i would like the xbox classic emulation on par of the other 6th generation consoles

still so distant imo, there are a good bunch of great titles that stutters a lot on Xemu, even with a lot better PC config than one that play flawlessly PS2, Gamecube and Dreamcast titles

a lot of great classics i would like to replay like i'm doing with PCSX2 or Dolphin or Flycast

racing games seems to suffer the most, a shame considering Forza Motorsport and Project Gotham Racing 2 were two exclusives

I agree.

I would love to be able to play the OG Forza Motorsport and Project Gotham Racing 1/2 but they all appear to have issues.

OG Xbox consoles are getting expensive and it seems like 8/10 of them have bad disc drives

I never tried Xemu, i still own the console though.

If there was an equivalent to PCSX2 maybe i would try it with Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gunvalkyrie or maybe Otogi 1/2.
I don't remember that much games i would be interested in replaying to be honest.

If you can get one hacked and run off a hard drive it's your best bet.

Anyone know why original Xbox emulation is behind?

The GameCube was my main console and I bought many of the 3rd party games on there. The exclusives that I bought on Xbox are available on the Series X and plays really well.

I just want this on XBOX BC offerings.. :messenger_loudly_crying:

Less focus by hobby developers. The PS2 and Gamecube are much more foundly remembered even though the OG Xbox did have an awesome library in its own right.

I'd settle for more Xbox OG emulation on Series consoles as well. Surprisingly, and sadly, they lowered the OG Xbox emulation compatible games after X360.

I remember being able to play the OG Xbox version of Fatal Frame 2 on my modded X360, sadly not possible anymore at the moment.

Racing games are basically dead and gone officially unless you bought them when new.
Sadly, it's not worth relicensing the brands for an old racing game, and it's typically not worth going back in and ripping those logos out.

Apparently Nintendo had to remove the Kawasaki logos out of Wave Race when they released it on Switch. The typical sim racing game would be too big a job though.

Exclusives is one thing, a lot of 3rd party games looked and ran the best on it.

My dream is to finally have an emu handheld able to handle xbox emulation.

Licensing is a ####.
It is sad that it's that gen that is getting shafted the most - somehow PS1 era has decent enough commercial coverage, and while not ideal - PS3 is in the cloud at least, and 360 has a good number of titles.
But between PS2, XB1 and GC we have what... 100 titles across all 3 combined on modern machines?

And homebrew is far from a solution either - PCSX2 between godawful input lag, dreadful emulation accuracy, and shoddy compatibility is really not a great showcase for much after more than 20 years of development. XBox is even worse - GC is the only one that's actually decent (though still far from perfect).

When did you last use PCSX2? Version 2.0 that came out almost a year ago made it much, much better than it was in the past.

I'm hoping that when the official Xbox emulation comes to PC, people will find a way of hacking it to run anything. Hopefully just a case of dropping in a different ISO.

The 360 used an actual emulator for the Xbox titles, of which it's performance varied widely. I can't see why they couldn't do the same for the Series consoles and have the games run directly from disc .

It's been about a year ago - but since you mentioned it I gave it a shot this week.

I see a setting for latency now (which by default is set to 2 frames, so way worse than actual ps2 - but presumably modern hw can keep up with performance well enough to be useable at lower settings, but haven't tested it yet).
Also finally having a useable controller setup (this used to be really broken) and support for supersampling etc.

Anyway - to the test:
Of the 6 games I tried (5 that have historically not been great) 2 are now - about 80%? accurate in hardware mode - which is an improvement from before(especially seeing volume shadows work in 2 - hats off to the devs to finally get this right), but you know - there's still jank. Third one is still quite bad - some of the graphical features are fixed, but there's new ones, including broken force feedback control etc.
Fourth one used to perform like crap but it rendered correct - now rendering is completely broken.
Fifth also never rendered correct before, now at least the opening scenes look fine, and it performs decently.
Sixth has video playback issues and some effects that I think used to render fine are now wrong.

I didn't have the time to search for hacks yet (although from experience - I think all but maybe the 4th game won't get any better - that one I could see maybe having some FP setting that glitches out).

Also VSync refused to work on any of the games (not sure if it's something in the emulator build or drivers or whatever) - this is a new issue, but it's likely not emulation related since it's just broken atm.

TLDR - yes I see progress (definitely UX has been massively improved as well as handling of certain things) but emulation itself is still glitchy, with compatibility issues.
But I guess the progress here at least gives hope - 2010-2020 was basically stuck with no meaningful change, so this is good to see.

Yes, I would love any emulation to be added for the next gen hardware. Having the option to play more classic games is always a good thing.

Isn't the original Xbox crazy complex for some reason? Not sure what
It used a Celeron version of a Pentium 3 I think 733Mhz, and a custom Nvidia GPU that was basically a GeForce 3, but the additional shader support of the GeForce 4. The chipset was nForce and included a variation of Nvidia Soundstorm audio which was competitive with dedicated sound cards at the time.

But while there was some custom silicon so you could just build a PC with the exact same parts. It was a regular x86 PC as it's core running a stripped down version of the Windows 2000 kernel.

It was a very powerful console at the time of its release, but it ran with understood hardware. PCem can do up to a Pentium 2 and Voodoo 2 and requires a really powerful PC to emulate that. So doing full hardware emulation is challenging. But it's a Pentium 3 running DirectX 8.1, a compatiblity layer can convert the calls to make them work on modern systems with much less overhead.

Yeah, it's always surprising to me how poor the state of Xbox emulation is. I think a lot of its library being shared with PC kind of removed a lot of motivation for getting emulation up and running, but there are still so many amazing games on it I would like to replay with modern enhancements that I can get via emulation. I hope someone works on it some time soon.
