front panel USB3 port is not performing at anything close to USB3 speeds (compared to the ports round the back).

I've tried updating the Intel drivers for this, this doesn't appear to have helped. Does anyone have any experience with this?

So I ended up playing with the voltages on my 3750k anyway. I've found a very stable OC at 4.6 Ghz with 1.368 max Vcore. After hours of prime95 the hottest any of the cores get is 79 and none of them stay that hot. Interestingly when I'm actually running prime95 the vcore alternates between 1.308 and 1.296 according to Hardware Monitor. But when not under load the vcore does go up to 1.368. The cooler is 212 evo.

I feel like my voltage is a little high, but when I go one increment down it crashes after an hour or so of prime95. Since my temps are acceptable, am I ok or should worry about the vcore?

It'll stick around there until the next gen of cards release.

Why not go with a 7970 or 670 4GB? EVGA Kepler cards are pretty bad compared to the competition anyway.

Does anyone have an i3 3220 stock cooler handy? I cannot find the dimensions online and need to know if it is less than 65 mm tall. I found one post on Tom's Hardware suggesting it is only 55 mm tall but a second opinion would be helpful. Would prefer to just use the stock if I can to avoid spending another $30+... Although the Cooler Master GeminII M4 is a pretty sweet replacement cooler, so I won't be too disappointed if I need to grab one.

Why is this? Which brands should one be looking at for a 670?
They run loud and hot, to the point that they down clock under load and have zero OC room unless you are okay with lots of noise.

Gigabyte Windforce is king, ASUS DCII, MSI Twin Frozr, and some other dual fan options are good.
