I can't tell if it's because of the day I've had or what, but my trip through the iTunes Music Video selection may have kindled an interest. what say you gaf?

also, what of this jem gal? she shows some talent in her song 'they', but i have a feeling the album is just overproduced crap.

I kind of like them because they remind me of mid-90's Coolio.

Where Is the Love -> Let's Get Retarded
Gangsta's Paradise -> 1,2,3,4 (Sumpin' New)

Heh, I loved 8th grade.

I like 'em for that girl that shakes her money maker in the videos, that is all I really need to like a group. The shaking of the money maker...

The girl is so damn fine. Her stomach looks incrediblem she's got nice tits, and when she moves well. I hate Lets Get Retarded though, it keeps bringing up memories of the NBA Playoffs. #%@%%@

yeah they sell iPods and iMacs!

Well yeah, before i would never have imagined them doing anything like that, but then someone told me they were doing a song with Justin Timberlake (where is the love) and i didn't beleive it....then they went on tour with christina aguilera for fucks sake. I never imagined they'd sell out, let alone go on tour with christina fucking aguilera

To be honest they were in the middle of nowhere. A few 'hits' and not much of a fanbase underground or mainstream. I would of sold out too, at least they bring something different to the Top 40.

I say listen to the music if you like it. I'm certain the majority of the people who post here wouldn't approve of a lot of the music I like listening to (Linkin Park, Frou Frou, Rage Against the Machine, etc), but who fucking cares. If you like listening to it, that's all that matters.

What program do you use to photoshop a picture?
Damn i use to bump BEP's when i was in middleschool. Songs like Empire, joints and jams and the way you make me feel where dope ass jams. Now I just can't stand them when they they're songs get aired.

"You be whacker than a n***a that be rhymin' in a Pringles commercial, put your career in reversal..."
-BEP, "What It Is," Behind the Front, 1998

That was funny when I heard those lyrics for the first time when they were underground, then over the years I see them becoming more mainstream, doing a Spite commercial and stuff like that and now Elephunk...

That parody infomercial they had about learning how to rap years ago was too funny though (edit: Discover Hip-Hop...where's the infomercial?)

Elephunk is not as good as their stuff back then, but it's a fun listen though...a 'guilty pleasure' on my iPod =P

I wouldn't call them overrated crap, but they get old pretty quick. I got sick of them after their second album, and adding a hottie to their retinue just isn't enough to get me to buy Elephunk.

Someone told me they were rap for white people. Lucky for me I'm white.

And yeah, I like em.

Most rap is rap for white people... as 80% (probably higher) of the purchasers of rap music are white...

I'm a fan of Elephunk, don't really remember their older stuff too much, but the Phunk is just a great driving record.

Plus Fergie is SUPER hot. Damn, she popped out of nowhere with those great stomach muscles;)

Ok, this may get people pissed off but the reason I don't like the Black Eyed Peas is because of the video for their popular single "Where is the Love". Now, I'm not racist in the least and I try to be very politically correct, but I find it semi offensive that the only caucasian in the whole video is a cop beating down random people from random minority groups or members of the BEP's, I can't remember which. I just thought that was so lame. WHERE IS THE LOVE FOR MALE CAUCASIANS?

I don't even watch the fucking NBA and I still can't hear the song without thinking of the playoffs. WTF!

Well in reality they were obviously more concerned with making money.... tons and tons of money, then making sure you didn't think they were a sellout. Come on. I freakin hate how people call every band that becomes popular a sellout. Yeah like their cds are selling out everywhere. That's how they are a sellout. And that is the exact reason these people got into that business. TO MAKE MONEY!!

Oh yeah. On topic. I also kinda like the Black EyeS Peas. Let's get retarded awesome. But my favorite is Hey Mama. But I've been a fan of the BEP for a long time.
Bringing in the chick sure seemed to help them though.

I always found them to be style over substance. Even when they were supposedly underground, they would get credit for their sound (organic soulful party jams) but heads- I included- always questioned their lyric writing abilities. They were being compared to Tribe and De La Soul at one point.

If it makes you feel any better, they weren't able to score a hit until they teamed up with a Caucasian dude. Even when Macy Gray was hot with the mainstream, she wasn't able to carry the Pea's single 'Request Line'.

I love the production on Elephunk. Tons and tons of inspiration for choreography come from that album. Hey Mama, Let's Get Retarded, Shut Up, Smells Like Funk, Sexy, Boogie That Be, Hands Up... my favorite would have to be "Smells Like Funk", though. My friend prefers their underground stuff, but I don't really see the problem with the album. The only thing I really hate is the "Lets Get It Started" abomination... the instrumentation and vocals sound like it's generated from inside a tin can... and why did they modify "Hey Mama" for a radio release?

First of all, when the hell was Fergi on Kids Inc? I did not know that. I knew there was JLH, those two chicks who went to Wild Orchid, but that's about it. When the hell did Fergie ever appear on the show, unless you're mistaking her for the blonde who was way too old for the show after a while. :lol

Yes, Fergi is lookin smoking. She has a bit of a man face, but I can overlook that for her other assets. That and she's got more talent than half the wannabes out there.

Lastly, I sorta liked BEP back in the day, but they were obscure. If selling-out means making marketable music that sounds good, then more power to 'em. Elephunk is pretty damn good IMO. Making a party album doesn't make you a sellout. Besides, I think Fergi might have been the missing ingredient for the band. I was really suprised when I first saw her with the band. I was like, "who the fuck is this white chick in the Black Eyed Peas?" But it makes sense now. They were would have been lost otherwise. Good for them, I'm just annoyed that she gets more attention than the other members, eventhough Will is really the one who makes the group work. PEACE.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Well, I don't like them at all. I saw them live when they performed at the Sony party in LA. I was all the way up front...and the only reason I didn't leave was because Fergie is fucking HOT!!!!!! Goddamn I would hit that until the apocalypse came and wiped me off the face of the earth.

On related note: What was one of their earlier videos? It was a pretty groovy video where they were like dancing on some corner, in front of some store I think...I recall roaches briefly walking over the picture? What are all of their videos?

That's the thing though, I don't call every band that becomes popular a sellout, I'm just calling BEP sellouts because they went against what they always seemed to stand for, that it's not about the money (i remember them rhyming about this on one of their earlier albums). Also it's not just the fact that they had a popular song or 2 that makes them sellouts, but the fact that they shamelessly went on tour with Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, i mean they must have known what they were doing to their image by doing that. Oh and for the record i still like their music, i just don't like them.
