Does anyone have a recommendation for a Processor/GPU for video editing?

Going to be starting my own website soon - it's a bit of a gamble but I think I can earn money from it... (I think - will take me a year or two to find out)

And I'll be needing to edit upwards of 200+ videos and leaving several flash programs on loop while recording.
Yes - sounds a lot - but over time....!

Currently have i5 4670k oc'ed & GTX 770 Graphics card

Wondering if it's worthwhile having a separate PC for this

I keep looking at GPUs and yet I keep forgetting I need a new HDD as not even 1TB is enough to hold all the Steam games. I'm not even sure 2TB will be enough and looking at the prices...yikes!

Your PC is more than powerful enough. If the video editing software you're using takes advantage of GPU acceleration in some way, even better!

i need a serious answer honestly right now as the guy is waiting for my answer.

he wants to trade with me. I give him my XFX R9 290 and he will give me watercooled r9 290x water cooled by KRAKAN 10G . I have to pay him 200$ extra.

my only problem with my video card is it reach 90 under heavy usage. and I did not OC it or anything.

So I've been trying to figure out what to do in terms of a computer monitor, not entirely sure I should spring a bunch of money on one (I'd love to get the new ROG Swift, but really don't want to shell out $800), or just go nice an cheap and convenient. I've been looking at the following two options thus far:

Should I go with this, which I can get currently for $135

or, should I dish out some more in order to get this?

My graphics card is a GTX 780 FYI

Or is there a better quality/more efficient moniter in the price ranges I'm going for?

Anyone looking to offload a cpu/mobo combo? A friend of mine's QX6800 is dying and he's looking for a good deal on an older sandy bridge or ivy bridge.

Hmm I'd go for a gsync monitor at this point, considering you already have a Nvidia card. I don't have gsync monitor myself so I can't really recommend one.

Any gsync monitor or one compatible with the DIY kit is going to push him over $500.

Is the DIY kit even available anymore? I looked on Nvidia's site and couldn't find it. I'm planning on upgrading from my 7970 to an 880 and want to make my VG248QE G-Sync ready at the same time.

Also, is it a difficult job to install that?

It looks like The WS board has more CPU power (2x 8 pin) than even the Rampage V. And in a better color scheme imo. I like the ROG theme but not a big fan of how Asus uses it on their boards. It probably OCs just as well except in a LN2 setup or something.

This would be the board I'd get if I was doing a high end X99 setup.

I know this thread is geared towards gaming PCs, but I am looking for the cheapest budget PC that will only primarily be used for Office, namely Excel. Whatever can make it run fast but also able to calculate complex workbooks without bogging the computer down.

I attempted to assemble a list of parts, tried getting a Mobo/CPU combo and it brought the entire price of the build shy $150. Although with something that cheap I have to wonder how long it will last.

At this point I'm like fuck it just get a Dell pre-built, but how much RAM do you think is needed? I've read 4GB is plenty but make sure the CPU is atleast 2.2GHz? Would Excel really utilize 4 cores, seems crazy to me.

In short just need the cheapest PC for basic web browsing and intensive Excel use.

Hey guys,

I'm looking to build a work computer that can easily run 3D Maxx, Photoshop and Kinect V1 & V2 (my company just bought both for a new project we have). One thing that is somewhat important for me is form factor as I'll most likely have to carry the tower around to show off demos we make.

This is our current work computer:

Dell XPS 8500 Model
Win 7 64 bit
16 GB ram
Intel Core i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz

I'm looking to see if I can build on top of this PC instead of starting fresh. Might need to get a smaller case as the current one is too huge, any recommendations? I know jack diddly squat about computers so I came here for help.

You could remove the CPU and put it in a new motherboard/case for something SFF. To really get more power out of it though, all those applications are very CPU-oriented, so you'd likely need to get a new CPU in order to see improvements.

Let me know either way and I can start to give you a basic rundown of what you'll need.

I suspected as much since this won't be a gaming PC. Would I need a stronger GPU to go with it or is my current one fine?

Guys help

Should I spend $55 more on an 850W PSU that will let me crossfire my 290? I'm not sure a single one will be enough for 95fps 1440p for the rift CV1.

I've also heard that latency makes crossfire/SLI bad for VR, but it also sounds like there are potential solutions to that that might show up within the next year.

Is it worth it in general just to have a stronger PSU? Or should I get the cheaper 650w one and put the money towards a better single gpu in the future?

I'd buy a G-Sync monitor...if they actually had enough options and more affordable.

I can say the same thing about a Ferrari. :)

What options are you looking for? There will be more affordable G-Sync monitors soon. I'm pretty sure the 24inch Asus one will be around $400.

Hi there guys. I'm putting together a machine to do 3d rendering and After Effects for a friend's music video for the next couple of months, but I can't bring myself to purchase a PC that I won't be able to use for gaming after that. So I came up with this:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2CYsVn

(first thing you may notice is that there is no GPU, well I'm waiting for that at the moment, plus the program he uses has no GPU rendering)

I've never built with the i7 39xx or i7 49xx end of Intel CPUs so I would appreciate if someone could point out some obvious red flags, if they are there.

Wait until tomorrow, brand new 2011 CPUs coming from Intel with Haswell-E.

WAIT!

You'll also need a GPU as iirc LGA 2011 has no iGPU.

Thanks buddy that looks really nice. With the RAM and SSD suggested by Amazon and an OS I'm looking at 500 dollars.

Any reason why I should avoid buying a 200 dollar pre built system from Dell? Just curious if that has more to do with processing power or what kind of chip.
Holy crap, I must have misread your post. I was thinking you were saying you could get mobo/proc combos for $200. Ignore my post if you can get a prebuilt for that kind of cash. Just about anything will be able to do browsing and video playback.
Ah, missed that, I believe its AMD Radeon HD 7570
So were you wanting to build a whole machine? Keep the proc?

Well more than just that, but also for serious Excel use...that's about as intensive as its going to get.

This is why I'm thinking of going with a cheap 1080p 60hz monitor for now, and just waiting it out...
Counter to what Smokey is saying, I don't think we're likely to see a substantial decrease in price, especially looking at 1440p or larger panels.

$800 for a 1440p 144Hz panel with a G-Sync kit seems totally reasonable to me. I mean, a quality 1080p 144Hz panel is $300. A quality 1440p 60Hz panel is $500. G-Sync kits are $200. $250 monitors with the kits installed are $500.
