Why are you not buying a Switch 2?

I was quite curious about it before the reveal, but after the reveal I'm just not super hyped.

My plan was to get one for games I've missed out on on Switch, because frankly they looked shit on my Sony A95K, such as Breath of the Wild (not to mention I got really far in that on WiiU) and Tears of the Kingdom. I expected a Switch 2 upgrade to make it super clean, but from what I've seen it disappoints me a little, it isn't nearly as crisp and clean as I had hoped.

Mario Kart World did not blow me away, I'm sure it will be great, but it's not a must have on day one for me. Apart from MKW I find the launch games eh, Donkey Kong did not wow me at all. Metroid should be good but we have no date. If they bring a 3D Mario this holiday then I might go for it, but there's no need for rushing it right now.

Also, money. I rather spend that money on my dog or house, or just save it. Also, I got tons and tons to play still on my Xbox Series X. Also, I don't care one bit for handheld gaming and I won't buy third party titles on it either.

Those are my reasons.

Vastly overpriced hardware and software. Lack of innovation in first party titles, they just keep re-releasing the same games over and over.
 
If it wasn't my kids birthday next week and if I had self control when it comes to these things, I would hold off until there was a must play for me. I actually did this when the Switch launched and got it for Mario after playing BotW on the WiiU.

The game I want though is DK. I like a good platformer and I know the kids will like it too.
 
It's the most anti consumer console i've seen from all the big three.

-Games are way over priced to worth.
-Having to purchase and upgrade patch for games you already own.
-Even older games are priced more just to play on this new console.
-The whole Pal world thing was shocking when they released their patent.
-They are way to sue happy.
-Their general consoles have lost their soul. They had a genral fun element to them. It being able to strech Mario's face on the N64, Gamecube music intro's or the Wii shopping music.
Now it's just static with no charecter.
-The cartridges being literally pointless bits of plastic. Basically removing the ability to shair with friends.
-User agreement saying they can deactivate at any moment because you don't own the console. You own a licence to console and games.
- Hate that C button. Dedicated Discord button that you have to pay for at 18 fps.

Sony and Microsoft have been edging little bits for the past couple of cycles to see what they can get away with.
But Nintendo has gone full stomping mode with this console. It screams pay more for less.

Normally I would say it's your money. But if this console is successful then it will shift the market into stupid pricing.






Or i can use my steam deck to emulate.....

The console price is high but fair, the game prices ate high, but not so fair, and there is not enough games to warrwant an early adoption. Mario Kart is great but I dont host couch play sections with my friends and I have no trust in Nintendo online efforts. I think the main reason is see where Nintendo is going with the Switch 2.

Switch 2 launch seems super muted.

Playing TOTK the way it is meant to be played seems almost worth the price to me, but still. it's a two year old game at this point.

I would love a new Mario Kart. New one looks awesome. But I'm not going to wait in lines or anything to get one. If I see the console on the shelf, I'll probably buy it.

But, also been really tempted by the asus ROG on one the retroid handhelds. Like the idea of having all my games in one place.
 
I only care for like 1-2 of their games and they are not out yet.

I'm gonna buy switch 2 when the next zelda open world is out, or if mp4 is gonna have a much better showing in the future.

I know this shit is all subjective but it's always interesting to me to read these perspectives.

As someone who grew up with an SNES/N64/GC, Wii/WiiU was the absolute dark ages on Nintendo for me. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a console as I was with the Wii (especially coming off the strength of the GameCube). So much so that WiiU was the first Nintendo console I never bought. In retrospect Wii U was probably better than Wii, but I ended up playing most of the good stuff on Switch anyhow.

Anywho like I said in another thread: I ancelled mine, with all the ridiculous "game carts" I'm just not interested in paying 90 dollars for plastic with a QR code.

Realizing I'm happy with my PC and Analog Pocket more and more.

Rather pay 900 dollars for some additional IT Certifications, invest in myself than another game console at this point.

I've always held Wii Sports in high regard and still play the switch versions of Tennis and Golf, but I agree that the back step technologically from the Cube to the Wii was a disappointment that was harder to enjoy at the time, and even though I own one again, now and my WiiU still gets plenty of use with NintendoLand - still connected. After finishing Mario Galaxy a week after its release on the Wii I sold off my Wii console as a bundle, feeling that my Nintendo gen was done already.

Early in the WiiU gen - long after motionplus was the new de facto Wiimote standard - I bought a few wiimotion plus games I'd missed out on.

Skyward sword was such a brilliant belated experience on WiiU compared to the tacked on motion controls of Twilight Princess that from a pure gameplay perspective it is arguably my favourite of all the open world games of that type. Everything of that genre since Skyward sword from a gameplay perspective has felt like bland button presses.

On WiiU Games like Batman Origin was great with the WiiU tablet support making it far better, and Wonderful 101 like NintendoLand was system seller good IMO. Despite me not liking BotW/Totk as Zelda games, it is hard to argue against BotW being far superior with the tablet controller on WiiU and a bit of soulless port on SW1.

The Windwaker remaster is enhanced with the WiiU tablet support and motion targeting and truly worthy of being held in high regard like the Cube version.,

MK8 and Splatoon have been degrade since the loss of WiiU tablet features, like map spawn launch on Splatoon compared to Splatoon 2 on SW1.

My library of first party WiiU games is pretty decent with possibly only Game & Wario missing - which I want just for the multiplayer motion controls Fronks game - but as you might have gathered, the best of the WiiU never really made it to the SW1 as is because to port the games the game features using the wiiu tablet controller to its full potential was either degrade or removed.

Of all the games on the system, Star fox Zero is probably my joint favourite game - with Wonderful 101 - as the controls provide something that no other game does in that genre, and the option to co-op has all the design thinking that used to go into great arcade games that struggled to port to home systems.

In a word, principles.

Been a Nintendo fan for 35 years. Yes we paid £65 for Street Fighter 2 on the Snes all those years ago, but it felt exotic, new and worthy of the high price. Now it just feels a bit hollow, repetitive, exploitative and greedy. I will get one eventually, but it will be second hand, along with every game I buy for it. I've been a cash cow for Nintendo most of my life, now I'm playing to ensure they get the least amount of revenue from me. Sounds petty I know, but can't help feeling that way. Peace.
 
Meh. If they come out with something I want to play, I'll pick it up. But so far, nothing has blown my hair back, so I just don't care.
 
Owned ALL nintendo consoles (except Gamecube) and bought them all at launch

Not this time. Maybe in 2-3 years once they release all their S2 games in the pipeline.

Mario Kart is not for me, Donkey kong looks neat, but not enough to spend $500 for.

Also do not care to play Cyberpunk, Hogwarts and all the rest when I have owned them for many years.

I game very little, I have a steam deck. Switch 2 is absolutely not attractive to play games I did years ago at lower fps and full price.
 
I wasn't going to get one because I'm not really into Nintendo much these days and ports will be inferior, but then I realized my son would love one. Sadly I dragged my feet and so preorders are all gone of course. Maybe by Christmas
 
I waited for Switch 1. There was no price drop but I was able to get V2, which has better battery life.

I'm gonna wait on this one too. For multiple reasons. The last console I early adopted was the Dreamcast. I vowed to never doing that again, even though the Dreamcast was perfectly fabulous.

This is pretty much me, though not quite. I truly want to game more than I do, and I intend to put more time into it when I retire, but for now, as much as I want the new Switch, I had to be honest with myself and admit that it would simply be an irresponsible purchase right now. Hell, I have a back log of over 2,000 games on PC alone, that's not to speak of the insane backlogs on PS and Xbox as well. Yeah, I think I'm done trying to keep up with the new console generations in general. I've got what I've got and that's it, and from here on out I'm mainly just PC, and I'll use the consoles of this gen for fighting games and group multiplayer until they melt, and that'll be the end of consoles for me I believe. I just find it easier to keep up with PC over all the other stuff.... though I do still think Nintendo makes incredible games, unlike many here who seem to dislike the company's output for some reason. I get disliking Ninty as a company; that's completely logical and appropriate, but it never ceases to amaze me when people literally say they make bad games. I mean....come on man. Their prices are retarded, they're awful to their customers, their peripherals and accessories are cheap Chinese junk, they have zero respect for game preservation being in the hands of consumers rather than in those of corporations, and their fans are annoying as shit....but the games are outstanding man. They know how to make a good game, it's tough to take someone seriously when they truly disagree with that point, but they are an absolute scumbag company, and I think this time I'm finally gonna bow out and just allow myself to assume the final form of the disgruntled gamer: yee ole PC gamer who upgrades every five or so years with hardware one generation behind to save money and just eschews the use of consoles altogether.

Couple of reasons

1) Price is wayyyyy too high for Nintendo products for me.

2) Launch is rather weak. Mario kart I'm sure will be great, a new one was long overdue but nothing else on the horizon that peaks my interest.

3) I think I may have outgrown Nintendo. I feel like every long standing series has regressed over the years for them, from Zelda, 3D Mario and Pokemon.

4) Its a secondary machine for me. If a game is multiplatform, i would never get it on a Nintendo machine.
 
I am in the spot where I got burned by the Wii U. Switch had lots of ports from Wii U no discount for prior owners. Don't want lesser versions of 3rd party games. This launch kinda sucks for me. MK World is new. DK is new and thats it. Probably shouldn't get one.
 
The primary reason is because my Steam Deck is perfect for me. When I'm not playing on PC or PS5, Steam Deck handles every game I have wanted to play at an acceptable performance level.

The secondary reason is that Nintendo has soured me on their brand. I'm a late 80s/early 90s kid who has been a huge Nintendo fan my entire life. They have lost me with the amount of anti-consumer moves they have been making the last few years. The dramatic price increase for games (and let's be real, Nintendo games are years out of date tech-wise. They can't use the "games are expensive" argument if they weren't charging $80 for switch 1 games), but also the "key card" BS and not making the Switch 2 completely backwards compatible without requiring upgrade fees for individual games. I can't support Nintendo right now, the same way I couldn't support Sony during the PS3 launch or Microsoft during the Xbox One launch. Buying a Switch 2 would be showing Nintendo and their competitors that it's ok to be extremely anti-consumer because gamers are dumb and will buy your stuff anyway.

What the fuck are you rambling about? They've been pushing the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle for damn near 7 years. They're not going to cancel the Mario Kart World bundle. It'll keep showing up every single year just like the MK8D bundle has.

Who is talking about rumors? The fact is Nintendo has repeatedly released better versions of their last two major hardware devices within a few years of their initial launches. I listed them for you, unless you're illiterate. Why would I want to pay the premium for a Switch 2 now, that has limited games, and requires a new microSD card format that will only decrease in price as time goes by?

Wouldn't some of these games just naturally look and run better because the hardware is better like on PC?

I would guess that means the discounted bundle/deal.

I'd be very surprised if we don't see a Mario Kart World bundle down the line, but without the discount.

That's what people keep telling me. One of the first things I'm going to do is boot (unpatched) BotW and Echoes of Wisdom just to see if there's any differences.

A stroll through the Korok Forest in BotW should be a good test.

That's not how it works at all lol.

Console titles get designed most of the time with a specific resolution and frame rate in mind and these are "locked". Unlocked titles and DRS exist but a lot of games run fixed. If a title has DRS or unlocked frame rate then yes they would run better on the new console but a game would need a patch to unlock the frame rate or resolution on the fixed titles. PC titles/PC ports are designed differently.

I'm sure we will see more patches just like you got with PS4 Pro/XBO X, Series/PS5, and PS5 Pro but I don't expect it to be as common as the other two platforms.
 
If I had the opportunity to get one, I very likely would. But I'm also in no rush because outside of Mario Kart World, I don't think there's anything I'm into just yet.

That will change in time, and by then I'm sure they'll be easier to obtain. Maybe even slightly cheaper.
 
Other Reasons: I can afford a Switch 2, but am not going to buy one for a long while. The reason is, I own a Switch 1 and cumulatively at least 200 physical/digital games for it that I've not played yet. Buying a Switch 2 at this time would be irresponsible of me in multiple ways. All these games and systems come out way faster than I can play this stuff.
 
Barely use the Switch lite I got over the Vita & 3DS when it comes to portable play, not much point in spending so much on a handheld that may go the same route 🤷‍♂️
