I went with a Noctua NH-U14S, always like their coolers. Everything arrived pretty quick, so I have been using the new build since Tuesday. The video card was from the EVGA queue that you can put in for, which I did forever ago and got selected on the 12th.
If you are in the queue are you paying msrp?

Nice. I have my eyes on the Asus Strix OC one but if that becomes too hard to get I may get in the EVGA queue.
Might as well do it now, you only buy if you get selected and you can always pass at the time.

Think a 3060 would get me through the next 5 console years or so?
Depends on a few things. What games you like to play, what resolution, what settings are acceptable to you etc. comparing PC vs console right now if price is even in the top 5 list of criteria is a losing proposition, it's just not a great time for us PC bros. That said, if you have everything else and just need a video card, the 3060 is fantastic, and not quite as inflated as its big brothers, although still scarce. There is not a single PC game right now or in the near future that would make sense to pay scalper prices for though.

You’re on the money. I just built a pc with all new parts EXCEPT the video card. New MB, SSD drives, 16 GB DDR4 Ram, R7 CPU. Right now I still have my old Nvidia 970 in it.

I would never pay a scalper. So I am willing to queue up and way for a card at MSRP. But even at MSRP the 3070s on up are ridiculous right now. I’m looking at the 3060 and it’s a full $100 cheaper. So my only question is will the 3060 keep up with the current consoles the entire time?

If you're talking about the non Ti version of the 3060, I wouldn't bother. BUT if you're talking about the 3060 Ti, yeah, it will stand up with the consoles the entire time. The 3060 non Ti belongs in a dumpster somewhere. Especially at these absurd prices.

Hey, I came across this yesterday. He basically put together a sheet of all graphics cards, ranking them from lowest to highest in price/performance for inflated pricing. Funnily enough, I bought a GT 1030 just recently for a family member's build. I kind of wish I had known what a horrible value that was.

I bought a 3090FE in January, which replaced my 2070s. It has a waterblock attached to it. Looking at the prices of these cards I want to sell that thing and recoup my costs for the 3090. But, then I have this thing in hand that everyone wants and that makes me want to keep it.

I've never ever sold any of my old hardware. It just goes unused in boxes after years of neglect and eventually gets sent to the dump. I still have my 980ti. I wonder if anyone wants that thing too.

Same. I have a 3080 FE and a GTX 1070. Selling either would simply be out of greed due to the artificial bubble.

Interesting that you don't sell your old hardware, though. One of the odd things that can maintain value are motherboards. I struggled really hard two months ago trying to find a half-decent Z170 ITX mobo for a decent price, and ended up paying a pretty penny. As a result, I'll be selling my older Z170 ATX mobo for no less than I purchased it for a few years ago: $129 MSRP vs. $80-$100 on Ebay. I've learned that while used CPU's are easy to come by, older mobo's with the specific features are not.

What are the odds that any of us regular folk will be able to get their hands on a 3080ti? Do you think the stores will have any bot protection in place?

You'll have as much a chance as you do now with the current GPUs. Bot protection? I doubt it. And if they do, it won't last long.

I have what is probably an irrational apprehension to dealing with the selling process. I looked on facebook locally and it appears my area doesn't have much in the higher end level of hardware. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I have no experience selling anywhere other than ebay.

Your experience with mobo selling goes against my assumption that nobody would want this outdated crap. It's probably why I never sold my old stuff.

thinking about building a gaming pc soon, never done it before and haven’t had a gaming pc either so hoping for some advice. i’d also like to stream as well in the future, what should i go for? could probably put £2000-£2500 towards the pc itself.

is buying a pre built bad? always see lots of negative comments towards them. or should i just wait until supply is better and maybe newer cpu/gpus are out?

also what would be a good 144hz 1440p monitor? any advice is welcome.

Signed up for the auto-notify with the EVGA ftw3. By the time I'm selected the I'll probably be in the 3080Ti queue as well lol. I wonder how they'll price it? I'm thinking the price hike probably won't be worth it.

This is my watercooled i9-9900k and 3090FE. Xtia Xproto case. Just completed it after some issues with a different PSU.

looks like something you find under the hood of a sports car
The way I have assembled the radiators is not how it's intended, but my pump/res is too big to accommodate the radiator bracket. It supposed to be 1 radiator on either side of the machine. I had to make butterfly wings out of the brackets and make a wall of fans. I don't think this case makes for a good watercooling project either. It looks fantastic with air cooled setups.

There is nothing wrong with buying a prebuilt just a hard time finding them in stock like all other stuff.

As far as 1440p monitors go there are a lot of great options out there and used to love my LG 27GN850 until I replaced it with the LG 27GN950 that is 4k 144hz

Very unique. I like the use of the black Noctua's and soft tubing. How do you plan on orienting? Any worries about the fans being openly exposed?

Orienting what? This is complete, minus all the plugged in wires. I won't picture my desk because it's a mess right now, but I have a 34" ultrawide monitor and this will be set to the left and just behind the monitor. The fans will be up against the wall with maybe 4 inches of clearance.

If you've never seen pictures of other Xproto builds the case can be laid on it's side or vertical like mine. The difference with mine is I've added the water cooling kit which offsets their panels so you can only sit it vertically. Here's a horizontal pic, along with one of the most incredible wire jobs I've seen.

Oh and open areas on both sides of my fan/radiators make for easy vacuum access. The fact that it's an open case, makes me more aware of the dust situation. It's a pain to get inside any enclosed case and clean all the tight spots.

Just got notifications that Best Buy put up 6 different PCs for sale all with 3090s (dunno if it helps anyone me bumping this if anyone is looking for a prebuilt)

Sadly they are all fairly expensive machines close to $6000 but one of them is $3700

Holy hell. That is waaaay too much money. By the time I get a 3090, it will be at MSRP and I will have spent less than $2,000 total.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
My 3080 build that I pulled the plug on earlier in the month, the company now if you price up the build again have an ETA of September for the delivery if you placed it today.

I recently signed up for an EVGA 3080 queue and those that signed up in Sept of last year are currently being notified (~7mos. delay).

Its crazy how far behind things are falling.

I notice the scalpers are not scooping up those $6000 PCs on Best Buy. Guess thats one way to have "stock" double the price

thanks, the pre built one i was looking at actually was around the same price as buying all the parts myself and that’s even if i managed to get a gpu. i think i might wait now though and see what prices are like around the end of the year. i checked out that LG monitor though looks good!

Then might be able to even snag the fabled 3080ti

Any recommendations for extended mousepad?
I use razer viper ultimate and I am mostly a wrist gamer.
My razer gigantus v2 gets dirty white and hard to clean in this spots. So maybe i would like something more rubberized to not get as dirty?
I also keep it on edge of my desk and gigantus started frying a bit and it's irritating my wrist.
And I want it to be quiet when I move my mouse.... a lot of requirements :p

So just pulled the trigger with my upgrade, i already have bought the CPU, VGA and the case, any comments would be appreciated (i can still change the rest in amazon) although i ran it through PC part picker and didn't see any flags bare one about USB C port and the case IO.

Component
CPU AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor
CPU Cooler Cooler Master MASTERAIR MA620M 57.3 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard Asus ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
Storage Samsung 980 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card Zotac GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB GAMING Twin Edge OC Video Card
Case Lian Li O11 Dynamic Mini ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply Silverstone SX-PT 750 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply

I'm a little wary of the power supply since i have like 3 extra mechanicals drive i might plug, i'm definitely putting in my 8TB barracuda, it's almost full of VR porn, that stuff really takes space.

I think it's solid, though I think you would benefit from faster RAM (3600) and a better brand (G.SKILL).

i'll take a look, didn't even see anything other than 3200 on amazon or part picker so i didn't considered it.
I'm alright with corsair though, never had a problem with them in all of my rigs ...until now atleast.

Edit: and done, went with the 3600 corsair, only 20 bucks more. Thanks.

where did you manage to get a graphics card from? are you using a stock checker?
Who? me?
I got one a couple of months ago in Japanese amazon, they were still going at MRSP until the stock dried. This was like in January or February IIRC.

Wary that the power isn't enough? That's not an issue. 750 will be plenty with the extra drives.

Can someone tell me where I can sign up for the waiting list on a 3060, 3070 or 3080?
I think EVGA might be the only place doing a list. Otherwise sign up for a stock notification thing like stockdrops and hope you can click fast enough and you're lucky.

Didn't realize how much I could get for my old 1050 Ti I had lying around, so I sold it. I guess this craze isn't ending anytime soon?

i really wanna build a pc but these gpu prices are actually disgusting

Its just crazy I feel super lucky I was able to snag some prebuilts before prices went just stupid.

Sadly too you read reviews of some prebuilts and people brag about buying them just for the GPUs either to scalp or mine

i did my research and on the parts i needed i can get them for £980 excluding the gpu, i wanted to either go for a ASUS 3080 or MSI with the retail prices for those being around £800-850 i think but they just aren’t available anywhere and even legit retailers are increasing the prices.

the pre built that i mentioned when we last spoke i thought was well priced but after finding out all the part prices it doesn’t sound great now as they wanted £2488 vs the around £1800 if i built it myself.

it will be my first time building one and recently i’ve really wanted to have a go at building one and having a gaming pc but i feel like i should just wait until next year or something when (hopefully) prices are lower.

Its very satisfying building your own PC and if anyone has not done it before its well worth the effort if you can get the parts.

I have built a few of my own and now just to the point where I just want to plug in the power cord and start downloading games :)

yeah that was another reason i didn’t want to go with the pre built in the end i thought it would be good to have a go myself and see the finish product once done rather than just having it turn up all built but if the pre built wasn’t like 600 more i’d go for it, just seems way too much for someone to build it. only thing i’m nervous about is doing the cable management and getting everything neat looking :pie_grinning_smiling: .

My first build looked horrible was probably 20 years ago or so with a state of the art Voodoo 2 cards running in SLI (cant remember the main graphics card) with a 1 GHz Pentium 3 and a whopping 128 mgs of RAM in a massive generic care that had like 5 CD Rom bays

Just another bump as Best Buy has some prebuilt 3080 systems in the $2000 range.

I really need to turn off notifications for these systems coming in stock :)
