Just ordered MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3 :)
Cheaper than GTX760 which I have considered, because I have less than 27cm GPU space. This 7950 should fit and hopefuly it will be overclock as well as my 5850!

Should be a great uprade for my 4-years old rig:
Code:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 2,66GHz @ 3,66 GHz
2x4GB GoodRam 1333 MHz
ATI Powercolor Radeon HD 5850 @ 950/1300
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W

Love em. They look nice. But there are better options for cheaper.

Could you recommend me some alternatives? I'm actually in for the performance rather than the looks :p but I heard they run much quieter since they are run up to 1500rpm compared to the 1700(?) rpm for the stock fans.

edit: just wanted to add that I would prefer 4 pin alternatives.

Is it worth ordering a 1155/1150 bracket for my old Coolmaster V8 cooler or am I better off buying a new Hyper 212 Evo?

My CPU is the 3570K.

Yeah, the performance difference is very small. I wish I could wait till 8XX but I want to play my games again and with BF4 etc releasing soon, I'll take any high-end card around €360 or cheaper :p

I should really decide sometime soon though. I've been looking at HD 7970's and GTX 770's for days now, while also reading 280X reviews etc.

280x or 770 should be good. The ACX model is alot more quiet then the defualt shrouds. Should be about a 10-20% Increase. Depends on what you want I guess. I mean the 800 series is likely to be late 2014 now so might be a bit of a wait. There is a Rumor of a 770 GTX Boost ( Cut down 780 ) so maybe go with EVGA and use the step up program?

ACX is definitely my choice atm. I just hope it won't suffer from coil whine, that's about the only negative thing I've found while reading user reviews etc about the model.

I need some advise guys. I've got Phenom2 X4 945 3,2 GHz, Radeon 5830 1GB and 4GB ram. I want to upgrade my GPU but I don't know which one should i get and not to be limited by my CPU. I got around 300$ to spend.

edit: I play only on 1680 x 1050 resolution

Sapphire 7950 for $190

Also get a Hyper 212 for $20 and overclock that CPU.

You can get a 7970 too for $290 but it's not as good value, price still too high on them really.

Yeah, my 760 ACX has quite a bit of coil whine. I mostly game with headphones so I don't really care, but it's definitely noticeable. It's funny, I was testing out different settings in BF4 and could roughly guess my GPU utilization just by the variation in coil whine volume.

Is this an ACX specific issue or do most coolers have the whine? I often use headphones as well, but I can see it irritating me when I'm just randomly browsing the web.

I have no idea, I'd never noticed it with any other card I've owned. It was really bad when I first installed it and ran the Windows Experience assessment or whatever it's called. It literally sounded like a small mammal was dying inside my PC. Since then it's gotten much quieter, and I only hear it when the GPU is being stressed.

I found the scaling option in the CCC but it doesn't work. I tried to run Crysis 3 at 720p but I have big borders everywhere - it doesn't fill the whole screen. I at least thought my TV would automatically switch to that resolution. Any ideas?

I'm fine with buying from other places, I was looking at ncix because they have stores near my house.

Just make sure to take advantage of their price match policy.

Yeah do that. For $1500 I have thrown this together as an idea with plenty of wiggle room

So I am currently running a HD 6850 1GB. Anyone have a recommendation for an upgrade that wont beak the bank? Sub $200 would be great.

That looks pretty great, Looking at benchmarks there is not a very big difference between the 7950 and 7970 correct?

You can get a 7950 up to 7970/280X levels when overclocked and a bit beyond, but then in turn you can of course overclock the 7970/280X and go well beyond that. 7970 is still a great high end card and when at 1.1GHz is almost on a par with the 780.

A 7970 you're looking $270-280 at the minute and $320 for a 280X (which is just a re-named 7970). All depends on how much you want to spend.

Hm, I think a 7950 should be sufficient. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

MSI Gaming GTX 770 is €340

Afaik, I've heard the cooler is comparable to ACX and its performance is a little better it seems.

So i decided to skip out on next Gen for at least a year but I need to get something. I put together a system early this year, it's my first in over a decade and I have fallen in love with pc gaming. Here's the deal, I run a 7770 right now, it's very much the weak point on my pc, im going to upgrade...the 7870 can be found cheap but for 40-50 more i can score a 7950, is the jump in price worth it? Benchmarks dont seem to put the 7950 that far ahead of the 7870.

Well, got my 7970 CF setup and also updated to the new 13.11 beta drivers... which broke on me (.NET framework errors) which is a Windows problem.

Anyway everything works. Was no where near as painful to get going as I was expecting and FFXIV used it correctly from the getgo. Game still has some crappy optimization with AMD cards, but... I was getting about 180 fps in some outdoor areas. :D

All that's left is my PSU so I can bump the clocks a bit without worry.

Question for some of you pc folks. I have some old hardware such as a 9800 pro gfx card, a T5500 Core2Duo, amongst others. Is this stuff worth anything or worth the effort to try and get rid of? Or should I just pitch it in the trash?

9800 isn't worth much, but your core 2 duo with motherboard might be worth around 40-50$

Hey guys, I am considering upgrading my computer but I'm not sure if now is a good time or not. Starting to think it might be time to at least upgrade my CPU/GPU. I assume I would need to upgrade my motherboard as well? I have heard rumors from some friends that there might be price drops on graphics cards in November, not sure if anyone knows though?

I currently have (built in June 2010 except I have upgraded the memory and bought the 2 TB HDD):

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor
16 GB of RAM: 2x CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
GPU: SAPPHIRE 100281-3SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0
PSU : CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W
Case: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
HDD: Western Digital WD Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5 and Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5

Do you guys think it would be worth upgrading now or should I wait till early next year or some other time? Price won't be a big issue whenever I do upgrade, I want a machine that will last at least a few years haha. I mainly use my PC for gaming and general use. Some games I currently play or am going to be getting are BF4, Titanfall, Payday 2, Borderlands 2, etc. I'm open to overclocking but I have no experience with it at all.

If I were to upgrade right now, I think I would go with GTX 770 4 GB (unless the 780 would be worth upgrading to instead... Titan is outside of my price range though). For a processor I am fine with any of the i7's listed in the build guide, just not really sure what one would be best for gaming. Thoughts?
I would upgrade at least the CPU. I haven't looked at graphics cards for a while but that 770 sounds pretty good.

Even at 1.1 you are still looking at a 10-17% difference with a stock 780. I'd go with a 280X if possible

9800 as in the ATi card or NVidia, if its the Nvidia it might get 30-40$ or can be used as a physx card

Time to start the upgrade ^^

EDIT: Also, I could probably use a camera. I suck with my noisy phone camera.

Thoughts on building a PC right now around the 280x? I was planning on doing so for what would be my first build, but after seeing everyone freaking out over the recommended specs for Watch Dogs and COD: Ghosts I'm a little bit afraid that whatever I do end up buying is going to be outdated in a year or less.
