I think the Callisto Protocol is the fastest I’ve ever changed my mind on a game

I was really hype for this game all summer. I pretty much thought i was going to be playing God of War and this at the end of the year. After todays presentation I was so deflated on it, that entire slide portion was so tonally off from what I thought the game was supposed to be. I thought i was watching a trailer for tomb raider or something, that just looked so goofy and went on for so long.

Its like the devs knocked it out of the park in the last showing with the death to end the trailer, so they figured they'd do it again? Why not make the monster deaths look cool instead of the players death? They could have shown the monsters or whatever actually get squeezed into the grinders, while still squirming and screaming, but it just explodes. It came off low budget to me, which is ironic because it described itself as a 'AAAA' game. It honestly looks like a dead space 2 mod to me. It will be a long day for this game if it gets delayed past Dead Space remake because wow…it'sthesamepicture.jpg

Calm down. You're overreacting way too much.

It was a 2 minutes section of a 10 hour game

The gameplay section that impressed you before is still there, isnt it?

Maybe its like watching the Dead Space meteor minigame and saying "the game is going to be shit, for sure"

Yea the grinder deaths were awful. Also the stealth kill looked like there were no wounds on the body when he stabbed the monster in the shoulder and head. No impact wounds when swinging that electrical saw/metal at the more resilient monster. What looks to be no impact wounds on body from the blaster/pistol.

For a game that does look like it's going to be pretty graphic in terms of deaths to your character, the deaths to the enemies are low budget as fuck.

I felt the same way about this trailer. I was hype and this trailer kind of deflated that hype. Still going to play it, hopefully this was just some early footage or something I don't know.

I think it looks fine. I'm probably going to get it, if it gets at least decent scores. It's not as if there is much else to look forward to. Aside from Modern Warfare 2, the rest of 2022 looks pretty barren to me.

It did look a little underwhelming. And its a little worrying that they picked these 2 gameplay sections to show off the game, as if we were supposed to be impressed by them, and they were showing the game in its strongest light.
Still like i said in another thread, its a Dead Space style game from the Dead Space devs, i'm already sold on the game.

They wrote captured on next gen hardware… what does that even mean? PS5 and XBOX Series X are current Generation or do they mean they put a PC together with the latest technology, although even then it's not really next gen…

Yep games are going backwards. This was a released gameplay trailer for marketing.. A chance to show off a very small snippet of the games best strengths and abilities.

For people to say oh, it's a small slice of a long campaign, why would they choose to show something so bland and boring?

Enemy animations were janky, gore/blood looked really bad and unrealistic, gameplay looked repetitive and unexciting. The graphics also oddly looked good and bad at the same time. This was my most hyped game of the year and I don't want to believe what I saw.

Sorry, but the bar needs to be higher. I hope I'm wrong though.

Did they seriously say this is AAAA?

Why did they make the gameplay like "Control", this seems underwhelming after the first trailer i saw. Not impressed by the graphics.

The bro is speakin facts

The grinder bit was hilarious. Why even bother shooting at the dudes?
Why is the grinder even there in the first place? Its just dumbo game design.

The water slide reminded me exactly of a bit from Binary Domain. Its like 1 to 1 identical.

You dont have random grinders in work?

It's the staple of every good company.

Yeah, I can't think of any reason why the exposed grinders would even be there in an industrial setting.

I do agree with remember_spinal remember_spinal that it wasn't an impressive demo. The "let's find creative ways to kill the hero in grisly ways" is getting a bit stale at the moment. Better if they work at making the monster deaths look cooler

Dunno about this OP.

I saw a ton of gameplay mechanics. Hopefully it plays well and feels good to shoot, evade etc.

I just want it to be lengthy, meaty experience and it will be great.

Damn, really? I haven't watched the new footage yet, and now I'm afraid to. I was pretty sold on the game from my last impression of it.

Have to agree it looked off to me as well.

Disappointed with what I saw and hopefully when actually released it's more polished as the gameplay looked indie like.

To me it never looked that incredibly good as people were saying so no surprise on my part.

It always looked like ds creator was ripping himself and except for the protagonist face, gore/graphic\animations\mob design and combat never looked incredible...

People seemed to only really like the original trailer because it had a big gore scene. Seems they are using a sort Tomb Raider template and the gore only kicks in when the player character gets it.

It was a bad showing really, didn't look like natural gameplay at all. Like they were trying to show off gore features that weren't really there. Not too worried about the slide sequence, pretty sure Dead Space had a similar thing with a tentacle, no?

Still keen to get my hands on it but that demo didn't help them.

I kinda tend to agree. The reveal teaser, which was all CGI though as far as I recall, had a more sinister and interesting feeling to it. This gameplay was flat, it didn't show a particularly exciting fight, and the monsters were not very aggressive nor really strong. That gravity gun was super OP too, the monsters did not stand a chance.

The water slide looked and played boring. Probably the weakest part of the gameplay segment. I mean, it's good that there's some interaction there and it's not just a cutscene, but other games have done this section too, maybe better. It is nothing new, and goes on for too long -- apparently with the chance to be abruptly killed after going through what felt like minutes of it. Fun.

Gameplay didn't look good. Just generic at best, especially the part with the cliché of dodging obstacles on a water stream.

I was hyped for this game from the very first reveal, but having watched the Gamescom presentation, it left me unimpressed. I agree that the water slide section seemed out of place and went on way too long. I also felt the stealth section felt way off too. It was like I was watching dumb AI enemies from the 90s just stand there waiting to be attacked. I will wait till after the game releases to see how this turns out, but so far nothing is screaming must have game for me.

Perhaps they should rather present their Time Machine they used, to get either a PS6 development kit or some not yet released PC parts.
Most of the people are still playing on PS4 or similar. I'd argue that's the current gen for most of the people.
No need to be pedantic about semantics when you know exactly what they are talking about

The Telekinesis power seems very OP and I miss the way the plasma cutter had to be strategically aligned to dismember but overall it looks absolutely great. I'm very excited for this. Graphics looks a bit uneven(most stuff looks photorealistic but some textures looks all stretched and smudged), but it's a WIP and it's not to an extent that it would bother me while playing.

Just because the monster's deaths looked underwhelming?

Good lord, some people are hard to please these days...

I'm super hyped for this game. Can't wait!

Just a small comparison to kill some time (slow day at work)

The supposedly AAAA small story driven game

Fa3zkGoXoAEJwIA

Fa3zknTXgAAnX-3

Days gone, the open world from the worst\smaller sony team that has 500 of these models on screen at the same time (not 3-4 at best)

I'm gonna say it again, leaving aside the protagonist face, this one looks current gen as a whole fuck.

Can't wait to see actual nextgen monster design\details when stuff like tlou3 or hellblade 2 are gonna be released.

This is the game from last night that left you underwhelmed? Jesus, I don't want to know what you thought of the others. This was one of the few games that looked like something I'd have a good time playing.

It bothered me a bit how everything but the telekinesis seemed so useless against those apparently weak enemies.
