Castlevania Goes Next Gen
Konami to continue series in current setting.
September 25, 2005 - Konami is currently planning a next generation development for Castlevania series, series producer Iga (just Iga) has revealed. Continuing the current setup of the series, where portable entries depict a post-Dracula world and console entries depict a world prior to Dracula's fall, next generation console titles in the series will have the latter setting.

Iga's comments come as part of a 20th anniversary Mario feature in the latest issue of Japanese publication Nintendo Dream where the creators of some of the top classic NES franchises share their thoughts on the past, present and, occasionally, the future of their series. As part of his comments, Iga suggests that he'd like to do something to celebrate Castlevania's 20th anniversary next year -- something outside of games. We can also expect Castlevania games to continue, he states, in the form of the next generation titles suggested above and portable entries which will continue in the post Dracula setting.

Sadly, Iga's comments on next generation development end there, although he does state that he'll be putting his full effort into developing both sides of the Castlevania series in the future. Fans of Konami's vampire series apparently have much to look forward to.

Eehe Izzy got a point here :)

That PS3 list also misses so much a new Silent Hill :(

If we get it it won't be directed by Kojima as he will focus on his own new next gen game after MGS4.

He didn't direct any of the ZOEs, so that won't be a problem. :)

He's only been a producer on the ZOE's so thats not a big deal. The original was directed by Okamura (he's not the producer of MGA), and the sequel was directed by Murata who's co directing and writing MGS4. Just by that, you can tell who Kojima thinks did a better job with their directing of ZOE. :)

Well, the 3D Castlevanias have been fairly underwhelming to me so far (Lament of Innocence was a step in the right direction, but only a step), and even though I'm a whore of all things CV, I won't be too terribly excited until I actually see something. Still, it's good to know, even though it's obvious that the series would continue.

Not to mention he's said it outright. :lol I'm surprised Okamura is allowed to be working on MGA. Poor guy, he fears the Kojima.

He said that Murata is better than Okamura, or that ZOE2 is better than ZOE?

Well that's true. That's why I don't think he's going to let anyone direct a real MG on their own. If he doesn't like the idea of someone doing a bad job on a series that previously didn't exist, he's not going to like the idea of someone doing a bad job on a series that he considers his child. He should just do MGS4 this gen and let Murata remake MG and MG2 until next gen rolls around.

Hahaha, I told you so. Next up, next gen Makaimura. ;)

Not exactly shocking news, but cool nontheless

Interesting that they're going with the before/after scenario for home/portable releases

I'm still waiting for a Castlevania that lets you roam around the gothic medieval countryside travelling to different mansions, castles, towns, graveyards, haunted forests, spooky caves, shipwreck points, foul swamps, and stangely androgynous clothing stores

CV2 redux, with a huge upgrade to the depth of content. Yeah, I'd play the hell out of that.

He should just hire Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword) to develop a next-gen Castlevania after they're finished with Heavenly Sword.

We should wait until Heavenly Sword is out and playable to say that :)

That would be a far better use of 3D than what they're doing now.

Silent Hill is due for a heavy duty reinvention and reconstruction. Might as well ditch it and make a whole new horror series, something more along the lines of RE4 or something new entirely.

Heeeeellll no. The only problem with the current SH's is that they've lost their way and are trying to be more like action games when that's not what they're intended to be. They're horror games and the action should always take a backseat to the horror. Once they tone that down and go back to SH and SH2 style the series will be back on its right course.

And when do you think we'll see something about it?Next E3?

I thought Kojima wanted the God of War team to develop the next Castlevania :D

I'm sure like everyone else here that Castlevania in 3D hasn't lived up to expectations.

I'd like to see some Revo-controllered whipping personally...

got that right and i see this coming to rev,

Being very "action-like" never helped the SH series. SH1 and SH2 sold very good (speacially 2) then the action fest started with SH3 which sold good too but not like SH2 then SH4 came which had lots of action and flopped hard.

When people talk about SH they don't talk about its gameplay they talk about the atmosphere and scares. Post-SH4 interviews with the Team Silent say that they wanna do something more along the lines of SH2 and returning to the psychological stuff.

I'd like to see a first person SH game, it worked awesome with SH4.

You should play Metroid Prime.

whip control on Revolution would be an interesting idea and could possibly be an amazing experience...

whipping foward, sideways, down for attacks, and actually throwing the holy water water or cross would be awesome... of course the coolest part would be whipping up to latch onto something that will swing you to the next platform...

you could control the view using the left analog in the nunchuck attachment...

add amazing graphics, soundtrack, and boss battles.... mmm....

great news. Now we just have to get rid of Iga and put a competent game developer in charge of the PS3 CV, and we'll be set!

Let Iga stay and give him a bigger budget: that man knows what he is doing as SOTN, all the GBA Castlevania games and yes even LoI show that strength has never left the series.

The best part was when he hyped a PS3 game in a Nintendo magazine.
Where does he say it's a PS3 game?

Castlevania series has been on PS2, DS, Gameboy, and Xbox lately.

This post makes so much sense to me. There have been bumps on the road, but even Miyamoto had his offtimes. Iga is what this series needs IMHO. Along with a nice SoTN on PSP.

Capcom hear this gamer's prayers.

castelvania should at least be ported to revolution (and IMO it should be made with it in mind)... that controller could do wonders for the action elements in the gameplay. Puting castelvania in first person would also add to the immersion... it worked for metroid, so why not give it a try with castelvania? it might finaly be the answer for how to make castelvania fun in 3d. the two series have a lot in common. and there are lots of nintendo fans with fond memories of the castelvania series from the 8 and 16 bit days.

Yeah, it's hard to believe Nintendo'sBooger made such a ridiculous claim and yet his thread gets the most posts (we must be idiots).

IGA is making fucking brilliant games in 2D. As long as the 2D games are great I still want him to continue what he does best.
