If you could revive/reboot/reimagine/remake one game or franchise, which would it be?

Revive - So much to choose from but I'm going to go with Freelancer. I'm dying for a decent, arcadey space game and Freelancer was one of the best. Microsoft owns the series and I hope they look at the response to Star Citizen and decide to bring this back.

Reboot - God Of War. Still one of my favorite games and I thought Ascencion was one of the strongest games in the series. The greek setting and Kratos as getting a little tired and I'd like to see a new protagonist and a new mythology (Norse, Celtic, Egyptian, Aztec ... lots of cool stuff to choose from) with all the same elements (boss fights, visuals, combat) that makes God Of War what it is.

Reimagine - Jedi Knight. The originals were some of the best FPS games ever. Jedi Academy was a solid third person action game. I'd love to see the series re imagined as a more open world "Jedi Sim" sort of game. I know KOTOR is a thing but I find the post movie Jedi Knight universe a lot more interesting. Hopefully this is exactly what Visceral is working on.

Remake - Descent 1 & 2. The games were fantastic for their time with incredible boss battles and great 360 degree three dimensional movement. The thought of a remake with proper next gen graphics is irresistible.

It doesn't have to be a genre switch, just doing something different from its established norms. Take something like Kingdom Hearts. Reimagining Kingdom Hearts could be something so simple as changing the companies involved from Disney and Square Enix, but keeping all the same play mechanics.

Ah, well in that case, a game like Mass Effect where you'd play as Saren. It would be fun to be the bad guy, plotting for the end of the world as we know it.

Or any FPS title, like Killzone, with all emphasis and resources put into creating a memorable SP campaign. Multiplayer portion be damned. Hell, I'd take another Resistance with UT2003/4-like arena combat.

Revive: Alpha Protocol, Warcraft, Jedi Knight
Reboot: Mass Effect. Keep the universe and character interactions. Remove any mention of cerberus, ilusive man and actually plan a trilogy story with a sensible ending.
Reimagine: The old republic. Discard most of it and make a proper single player KOTOR sequel.
Remake: Simcity 3000. nuff said

Reimagine - Sonic

I have the whole JK series but I've barely played any of them. FPS is a big DO NOT WANT for me. Playing them in third person would be pretty aces.

Revive - Perfect Dark, time for a new one.
Reboot - Banjo Kazooie make a new 3D platformer not a sequel to Nuts and Bolts.
Reimagine - Crackdown as a an MMO.
Remake - Original Gears of War with new shiny graphics framerate and netcode.

They tried...

i would revive the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series

I would also remake Metroid: Other M to make it not such a terrible piece of crap, and to prove a story-focused Metroid game can be done, and done well.

Revive- One (video game)
One of my favorite video games on the PSX. Love to see a new entry with all the frantic, flashy and chaotic combat preserved. Add completely destructible environments with more varied stages in terms of design layout for platforming and the like with some secret levels/weapons thrown in. Something among the budget of the recently released Strider would be fine.

Reboot/Re-imagine- Tenchu: Stealth Assassins
While I wouldn't complain about the series traditional mechanics, I'd love to see them reboot the franchise and shift the genre towards squad based tactical gameplay.

Remake- Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring
Since it was one of the first arena fighting games. I'd love to see it remade given the advances in the genre since then thanks to titles such as Power Stone and Anarchy Reigns. Take those elements and add Dissidia style progression to the gameplay. Also they could redo the Forsaken Dungeon, with Diablo-esque style level design and more diverse sets of floors. Also the option to create your own character with unique classes or jobs.

Same! I still remember the marketing campaign for it too lol. "One man. One solution, One state of mind!" That just took me back, thank you sir.

Revive

Jet Set Radio (with a play style middle ground between original and Future)
Panzer Dragoon
Space Channel 5 (but add some new elements to it beyond the stylized Simon gameplay)
Virtual On
Wars series
Ogre Battle (Tactics and original)
Wave Race
Eternal Darkness
Shinobi (in the PS2 style)
F-Zero
Star Fox (but expand it past being just a rail shooter SOMEHOW)
Darkstalkers (no more talk, just DO IT)

Reboot
Battle Clash (I liked the mech designs and it was a lot of fun)

P.N.03. There was a good game in there, it just looked repetitive, a bit jank and not fleshed out enough. Some expansion on the idea would be nice

Reimagine

Mach Rider. Lots of options for a futuristic motorcyclist. Fight aliens on bike and some on-foot stuff, or change it up and add a somewhat human element to the enemy... I've seen it thrown around to make it a futuristic GTA, but NO. PLEASE NO.

Remake

Rival Schools/Project Justice

Revive Black and White: Love God games, sadly all recently released God games has been a bit poop.

Reboot: Silent Hill. Konami, STOP. Stop and take a hard long look the pure unadulterated shit you have released the last many years. Now try and gather some of the key people that worked with Team Silent through the years and make a studio around them.

Reimagine: Republic: The Revolution. So much potential, but in the end a disappointing game without that great gameplay mechanics. The main idea is still great, so if you changed the gameplay up, I would be sold.

Remake: Theme hospital. Lets face it, the game is perfect, just needs a graphical update.

Revive:
Crash Bandicoot. I miss that little guy and if we don't get a reboot announcement for PS4 this summer I'm going to lose hope. I would pick it up day one.

Reboot:
The Jak and Daxter series. I played the hell out of these games and the latest in the series, The Lost Frontier, was lackluster at best.

Reimagine:
RAGE by id Software. This game had me so excited and was by far the biggest disappointment in gaming history for me. Had the game been written better, or even followed the novel that released a month or so ahead of the game, it would've earned the cancelled sequel. I still play this game, and I'm probably the only one.

Remake:
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey Of The Cursed King. This was my first ever actual JRPG and I fell in love with it back on the PS2. I'd love to see a remake in HD at 60FPS. Don't change a thing otherwise.

Revive: Jak & Daxter
  • Because the world needs another high profile 3D action platformer.
Reboot: Bully
  • I'd love to see it take a Donnie Darko turn set in the similar late 80's setting. Throw in some crazy Psychonauts schizoid stuff.
Reimagine: God of War
  • (even if it exists in the current canon) They must go GoW/SotC/Zelda hybrid. Egyption or better yet Mayan mythology.
Remake: Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Caveat is it must be capable of using GC controllers.

Side note: Have you played DarkSiders?

Mayan mythology would be disturbing as fuck.

Naw, fuck no. That's some nightmare inducing shit.

If I'd get to choose, the next GoW was themed around the Sumerian mythology. That's straight Lovecraft material.

I would reboot Devil May Cry. Once a haven for hardcore gamers and the standard which all action games were held. Now look at what they've done to my baby... );

I would revive Maximo. Army of Zin was the shit. Criminal that this series never took off. Criminal.

I would reimagine Pokemon. Or rather just the standard Pokemon formula the main games are doing right now. It's time this series went fully 3D open world already and had an actual story to tell with some actual effort put into it.

I would remake Dragon Quest 8. Give that bad boy a current gen version of what Level5 was using in Ni No Kuni. Make the world even bigger. The story more in depth. Expand the bestiary further. Add new game + and a higher difficulty with it.

Just thinking about the possibilities of all this... my god... a man can dream.

Revive: Clash at Demonhead. Just for kicks, I'd love to see a new one, modern graphics, similar jokey humor, a retro-art style(80s sci-fi fantasy anime).

Reboot: Monster Party. Loved that game as a kid, and would love to see a new version on it. Lots of monsters, humor, bizarre and trippy worlds.

Reimagine: Legend of Zelda, more focused on ARPG style. Link will gain experience and levels, unlock movies and be able to chain them together in battle. He'll be nimble as hell, but will also have to think at times whether or not to battle some enemies or sneak past others. And I know this might be sacrilege, but I'm thinking Kingdom Hearts meets Dark Souls. Art direction wise, I've said it in the other thread, I'm not a general fan of the OoT and on style seen in the LoZ games(especially with strange goofy looking NPCs, which still exist in games like Twilight Princess). Something retaining a stylish look, but also more fantasy medieval, yet without drowning into the more dark look of modern fantasy. Medieval world without an over emphasis on natural earthy colors. Something that's somewhat grounded, but also fantastically mystical. Basically, a more progressive, grown up take on the old LoZ look(LoZ1- ALttP and ALBTW). No strange looking things with big noses and bulging eyes, and chins like gourds and cone heads. And no Tingle!

Remake: My temptation to say FFVI in HD is strong, but I'll have to say something from Culture Brain. Used to love their games back in the day. And I think out of Super Chinese(Ninja Brothers/Boy), Flying Warriors and Magic of Scheherazade, I'd pick Super Chinese 2(Little Ninja Brothers in the West). The first Super Chinese was Kung-Fu Heroes(Chinese Heroes in the arcade), an stage by stage arena BEU where you had to fight floor to floor waves of enemies until the door on each floor opens, allowing you to ascend the tower. Super Chinese 2 basically went a new direction. It's a JRPG in the classic sense, but the majority of your battles are fought like the first game, in arenas. You walk on the world map and then, random encounter, and you have to fight a group of enemies. At the beginning, it tells you that you must defeat _ number of enemies to win. You do that(avoid environmental traps and break rocks for power-ups) and you gain EXP and levels. Main bosses, however, are fought in classic turn-based fashion. Now, I'd LOVE to see this game in full 3D, maybe cel-shaded to make it look like a giant, big anime-esque world. Would love to have a group of great anime VAs voicing the characters and keep the heavily comedic tone of the quest intact. Lots of jokes, lots of puns, lots of pop cultural references. Bring the battles into 3D(3D arena, lots of cool fighting moves added) and speed up the turn-based battles for bosses. Besides, I dream of hearing the music in high quality, maybe even an orchestral version of the boss battle theme.

Revive = Project Gotham Racing. PGR has (for me) the best sim-arcade handling blend combined with sublime visuals and sound. Lucid Games to develop.

Reboot = RalliSport Challenge - DICE in charge of development.

Reimagine = 4A Games Metro series (2033 and Last Light) as open world sequels to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series. Metro 2033 story can be the prologue to a much larger game..

Remake = Project Gotham Racing 2 plus the DLC locations for the Xbox One and PC. Lucid Games to develop both and support with DLC consisting of the real world tracks, city locations and cars from other PGR games. Add weather effects from PGR 4 too.

Reboot Resident Evil, starting post REmake. Reimagine 2, 3, etc, incorporating the best elements of these titles and working on their weakpoints (more challenging survival and puzzle gameplay), etc. Simultaneously reboot the Outbreak series, with each title adding new scenarios to the base Outbreak game. Purchasing mainline RE titles would also unlock Outbreak areas, which would make use of mainline assets (R.P.D., etc).

Reboot Extreme G Racing for PS4, X1 and PC. it's a great series that has a simple fast paced racing combat system that's very pick up and play. the Extreme G Racing series could use a new entry in HD with next generation physics, A.I., and graphics. seeing this sci-fi racing world re-imagined for a new generation of consoles would be great.

As what?

As what?

As What?

Multiplayer. One plays Operator, another one Trinity.
Fly around as Neo.
Play as Oracles defender(forgot the name).
Control one of these battledroids.
Be the archtitect.
Play a human who just woke up.
Play as one of the earlier saviors, rebooting the Matrix.

I would revive Tomb Raider. It single-handedly kept the puzzle platformer genre alive and we need games like it.

I would reboot Mass Effect. I want to go back to a time before giant terminators, before my ship started talking and turned into a sex doll, before shitty monsters with glowing nipples, before a breathing mask and a cleavage was considered proper gear for spacewalks, before the Protheans became goofy Jamaican bug men. I'd like the Reapers to remain a threat to the entire universe for the duration of the franchise, not something an omnisexual zombie could just turn off. Mass Effect could be a cool thing, too bad it stopped.

I would reimagine Halo, because the series is now FUBAR thanks to 343 Industries, but even before that the linear mission structure wasn't doing it any favors. Halo (not the pretty cool guy, the ring) should be the main star of the franchise. It should be an open, fully explorable environment, a massive sandbox with endless possibilities for unpredictable encounters with great AI. I want to set course for the Silent Cartographer island and not know what to expect this time around. What if an airdrop of double scarabs (I repeat, two scarab) could again be an "OH SHIT" moment, not just part of the routine? Forget Halo delivered in short campaign mission chunks, I want to move there.

I would remake Bushido Blade, because it's been far too long since a bunch of fragile fools pretending to be samurai mutilated each other in a parking lot.

Very interesting idea for a thread...

Revive - Suikoden. Pick up the story from after the events of 3 (which I understand is the most recent game in the series timeline; I haven't played past 3 yet...).

Reboot - Phantasy Star. While PS4 effectively ended the saga of the Algol series, reboot the series as a brand new, turn-based offline RPG affair with a similar aesthetic and 'feel'. Bring Dark Force back and lots of references to the original series, but make it a new saga in a new galaxy.

Re Imagine - Smash Bros as an RPG. We could have all the Nintendo mascots in one huge RPG where you jump between worlds based on their franchise. Also, Wipeout as an open-world racer might be cool; I love the art direction of the Wipeout series and this would give me a way to explore the world more thoroughly.

Remake - Panzer Dragoon Saga. The gameplay is transcendent, and the music and storyline are superb too. The game is held back by the Saturn's visual power, and the fact that it's pretty hard to procure a copy without forking over a lot of money.

Aerobiz: Revive or remake
Baseball Stars: Revive or remake
Sim Ant: Revive or remake
Sim Tower: Revive or remake

Revive: Rallisport Challenge. I don't know if it's necessary for Xbox with Forza, but man am I nostalgic for RSC2.

Reboot: A new Simpsons Hit and Run with a full Springfield.

Reimagine: James Bond 007 Nightfire. I think its style of multiplayer could really be awesome today.

Remake: Mother. Since Itoi doesn't want to write/direct any more, maybe they can use the stuff he's already written and make a huge game starting with Ninten and ending with Lucas with Wind Waker style art.

The more I think about it, the more I want to revive Syphon Filter so bad. I've had a really good idea for like the last year about the final Syphon Filter game. A true finale. I got most of the story nailed down anyway. Got a bunch of different levels and missions all radically different from one another so they never feel samey. Some all out action, some hardcore stealth, but everything feels unique so you never feel bored, and I think the story would be pretty compelling.

Remake: Duke Nukem Forever. I would make it a good game with old school style levels, weapons, and health kits. The key would be actually making the game good.

So Project X Zone? I mean, Nintendo *does* own Monolith...

Revive = Mega Man Legends 3, but only if Inafune gets it.

Reboot = Sonic the Hedgehog or Star Fox. Go back to what worked in the original games.

Reimagine = Panzer Dragoon. A huge open world game where you fly around on the dragon would be great. Visit towns, raid enemy bases, whatever, I just want to return to that world.

Remake = Final Fantasy 7. Most of my favorite games I wouldn't want touched, so FF7 hits the sweet spot where I would be interested to see what a remake looked like, but I wouldn't be too upset if they wrecked it.

Revive- Maverick Hunter (FPS). Felt that Armature could have pulled off a second Metroid Prime.

Reboot: Metroid. Put it back to its roots but put it as a 2.5D sidescroller and add HD Graphics and Wii U functionality on it. Oh, and make it a digital eshop title.

Reimagine: Super Mario RPG. One of the last and greatest RPGs made by Squaresoft and on the SNES. This game still is remembered today.

Remake: The Legend of Dragoon. An underrated gem on the PSX that should come back in some form.

Revive: Star Fox

Reboot: Kingdom Hearts, got too complicated for its own good.

Reimagine: Captain N, written better I believe it could've been a more fondly remembered show.

Remake: Simon's Quest, implement the more conventional Metroidvania elements & polish the less liked features.

Revive: Warhawk ps4. Just take the same exact ps3 version. But update graphics. A few new things. Not the stupid build a base shit though

Konami has so much lost IP, specially in the 16-bit era.

Remake - Cybernator
Remake - Axelay
Revive - Gradius

I miss Konami so much :'(

I wanna reboot Metal Gear. Have MGS3 take place in 95, a year before the first mammal was successfully cloned. Every subsequent game starring Big Boss is called Metal Gear, but when Solid Snake becomes the main antagonist in 2019 the games get called Metal Gear Solid.

Syphon Filter. I need more spy games in my life and it's time for Bend to get back on consoles, there's no future in Vita.

I'd also like to reboot Ghouls and Ghosts as a 3D action platformer in the style of Maximo (which probably should have used that IP anyway)
