The big cats are called Main Coons, I think that's the type. The cat appears MUCH larger in that picture because of its fur.

Granted I love cats, but a cat that big is just scary, because I'm not used to seeing a cat soooooooo huge.

You are certainly a know-yer-cats man! That is indeed a Maine Coon. And yeah, the hair does make it look bigger... but look again. Look at the distance between the front and back paws. No doubt about it, that's a huge freaking cat.

My guess is that a really gentle lynx got his freak on with a really loose Maine Coon.

It looks fake, but it could've been real. I've seen a few cats who are really big, without being fat that is...as big as normal-sized dogs. I recall that male cats who are sterilized have a tendency to grow big for some reason.
