IGN article on X360 BW Compatibility(it says abosolutely nothing)

It looks like Microsoft is waffling on what the definition of "backward compatibility" is.

Hey, at least it'll play somewhere between 5 to 20 of the old X-Box games. Better than nothing, I guess!

I read through it on Friday. Why did you even bother posting it? :p

it will be more then that even at launch.

Not only does it say nothing, it completely ignores the fact that MS *IS* going to pay nVidia to use their proprietary hardware calls in emulation.

Also, only 5-20 games compatible? I would be very suprised if the number was anywhere near that low, given the large amount of multiplatform titles using so much common code that the 'Generic' graphics calls are almost positive to be used.

I sure hope so, but Microsoft hasn't really been forthcoming on how this is going to work. They'd really need to get at least 80% to 90% of the games compatible before they can really use this as a selling point. Right now, it just looks like a "me-too" reaction to Nintendo and Sony after they confirmed that their next systems would be backward compatible.

Right. Since MS is licensing the Nvidia stuff, I'd expect Nvidia would have to provide support as part of the arrangement and frankly, it would shock me if the X360 isn't compatible with at least 80% of the Xbox library right at launch.

5-20?

stop microsoft... just stop...

your Xbox 1 zone sucks.

...

it seems microsoft was more concerned with PSP compatibility than backwards compatibility.

The 5-20 number was PULLED OUT OF THE ASS of whoever wrote the article, which is sad since he hasn't even FOLLOWED the BC developments, it really sounds like he's just guessing based on what he read on some forum.

You have got to be fucking joking. If you're going to take this pathetic excuse of an article as credible information atleast read it.

...let's speculate that number is somewhere between five and 20, will be backward compatible.

and if you won't read the article, atleast read the damn thread

I'll go out on a limb and say that it'll only support 2 games at launch. Halo 1 and Halo 2.

Now will someone please quote me, and then go spread my completely baseless rumor as fact, over all corners of the internet.

Why did they ignore the fact that the Gameboy Color was backwards compatible first, before the GBA(and obviously the PS2)?

In fact, a few have pushed their games to the metal, squeezing out as much performance as possible from Microsoft's system. So, it's likely that the most technically superior games will be backward compatible on Xbox 360.

Whaaaa....?

Don't they mean the opposite?

Since MS is licensing Nvidias shit, I don't see why near full backwards compatability isn't achievable. The PS2 played damn near every single PSX game - the Xbox 360 better be the same way. Cmon MS, compete!
