I've seen a few people solely attribute Politics getting nuked to Resetera people showing up. But there were plenty of bans being handed out to GAF regulars around that time too. I believe it was the least used of the four sections but most of the bans were coming from it. I don't think there was any grand plan at play motivating Politics being shut down. I think it just became an embarrassing headache for the admins and mods and it was simpler to just draw a line under it.

7 all for the same reason is quite a lot for a single day. It also happened on the day Politics was shut down. Pretty easy to point to those as the tipping point. Also those were hardly the only bans for that kind of thing around that time. If you go back further you’ll see more for similar reasons. On the page after that one I linked to someone got banned for linking to a white supremacist publication.

I'll sometimes take a look at the ban page and am always confused to see so many bans of posters I've never come across, ever. But I'm guessing over 90% of those bannings take place in those console warriors hot springs that I never care to visit. Still, I'm always like who are these people lol

Can’t you raise that with the site owner and get them removed? It’s not doing the site any favours removing long standing members.

The best I could do,

its like local police and state police, different jurisdiction.
It played out like.. "I [did it], if you need justification [come at me bro]"

Sure i can take it to the top, but what's the point of sticking my neck out if another new moderator agrees that the long standing member is a turd.
rules are rules. bureaucratic sure.
