So my video card may be on its death bed (currently troubleshooting the issue here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=127168496#post127168496)

I've been out of the loop for a while now ever since I got my GTX 580 a few years ago, and since it appears as if I may need to buy another one rather imminently, I was wondering what would make the most sense to replace it for something equal or better in the current nvidia line of products.

How does the GTX 760 compare?

A GTX 760 is only a small step up from a 580.

If you're basically fine with your current performance, then it's a good choice. Faster, uses less power, and more VRAM. But if you want a real upgrade, as you can see you'd need a 770.

Current setup:
- i5 4670k
- R9 290 Tri-X
- NH-D14
- Benq xl2411z

I am satisfied with the current setup. It can run almost everything on ultra in 60fps and temps/noise are decent.
However, cheap R9 290s (miners are selling them) got me thinking about buying another one and maybe switching to water cooling.
Does anyone have experience with r9 290 crossfire? Will I be getting fps closer to 120 and will noise/temps be a lot worse?

Ignore everything and buy my extra 290 for super cheap and put it under water like I did :D

Haven't bothered to put my other 290 in even since there's nothing I really care about super maxing TBH.

Hey guys. Broke my headset yesterday like a chump and I'm in a living hell playing Dota without one. I was thinking about the Logitech G430 as a replacement but the reviews are all over the place. Does anyone have any experience with these or any recommendations other than the ones in the OP? I'm looking to spend no more than £50 but probably could go £10 extra if it came to it.

Since I'm sticking to 1080p gaming for now, is it safe to say that if I buy a GTX 880 when it's released, it should be able to run basically anything at a stable 60 FPS + Ultra?

(I know how sweeping of a generalization that is, but just go with it)

Please give me advice on two cards that cost almost the same in Czech Republic.
My main points are of course power now, bud also very much longevity of the card (especially in terms of VRAM from what I understand):

R9 280 with 3GB

vs.

R9 270X with 4GB

GO!

I'd say go with the 280

280.

Few games would take advantage of the extra RAM in the 270, every game can use the extra power of the 280.

Considering the numbers are that it's at least 25% more efficient than a 780ti + 4GB VRAM, I would say you could at least make a reasonable assumption about it. :l
No one knows how upcoming games are going to perform or how far devs are going to push things now that they are no longer scaling PS360 into the equation or if they'll decide Ultra settings should scale for people with SLI/Xfire/TitanZ/295X2, etc.

It's the closest you are going to get to every game at 1080p60. No one can say it will all run at max, but it will be the best you can do on a single card.

It seems that the Gsync DIY kit is not on sale on Nvidia's website. How long before there are more in stock? I know this has happened at least once in the past. I was just about to purchase a kit. Only a bit concerned that there is no notice stating that the kit is just out of stock.

This is probably too early to answer but its on my mind anyways. Where will I get better performance on a game like Witcher 3 from My computer (2500K, NVidia 580) or PS4?

A question about crossfire bottlenecking, I have:
Quad-core Intel Q9450 (2.66 GHz, similar to the popular Q6600), OC'd ~3.2ghz
4gb ram
Radeon 6950

I'm now thinking of buying another used 6950 for crossfire (they're pretty cheap), do you think my CPU will bottleneck it? I Googled a bit earlier, some even suggested one 6950 alone could be bottlenecked by that CPU... others saying the opposite, that CF in general should work. I'll be playing in 1080p, big variety of games.

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, are Labor Day deals typically a thing for PC Parts? I'm going to order most of my parts once I get paid on Friday, should I expect to see sales this weekend/monday?

Hey guys,

Really thankful for this thread. Built my own personal rig 2 years ago and still happily rocking it, but starting to think about future upgrades as I like to plan things out as much as I can.

I'm currently rocking a GTX 660 2 GB and, as my entire knowledge about building rigs comes from this thread, I'm a bit unsure of where to go with respect to upgrade.

Ultimately, I'd like to stick with NVidia. Any suggestions?

Wait until Nvidia's September press conference to unveil the 800 series GPUs, then start planning from there.

Alright PCGaf. The woman in the flat above me has started complaing about the sound from my new pc in the bedroom. I only have it coming out of the TV but this seems too much for her. Super strange as i have a 5.1 system in the lounge as well as an electric guitar which i use LOUDLY and that doesn't seem to bother her. Go figure.

Anyways, if i'm going to drop some pennies on good headphones, what are the reccomendations?

I have a friend who swares by his Sennheiser HD650 Reference Over-Ear Headphone
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD650-Reference-Over-Ear-Headphone/dp/B00018MSNI/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409152758&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=senhizer+hd650

I've also heard great things here about the Philips Fidelio X1:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Fidelio-X1-00-Headphones-Silver-Black/dp/B008ZW2T7M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409152995&sr=8-1&keywords=philips+x1

What else is good in that kind of range? Which AKG are of similar quality? The same for Beyerdynamic?

Can i drive all of these without having to use an external amp?

I currently don't use a soundcard. I have a Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI FORMULA Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard and just use the on board sound.

If i get headphones that are reference quality is that going to be a waste of cash if i don't have an Amp or dedicated soundcard?

Many thanks guys :)

I have the Philips X1s and I have been nothing but happy with them. Wonderful soundstage for great positional sound. Best headphone sound I've ever had. I don't have an amp or a stand alone sound card, just my on-board sound.

Got my build put together last night. Everything seems good and it POSTed fine.

Do some motherboards just not come with a buzzer? All the MBs I've gotten previously seemed to have an onboard buzzer (IIRC). This one doesn't seem to come with one. (ASRock Z97 Extreme3).

Does it matter if it's a fairly crap mobo I know i gonna be shit on for it but ive seen a pre-build for £380
i5 4460
8gb ddr3 1600
1tb hd
cx 600 psu
case is corsair carbide spec 01
and the disgusting Gigabyte H81M-H.
Not planning on buying anyting to maybe friday or mid next week. As I have mentioned this is a pre-build, question is the mobo be ok for now I dont care about OC just want it to last half a year that's all, i wanna stay within that budget as the misses is not keen on me getting one anyway. Going to put a r9 280x in it for now. It seems impossible to build better for the same price so will this be ok for up to 6 months?

Guys how easy is it to install a CPU cooler on a AM3+ boards? My current stock cooler is noisy as hell even thought the CPU temps are fine. Would like to replace it with a cheapish CM TX3 or something.

Only problem is I have no experience in installing something like that.

If you don't "need" a headset just grab one of these. You can't mute it on the fly but if you already have headphones they're fucking insane value for money.

Or one of those! \/

You might want to consider this, just a microphone. You will need to register though to see it but it is modmic for $35. For me it is $7,37 to ship to the Netherlands, so I assume it would be around the same for the UK. $5 extra for a version with mute button.

Very good impressions though.

This is what I am getting, since I am fed up with (gaming) headsets.

If I'm currently using an FX4100, would it bottleneck a Powercolor 7870? I'm worried it will, and will need to upgrade my CPU.
Yes and no. Depends on the game in question. You'll see gains with any video card upgrade, but you'll still be held back in games that prioritize high IPC (instructions per clock) for CPU performance.

Have you looked into the ModMic? It's pricey, but it's the first mic I've heard that sounds as good as the high end Sennheiser mic. Better than the Blue Yeti/Snowball, IMO.

Thanks, that makes sense. I think I'm going to look into getting an FX6100.

That's 2 votes for the X1's, anyone else?

That won't help you very much. You need to get off the AMD platform for the most part, TBH. Something like the Intel G2358 + $100 Z79 ASRock + Heatsink + Overclock would help tons.

c3-fps.gif

Do you mean to get the most out of my card, one of those solutions would work best? Also, I plan on going nvidia/intel when I build again probably mid-late next year.
