Okay so the new machine has been on the side of the couch hooked up to a portable monitor and mini keyboard since late saturday. I was doing sessions getting it set up optimally for our loungeflow, and it's pretty good now. After checking out a few of these new distros that have the game mode (console-style) sessions, I found that sadly, Wife won't like operating like that (subtleties of aforementioned lougeflow). So I took the desktop variant of cachy.
I got it to a pretty good spot. So I swapped it under the TV. First game: Wife christened it with red dead 2. Everything going well, playing great. I still haven't started a game. She offered to clean out the previous 'puter so I can sell it.
I didn't expect the rgb on the card to cast that much light out of the mesh case. When it was open and in bright light, the rgb did not look that strong. But I don't hate it. The potentially bisexual glow in the white entertainment center is kinda nice.
Cachyos is new to me so I'm watching my back. Seems great so far. It's supposedly got all kinds of optimizations I don't understand. It definitely has the latest updates for gaming related stuff. Helpful when you are on linux and have hardware that just came out. I advise against that in general, but it seems RDNA4 is working well already.
Using a gnome desktop with some extensions that turn it into a kind of classic desktop, but for kids. Like Duplo to Lego. Regular start button and task bar layout, but minimal and chunky. Perfect for operating with an air mouse.
Loving this one, so far. We'll see how it goes. I'll love it more when the old one is sold.
