I wasn't previously aware of the very, very racist parts of reddit.

Let's Discuss the Doctor Who Christmas trailer - 120 upvotes
Look what my girlfriend made me! (a Dr. Who tie) - 3920 upvotes
Look who I ran into! (selfie taken with former companion during Davies run Who) - 2048 upvotes

I have a theory about the last episode - 92 upvotes
My girlfriend made me Dr. Who cupcakes! - 3200 upvotes

This shit annoys me. I want to go to the final fantasy IV sub, but it is all shitty art & comics, screenshots of their virtual cat waifus, and pictures of people's fingernails painted like moogles. Anything worth a shit gets down voted in righteous anger.

People say the smaller subs are better, but I feel like the smaller subs are usually starving for content until it meets a certain threshold of subscribers where it then turns into the rest of reddit.

Also, any mundane thing suddenly becomes awesome if it is written on a piece of paper, chalk board, or dry erase board. "My roomate's way of telling me to do dishes" - *click* - image of some stupid note the op probably wrote.

Reddit is not place for discussion. the upvote downvote system is abused and people just use it to get comments out of the way to make room for the general consensus stuff or people just "don't like it".

Classic case of "Reddit is what you make it." That subreddit sucks? Then go to one that doesn't like r/Gallifrey.

Name one positive thing about reddit.

You can pry r/battlepaintings from my cold dead hands.

Yeah, the Doctor Who subreddit is the fucking worst. The day Death in Heaven aired, people were more excited about a baby wearing a tardis onesie or some shit. But /r/gallifrey is good for Doctor Who discussion so I can't hold that against Reddit.

Name one positive thing about reddit.

/r/photoshopbattles usually gets a laugh out of me, and /r/askreddit can't be that bad considering I've seen their questions repeated in Gaf OT a handful of times.

Reddit is 4chan pretending to be respectable.

Never forget that.

This is spot-on. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with sites that allow complete free speech, the problem is when said sites start fostering shit communities but still try and act like a paragon of respectability. 4Chan is a shithole but it knows that it's a shithole, Reddit tries and maintains an undeserved aura of respectability.

I also have a plethora of issues with Reddit aside from the major ones (terrible community of racist/sexist libertarian white guys). Stolen content, shitty humor, and overall just garbage communities. Like, even if r/gaming didn't have occasionally bigoted shit, it would still be a terrible community of people posting unfunny image macros, circlejerking Valve, and there being very little actual discussion beyond "DAE feel this way about *insert mainstream game here*?". All of the other big subreddits have similar issues. There are some better smaller subreddits with good discussion and more tightly moderated communities, but I still hate Reddit's layout and a lot of the userbase and that's not going to change that. Upvote/downvote inherently nutters discussion (especially on a site that's so much about free speech), because it ends up giving certain people louder voices than others. Upvote/downvote does work for asking questions, which is the one thing that I think Reddit is good for, because that's where it originated from (on sites like Yahoo answers and stackoverflow).

There's a reddit called /r/cutefemalecorpses or something like that.

Someone go there and find out if it still exists.

Holy shit I just checked that reddit out. It still exists and I seriously don't know how that can still be online.
It's part CP but it's not being removed because everyone is already dead? I don't understand and will leave the internet for today...
