Sorry for the little necrobump but I just got banned from resetera for 2 weeks after responding to an article about tlou2. The article in question said that Nora's death was worse than a dog's. Just for saying that I didn't agree and giving some examples I was banned.
But all the posts that thank everyone for "whitesplaining" and slamming divergent thinking go on with no problems. What I wrote wasn't even remotely bannable but that doesn't matter. That site has become unbearable and I'm saying this as a left leaning individual. Over the last year its gotten noticeably worse.

I was banned during the pandemic for saying that when Chris Pratt stood naked irl behind a door it wasn't sexual assualt. Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones opened the door and were surprised and laughed and they used the real footage on that episode of parks and rec.
That's literally all I said... I was kinda upset when that happened but now I just don't care. That site is exhausting

Yeah I know right. I've been anticipating a ban for awhile now though. Seeing the list of admin and moderaters that have left that site since its inception is eye opening. There's no room for nuance there.
Both here and there have changed a bunch in the last few years. Pretty interesting

I got temp banned because I pointed out that a domestic abuse victim started the fight by throwing an object and hitting their spouse in the head. I should put domestic abuse in quotes, because all the action happens off camera and all we can hear is crying. Police didn't buy era's bullshit and arrested both. Officers involved in the arrest were also banned from era for victim blaming.

I moderate some car forum, and there are these newer mods that I feel are using politics to ban old long standing members.
So be careful, the longer you are somewhere the more comfortable you get and feel like you're de_shit. But you will get sniped and your character assassinated.
In the secret area 51 part of the forum, I even sort of pleaded to make the lifetime ban to a few months or a ban from the politic forum. Nope
all those years of being [USER_NAME], gonzo.
Gotta come back as some lurker ghost and then get those new IPs banned. RIP

this place is more open and you can post your opinion without having the fear that you're gonna get banned. obviously the mods here will step down on you if you go too far but it's way more relaxed and friendly.

I never registered there because of their ridiculous requirements for user emails but I did hear some silly stories about people getting banned literally over something like this. This isn't even hyperbole.
I think GAF is one of the safest forums out there, posting something original on ERA (meaning not 100% compliant with their way of thinking) is like living on the edge.

IIRC you have to have an email registered under a non-free email provide. So email addresses on Google or Yahoo, for example, are automatically rejected presumably to avoid spam, circumventers, trolls, etc. But honestly, I found it a bit ridiculous because it cuts off access for potential normal users who just don't have their private domains or whatever.
I mean, in theory, I could register there now because my ISP recently provided me with a private email on their server but honestly, after what I've heard about that place, I don't think I'm in too much of a hurry.

I’m a constant reset era poster but got banned for 2 weeks because a mod took what I posted in the wrong way.
We were always led to believe this forum was a bunch of trump supporters. I don’t care to post politics on reset since it’s mostly run by the mob who leans way too much on the far left. (I hate to use the term since I too am a Democrat who leans to center left).

The most recent U.S Presidential election brought out a lot of hostility. A bunch of people on the left, apparently from ResetEra, came by to gloat because of their perception of GAF being right wing. But you also had people on the right who took Trump's loss badly. There were a bunch of bans for people defending or justifying the January 6th Capitol riots for example. If you look at the ban page around April 22, which was when Politics was nuked, there's a load of bans there for "Endorsing white supremacy"..So, it was nuked to stop a hostile takeover of NeoGaf politcal discourse by woke 'fugee's from ResetEra?

That used to be how GAF was too. I can't remember when they changed it.

Yeah, it also took forever to even get my account confirmed before I could start posting. I managed to forget I even made one and only just noticed a notification on email a few days ago, lol.
No biggie, though. It's not like I lost any sleep over it and I'm cool with finally being able to post. This seems like a nice place.

I don’t think there were blatant “endorsing white supremacy” posts. My guess is that that was an excuse to close the Politics board, probably to avoid being on the wrong side of the left that rules the west.

The mods evidently thought there were. Along with the seven white supremacy ban reasons listed on that page there's also one referencing "white pride"
I've seen a few people solely attribute Politics getting nuked to Resetera people showing up. But there were plenty of bans being handed out to GAF regulars around that time too. I believe it was the least used of the four sections but most of the bans were coming from it. I don't think there was any grand plan at play motivating Politics being shut down. I think it just became an embarrassing headache for the admins and mods and it was simpler to just draw a line under it.
