Also, what about enabling TRIM and other tips for my build?

rocking 16GB DDR3-1333 currently from my 2011 build, but now with Z97 and I7-4970k what should I get? Also using Noctua NH-D14 (so a few towering RAMsinks will not work).
Sounds perfect, thanks for the reply!The GTX 970 sounds exactly like what you want. It's better to know what your system specs are like to better recommend something that will fit in your PC and case, but I think the EVGA GTX 970 SC ($308 after $25 rebate) should be just fine for your needs. It's a relatively normal sized card that isn't too long or tall and is most likely to fit into your case. It's also is one of the lower cost GTX 970 models available, so while you do have to spend a little above your $300 budget, it's the best for what you want (you want it to remain capable for the next 3 years). The GTX 970 will handle the latest games at fairly high-to-ultra settings for the next few years and also maybe hit 60FPS comfortably, although specific performance will depend on what games you play on it.
Otherwise if it's just a bit too expensive for you and/or you don't mind playing at somewhat lower settings, there's the GTX 960. I'd recommend the 4GB model if possible for longevity and a lesser chance of bottlenecking in the future, but even more than that if you can afford the GTX 970, get that instead.
Hey pals, i ordered a Pc from Ebay and this is my problem: Power on->The fans start, stop for a sec, and start again running all, except one on the backside of the case
-No Mainboard Beep, no signal on the monitor
-Already tested to remove the Ram in both slots, insterted only one at a time, at both slots, no change
-Tried hdmi slot of the gpu and the mainboard, no change
-No vga cable here atm
-Warranty till Januar on all parts

My next step would be to try out to only connect the mainboard, cpu and gpu to the power supply but i have to get some tools beforehand, and wanted to know if the fan thing is a clear indicator for a problem with the power supply.

Remove the GPU, plug the HDMI into the motherboard. See if you get a display. You can unplug all fans except the CPU fan, also you can unplug any hard disks.
Tried it, no result.
Only thing i noticed: No ram plugged in-> The fans start and stop 3 times in a row and then keep running, except the one on the backside of the case, this one stops

Just FYI, If a xeon ends in xxx5, it has onboard gpu.Ah forgot that, they cannot. So you will need the GPU.

I will eventually upgrade from the 970 and give it to her, so in preparation for that, I will probably have to go for the "Great" template. This is what I've come up with so far. Anything I could trim? I'm thinking the CPU could be something cheaper.

Ah forgot that, they cannot. So you will need the GPU.
The PC will not start without RAM, so dont bother trying without it - the result you got there was expected.
Can you unplug all case fans, plug the rear case fan into another port, then start the PC up. Possibly its the port or the fan.
Just FYI, If a xeon ends in xxx5, it has onboard gpu.

Ok, I'm assuming you monitored the temperature of your CPU and GPU, am I correct?
In order to test your RAM modules, you can use memtest86: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
In order to exclude any software anomalies, I would advise you to reset windows after backing up your data. Do you remember upgrading your GPU drivers recently?
Let's try to exclude these factors first before anything else.

Buy the Ram from another site and put it in yourself. It's just a matter of 1 minute and is really the easiest part of assembling a PC. You can buy it from Ncixus too of course but the Ram's are horribly overpriced there for whatever reason.
Windows is missing from my build but I don't really know what it takes to get Windows 10. I think buying Windows 8 and then upgrading to Windows 10 works but I'm not sure. Or maybe there's a cheaper way to get Windows 10 I don't know. Maybe others can help.
With the Ram, windows and assembly you would be at around 1950$
Also do you plan on overclocking your CPU? If not you could save a little more money on the CPU, CPU cooler and Motherboard. I would recommend buying an i7-6700k at that price range but Ncixus doesn't have them.

did this real quick. i'm not in the US so not 100% sure about the prices. just basing this on what i'm familiar with here in the UK. also i didn't know if you needed wireless internet/dvd drive so just added them anyway. you can ignore them if you don't need them. the OS here is windows 10 but you might be able to get 8/8.1 cheaper and just do the free upgrade to 10. i've put 8GB ram but you might be just fine with 4GB. same for the storage, this has 1TB but if you don't need that much just go for a smaller drive.

Here's some information on some of the newer Toshiba drives. Hitachi and HGST I'm not so sure about, they seem to be focused on enterprise level drives. You could come back and post here about which specific drive models you found available to buy and we can further help you research them.

I saved $100 with virtually no performance drop, as those alternate parts don't influence performance very much. The RAM and PSU are actually better than your old choices, both in terms of cost and speed/wattage. The NZXT case is cheaper, but is still relatively decent going by most reviews. The Acer monitor is quite good as it's cheap without needing a rebate, same size as the Asus model you were looking at, and on Amazon has a very high rating of 4.3 stars out of 5 after nearly ~2400 reviews. Not sure why it's only rated at 3.5 stars on Newegg after ~180 reviews.

Yeah, looks like the Toshiba is your best bet. WD Greens are undesirable for having low RPM in the ~5400RPM range that means somewhat lower performance and a questionable feature called "head parking".

Why DDR3 over DDR4? I assumed DDR4 was better. Why a 550W PSU? I see a lot of them at 750W and I don't really want to skimp on something like that.
Also, water cooling...I wasn't planning on having it. Is there any maintenance required? Why cool with both water and air?
And what made you pick that case? Is there a BR player in this build?

So I wanted to build the enthusiast build but my desk is apparently 1 inch too short for a full size ATX case and my solution of letting it hang over was vetod.
I tried to adapt it to an mATX case. Does everything here look ok?

I'd be playing at 1080p and 30 FPS is fine. Only other thing I"d use it for is SPSS and R.
Maybe switch to a Z170 motherboard (Possibly the AsRock Z170M Pro4S, MSI Z170 MORTAR, ASUS Z170M-PLUS or the Gigabyte GA-Z170MX Gaming 5), since you went with a -K proc.

I was looking at other alternative miniITX cases that would be less likely to need liquid cooling, and I stumbled upon this video of the Silverstone Raven RV01. Seems like there's enough airflow for one to properly utilize something like a Zalman CNPS8900 Quiet CPU Cooler.
I also went to my local Microceneter to ask for some expertise, but unfortunately the only personal there are only aquianted with full-sized ATX boards.
All-in-all, I'm still trying to calculate the logistics of having a completely air-cooled i7-CPU/R390-to-Nano GPU in an ITX case. I know it's not impossible...
I checked the Neutron: It's roughly the same size and dimensions as my current miniATX case, the Antec VSK-3000 *It's even larger, actually!). Seeing how the other ITX cases manage to fit in full-length cards, there has got to be a better solution than a bigger case.It'd be trivially easy in that Rosewill Neutron. It's not entirely impossible in the Nebula. Just gotta be careful about video card and CPU cooler selection in the latter - The Neutron will fit whatever you want.
