Lol, I really don't. Don't know why, every time I have it I'm disgusted. Hamburgers, meatballs are just fine though. I've heard it my whole life.
I dare say you've never had good Steak then. You've gotta know what you're doing. Decent Steak needs prep, and a good basting is the cherry on top in that regard.
Personally I cook my Steaks using a Sous Vide water bath initially with some seasoning added, then lightly brown them using vegetable oil, pat them dry before doing a butter baste with crushed Garlic and fresh Parsley. Let the meat rest for a few minutes before finally serving.
