I need help selecting a complementary console for my PS4

Wii U offers more contrast in types of exclusives. But from the few games the OP lists, it doesn't seem like they're much into Nintendo stuff so that maybe moot if they can't find enough games they want to play.

Personally, I'm just going with PS4 only this gen. I sold my Wii U as I just don't dig enough of Nintendo's stuff, and MS doesn't have enough exclusvies that don't have decent alternaties on PS4 to be worth it.

I'm also trying to cut down my gaming and focus on other stuff more anyway. I have a Vita and 3DS also currently, but will be getting rid of one or both of them after finishing up some games. May just get a Playstation TV so I can game on the PS4 on the second TV when the fiance is using the main set (only one that has cable hooked up) which is about the only time I touch my portables.

Wii U no contest

Out now and in future

Super Mario Kart 8
Zombie U
Mario world 3D
Resident Evil Revelations
Bayonetta 2 (wii u exclusive)
Nintendo land is fun with friends
Classic wii games with wiimote such as resident evil remake, Mario galaxy etc
Virtual console games (look for a full list on wiki)
Zelda
Mario Party

I was in the same boat as you OP but it is an easy decision PS4 + Wii U is the way to go
XBO have some nice exclusives but i can play their counter-parts on PS4 like Forza - GT, Gears - Uncharted, Halo - Destiny and so on, Wii U offer unique experiences not available on any other platform

Best combo is best!

I'll toss in a vote for Wii U and/or Vita based on your OP.

Personally, I recommend just buying them all if the exclusives attract you. Buy them in the order of your most wanted exclusives.

If your funds ever reach "I don't care (throws cash everywhere)" then build a high-end gaming PC too down the road. It's the place to be for a lot of cross-platforms. Especially during sales.

3DS. You get access to some of the best games nintendo has to offer. And you get the best third party support. I also think handheld gaming offers a completely new dynamic that is fresh and unlike console gaming.

As a PS4 owner, I feel a Wii U would better complement my collection. There's just too much overlap between PS and XB. The Wii U is sufficiently diversified, with Mario Kart, Zelda, Star Fox, Smash, Bayonetta, Wonderful 101 and many others coming up.

Honestly unless you're bananas about Halo, I'd say this is a no brainer. PS vs. X1 is arguably a harder choice than this is.

Wii U is a good call. PS4 vs. Xbox One libraries will be pretty redundant, and the exclusives in each case are mostly going to be in genres that the other system will also be strong in. Whereas the Wii U library is reliant almost entirely on exclusives.

I'm taking a similar approach to the last generation. I had a 360/Wii combo for about 5 years, and I was pretty much set. And by the five-year point, I added a PS3 to the mix because the price was reasonable and there were now a solid 10-15 exclusives that justified the purchase.

This time, I've got the PS4/Wii U combo going and I feel like I'm pretty well set for the next few years at least. At some point, the Xbox One likely will have built up enough value for me to add that into the mix.

If you have a PS4 and need a complementary console, get a Wii U.

:D

My suggestion is a Wii U + PlayStation TV :).

The former isn't that expensive right now (you can get a referb Basic for 200 or get the Skylanders Basic bundle for 250 + traded in the Skylanders stuff to get back at least....I think 30+ bucks) and it going to get the best games this fall (Smash Bros is going to rock man :D!).

The latter is due to how it ("Supposedly") it is going to be the perfect compain device to the PS4. It can play PS1 Classics, your PSP games, a few Vita games (though the compatibly list is very small sadly :(; I bet Sony are going to add ALOT of games to that list though to make it a better value) and if you have multiple TV's, you can hook up the PS TV some where in your home and remote play your PS4 content to the device (I'm sure it will be good; when they demoed Knack with it a while back, it seemed good :l). Granted, I would recommend a normal Vita but its high price (179-200$ + the expensive memory cards) make it a hard sell (unless you have a ton of PS+ games stacked on your PSN account, own a lot of PS1 Classics/PSP tittles).

trying to figure out if this is a joke post or not.
Its a joke though its true that the xb1 actually has a solid lineup IMO.

On a serious note. I have a PS4 and XB1 because I had the money and didn't want to miss any of those exclusives. I had a Wii but pretty much abandoned it. I have had no desire to get a Wii U. Lately I have seen a lot of positive posts about it. If I decided to pick one up what are the must haves?

Wii U.

I've had Ps4+ WiiU for a while now, is an amazing combo. I always have something good to play, and when my wife is using the TV I just play the WiiU with the gamepad.

Do it.

PS3 + Wii was by far the best combo last gen, and it looks like that will repeat this gen. Perhaps with Wii U actually leading the charge of great games this time.

PS4 and Wii U here and I'm set for this gen. Came from 360 main, PS3 distant second and Wii as an accessory console.

:D

I've got a Wii U and need a complementary console; due to Rare's silence, that's one hell of a difficult decision (imo better controller vs obviously better tech).

If you like Platinum Games, The Wonderful 101 is amazing. If you don't like their style of games, you may not like it though...

Nintendoland is GREAT for having a few drinks and playing with friends/family.

Mario Kart 8 is a must get.

Build or upgrade your PC, better tech and you can use the Xbox controller.

I'm rocking an ancient, slow, Phenom II X6 at 2.7 GHz paired with an R9 270. It blows both out of the water. You can spend more for something on another level completely, but my current set-up is still leaps and bounds ahead of the PS4 and Xbox One and the upgrade didn't cost nearly as much as a console. ($150 for the 270, $45 for a new power supply... You could go for a $110-120 260X for console parity (still more powerful than a console, but PC's tend to have more overhead, so it brings it down to parity.)

I feel the One and PS4 are pretty much the same now minus how powerful they are, so the Wii U seems like the perfect companion system that will bring diversity to the table if you have a xbone or PS4.

What makes you think that? There's no reason to believe the QOL product will have any influence on the Wii U. It's so far out that, if anything, it would impact the next nintendo console, not this one.

Because Nintendo has already been slow rolling out their games, and now they have to support a system that they know will be a poor return on their investment. Add to that the demand for home consoles has plummeted in Japan which makes pursuing that market even more risky. Nintendo themselves are talking about new QoL products that they perceive to be the future of the company and which are built on the hardware-software integration expertise the company has. Where do you think that expertise is coming from? Oh I don't know...maybe from their failing console.

On top of that Nintendo is also talking about the creation of a unified development platform that allows consoles to play handheld games. At the very best this means that the Wii U will be getting handheld ports to fill out its software library. At worst it means that Nintendo is planning to replace the Wii U as soon as possible with hardware that can support this initiative. Either way, the the current Wii U game as you know it is coming to an end, and Nintendo has already announced their exit strategy.

Wii U because smash is coming out soon. You don't want to be the only guy not playing smash when everyone is having such a great time.

Buy a Wii U.

It's absolute fun in every sense. NES Remix 1 and 2 are the most fun I've had in a long time - and I've played the associated NES games to death.

I own all 3 and I use the Wii U the most.

Keep in mind that if you're willing to wait, any Titanfall sequel is likely to be multiplatform (and in fact, if you have a decent PC, you can play the 1st game already). The other XBO games you mentioned might eventually get PC ports as well (like Dead Rising 3 already did).

To be honest the Xbox One and Ps4 have similar gaming experiences in terms of the types of games.

The Wii U would give you much more of a contrasting experience.

This has been my thought as ive purchased 3 controllers and 3 games this week for a WiiU i dont have. I love my Ps4 and need a One eventually but the one thing they lack that Nintendo has in great supply : Couch Co-Op.

Oh, and Smash Bros.

I dunno. At first thought it seems like it's obvious to go Wii U, but personally sunset overdrive, forza, and even halo collection interest me more than anything on the Wii U. Plus it's nice to see Microsoft add actual value to live gold.

I think it's just like getting any console, go with what interests you.

One of the most painfully overlooked features of the WiiU is that the gamepad is also a great tablet. This alone would be the deciding factor if I didn't own one already.

I have XB1/PS4 and am considering getting a Wii U too. I'm just concerned that the Wii U will become a Bayo-2/Smash/MK machine, just like my XB1 is a Titanfall machine.

I would honestly wait a bit as the price of both will only go down, and if Sunset Overdrive gets amazing reviews then get that - if not, get the Wii U for X reasons.

I can't see the wii u price dropping any time soon.
Buy a wii u. Definitely the best second console as it has the most genuinely unique content.

What makes you say that? Is there any indication first-party support is declining? Is Wii U selling significantly less now than it was last year at this time?

Another vote for Wii U. I have all 3 but I wouldn't buy XB1 if I could do it over again. Way too much overlap and not enough exclusives to make up for it yet.

WiiU. Mario Kart 8 is a blast, 3D World and DKC are givens. Pikmin 3 is actually pretty cool, even if you havent tried the series before. Then there is Shovel Knight (unless you have a PC). Legit good games.

Nintendo has been the go to compansion console since...well the 32bit generations i'd imagine.

especially if you haven't tried the series before.

If it weren't for its somewhat short length it'd be my favorite Wii U game. It's exploding with charm and nice fuzzy feelings

Pikmin 3
Super Mario 3D World
NintendoLand
ZombiU
Mario Kart 8
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Wink Waker HD
NSMB U if you can get it relatively cheap
And a lot of people love Wonderful 101

OP, you should just buy both.

You can find really good deals on used/refurbished hardware.

A game per console, and you'll get both spending less than you would imagine.

No compromise.

Could be... but as of right now and for the foreseeable future the Wii U exclusives line up takes a dump on Xbone's chest.

Wii U. It's got some amazing exclusives out now and coming soon, good indie/digital titles, and a nice catalog of retro games as well. With an XBox One, you're basically getting the same console you currently own with a few different exclusives.

My second console of this generation is going to be a Wii U, no questions asked. It's now got a decent line-up of exclusive games and more to come in the near future.

I feel the same way. I'll be getting a Wii-U as my second console. It will compliment my PS4.

Sorry, but the Wii-U gamepad can barely even be considered a real tablet. Stop dreaming.
